For as long as I can remember, the tight end position has been an Achilles’ heel for the Rams. Why is it so difficult to find someone who can block, catch and … oh yeah, stay on the field? Every year the team makes an attempt to fill the void, yet results are never good.
Enter John Carlson, an NFC West rival who seems to possess all the tools of a typical "safety net" TE. During his first three years as a Seahawk, he became a regular "Red Zone" threat and a pain in defensive coordinators’ rear ends, accumulating over 1,500 yards and 13 touchdowns. Were it not for a season ending shoulder injury in last year’s preseason, his stats may be greater.
Carlson appeared to fade off in Pete Carroll’s first year with the team, although he did catch two touchdowns during Seattle’s upset romp of the Saints in the playoffs. One has to assume that the young TE doesn’t figure into Seattle’s long-term plans, having recently signed Zach Miller to a lucrative five-year deal. He may also be a miscast in Carroll’s enigmatic offensive, when you figure that Miller totaled only 233 yards and no touchdowns in all of 2011.
If Lance Kendricks is the future of the Rams TE’s, he needs some guidance to get there. And if Bajema and "UhOh" are indeed goners, the Rams need a proven blocker to line up off tackle.

A Great post to go with the new screen name! Rec'd!!!
Joe Mazzi is/was RAMphetamine just a day ago. Another awesome post Mr. Mazzi!
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
Thank you, sir!
Joe Mazzi - February 9, 2012 via mobile
Are you related to Joe Mama
dbcouver - February 9, 2012
probably never heard that one before
dbcouver - February 9, 2012
I've been to high school too my friend Ha!
Joe Mazzi - February 10, 2012 via mobile
I'd actually really like this
he seems extremely reliable, and I never knew how tall he was, at 6’5". I remember drafting him in my FF league 3 years ago, and he’s been a bit of a disappointment since.
I wonder, however, if teams are going to jump all over him for the aforementioned size. It’s no secret that Gronk and Graham have made the position extremely desirable, and teams that are in need of a TE could get this one for relatively cheap…
I like the thought, though
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
How about RAMdrug's new screen name? It even SOUNDS like a sports writer!
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
oh no!
did I just compliment Ramphet?!?!
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
It's the end of the world as we know it..
Joe Mazzi - February 9, 2012 via mobile
I'm going to stand in a doorway
huddle under a desk, or cover myself in pillows in a bathtub….
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
Great job! Glad they finally got the name change for you done
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
lol A deviousplan to garner your praise, eh?
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
Good stuff, by the way 'Joe' if that is your real name!
Seriously though, I’d really like this signing. Whats the chance that it’s realistic for the Rams?
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
I'd like it if they signed him. Isn't Celek a FA too? He'd be a great signing too if he is?
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
Truly appreciate it.
Seems possible, right? I think he could be Dustin Keller in Scotty’s offense.
Joe Mazzi - February 9, 2012 via mobile
Schotty's*
Joe Mazzi - February 9, 2012 via mobile
I, of all people, saw that
but wasn’t going to say anything………….actually I was, and it was something along the lines of wishing that Scotty, instead of Schotty, was our OC
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
lol
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
Pardon me for neglecting to do so earlier
But I’m rec’in this ish! Hopefully with a new name comes a new hockey team
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
Carlson would be great pick up.
However this poll is gonna end up biased. You could write an article on the great tight end prospects available late in the draft, put the same poll and get the opposite result pretty easy.
Scato - February 9, 2012
Very true and thanks.
I don’t see they Rams drafting a TE to be honest, though
Joe Mazzi - February 9, 2012 via mobile
HA! It looks like Carlson is about to throw the football at the "Delocated" idiot in the ad to the right!
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
I like the fact that
1) He seems to be standing on his own 2 legs and not laying on a stretcher
2) His hand appears to not be rejecting the ball
ramdude - February 9, 2012
Too funny! Rec'd
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
Or you can copy and paste into a Latin translator like a Mo Fo!

Douglas M - February 9, 2012
***ew** lol
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
just the guru of truth.....think i spelled everything right this time
why would he be a good pickup
and why would he want to play here
jswirb - February 9, 2012
What does that mean?
you are the guru of truth? You can make up names for yourself? I’m Shaquille O’Neal
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
I'm Robert Oppenheimer... BOOM!
"The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears it is true." R.O.
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
I'm not sure what's going on
but between your sig, your backwards spelling, and whatever you just said, I am convinced that you’ve been drinking moonshine
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
lol I spelled out jswirbs comment backwards to see if we'd like him
If you can be Shaq, I can be R.O..
The sig line is just something I found funny.
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
and what might it mean?
I’d search for it, but I’m involved in a serious team game of solitaire
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
lol Roughly translated, it says:
“If you can read this sign, you can get a good job in the fast-paced, high-paying world of Latin!”

Quoting the swirby man? WOW! lol
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
Fraid so
ramdude - February 9, 2012
I say
Give kendricks one more season
Ramzman18 - February 9, 2012 via mobile
I agree, but Oh-Ho and Bajema could be replaced
Douglas M - February 9, 2012
uhoh should stay but bajema should go
I actually don’t understand the rationale of keeping baj over fells. Maybe i have selective memory, but i rem fells making some plays at least moreso than baj back in 2010. i.e the one handed grab touchdown. We coulda used some sure hands this year for sure.
Kendricks was a number 2 pick and you gotta give him a chance to shine. Not everyone is instant success.
fletcherisland - February 9, 2012
agreed
Ramzman18 - February 9, 2012 via mobile
Without a doubt
I’m not giving up on the TE committee approach though. It works with the right personnel. Please note, I’m not “lobbying” for Carlson.
Joe Mazzi - February 9, 2012 via mobile
Let Peelle & Bajema walk, ignore Finely & Carlson...
pick up Fred Davis for cheaper because your worried about his “off field issues”. His whole contract could be performance based.
Plus Shiancoe & Scaife are our there for the picking too.
Boofer - February 9, 2012
Franchise for Davis
With his character issues and the TE franchise being only 5.5 mil or so Fred Davis is pretty much a given as a franchise tag for Washington.
Scato - February 10, 2012
Lal just beat Bos
In one of the better games iv seen this year. The nba has had some bad baskitball this season
Ramzman18 - February 9, 2012 via mobile
I went to the computer lab as SOON as I got out of class and caught OT.
PAUUUUUU! I’m gonna miss him so much if he’s indeed traded :(
douchiedude - February 10, 2012
i'd give kendricks one more pre season and thats it -----if he plays well in preseason ok
2 games thats it in regular season…………and cut him if he doesn’t perform
jswirb - February 9, 2012
You cant evaluate teams and players in the preseason
Haven’t you learned anything from last year.
RAMSALLTHEWAY - February 9, 2012 via mobile
if thats the case
he should make it from last preseason alone. dude looked incredibly promising in the preseason. then the season lights turned on and he forgot how to catch
fletcherisland - February 9, 2012
btw he catches that ball vs the eagles and that game is entirely different...
so much hope to start the season… ugh
fletcherisland - February 9, 2012
the problem is
until we put out a respectable team and show a comittment to win
free agents will not want to play here
“thats the fact jack”
jswirb - February 9, 2012
You don't think overhauling our entire coaching staff
GM included, shows that that’s our intention? Players will come for coaches and money. Suck it!
DCRamFan - February 9, 2012
the rams don't pay money---other than to bradford----DC you know that
MSW anyone
jswirb - February 9, 2012
MSW got a one year deal,js
Joe Mazzi - February 10, 2012 via mobile
Plenty of free agents wanted to play for Spags
We just didn’t choose many good ones.
With this new coaching staff, we should have even fewer problems. We have a few assets to build on.
ramdude - February 9, 2012
We're not going to win the 2013 Super Bowl
Heared it here fust!

Captain Obvious Strikes Again!
RAMpage28 - February 9, 2012
Strikes FIRST! My brutha
ramdude - February 9, 2012
CORRECTED! BLAM!
RAMpage28 - February 9, 2012
It'd be nice BUT:
I think we all get a little hopeful around here. If we had our way Kendricks would turn out to be a stud, and we’d also be able to sign Carlson or Celek. All three of the above is better than Klopfenstein. Our receivers would be Lloyd, VJax, Amendola, DX (healthy), Amendola, and Salas. The reality is, I don’t see the Rams picking up a name brand free agent tight end. I think a more realistic scenario involves Kendricks developing into a reliable tight end combined with Amendola in the slot to both serve as safety nets in Schottenheimer’s Air Coryell offense. We don’t need to stud tight ends like we see in New England. Just a deep threat, a nice slot receiver, and a reliable tight end.

I wish we'd pick up Vjax......
If only to rub it in swirb’s face forever and get him to stop using that ridiculous “guru of truth title”.
RamFan284 - February 9, 2012
The appropriate title is "Nastradouche"
sergey606 - February 9, 2012 via mobile
we won't get jackson......if we do you can rub it in my face
but as usual the guru will be right on
at least devaney is not here to pick up a practice squad receiver fom stanford
because he came cheap
that alone ins a step in the right direction…….Guru 1:1
jswirb - February 9, 2012
Nobody calls themselves a guru!
You’re either the craziest person alive or the best troll and by god I can’t tell which it is. You do realize NONE of the same people are in charge right? Who knows what Fisher is gonna do. But I bet if they sign anybody good you’ll say something like “Oh, they finally listened to me, all hail my genius.” But oh guru of truth, do you remember in the begining of last season when you said there “there’s a 90% chance Lloyd will not be traded to the rams or should i say 100% chance”. Not very guruish if I do say so. And you wanted T.O, who incidently is only playing part time in the arena league now, for TWO years! C’mon man, if your not gonna stop the crazy, at least quit the guru crap.
RamFan284 - February 10, 2012
Everyone knows you're a fucking nut man
No one honestly pays attention to what you say, cause everyone just be negative all the time, pop out randomly and rant using pure nonsense and lack of grammar and after all that you can say “told ya so!” after some news breaks.
sergey606 - February 10, 2012
i think that was a movie serg starring devaney
jswirb - February 9, 2012
called practically the whole 2011 season debacle
we came off an easy 2010 sched and were thought highly of ….we did not sign quality free agents to fill our needs —most definitely a receiver should have been thee priority
instead we hired a bunch of street players to 1 year contracts
the results spoke for themselves
jswirb - February 9, 2012
continuity and playing together...and listening to your scouts
is what wins in the nfl……..
