2012 NFL Draft: Jim Haslett Says Skins Open to Trade, Have Talked to Fisher

Gotta love SB Nation. From Hogs Haven, the SBN community for Redskins fans, comes this report from one of their community members (I mention his status only because I'm hesitant to vouch for any story that doesn't come from a front page author). And yes, it is important.

The author, Rodskins, notes that he talked with Jim Haslett, the former Rams DC and interim head coach who is currently Mike Shanahan's defensive coordinator. During the talks, he disclosed some awfully detailed information that's of immediate interest to Rams fans.

On the free agent front, he said that the Skins weren't interested in Matt Flynn, but the wheels are turning to make the initial efforts toward Peyton.

Of more import, he said the Redskins have already contacted Jeff Fisher to discuss the second overall pick. He didn't provide any details of the talks, other than to note that the front office only has interest in Andrew Luck and RGIII at this point, so the likelihood of trading up is, well, more than 0%.

Take it for what it's worth, but if true, things are setting up well for the Rams to make out well in trading the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Real question for the comments

Why in the world would Haslett disclose any details of his front office’s operations?

true dat

The Shan clan are well known for their tight lippedness

If "lippedness" is a word.
it's not

I’m trying a new verbal diet. 30 days of swirb

….the plan is to speak pig latin after a month

So that's what they call incoherent rambling.
the pamphlet told me there'd be negative forces

and that I just needs to keeps it rizzle….

…Snoop obviously endorses this product

Haters gonna hate.

HULK HOGAN!

exactly

and with the HC and OC both Shanahans, certainly Haslett knows how they roll…on the scale of lippednessiousness, they’re at the top

i'm interested to know your opinion

if the Skins were to land Peyton, what does Shanny Jr. do?

suck it up and not be Shanny Jr. until Peyton retires

if he’s not willing to, Peyton wouldn’t sign here

i suppose he could work with all 4 of their RB's

or test the o-line for ganja

Makes me wonder if Haslett knew he was talking to a guy that would post his comments?
shouldn't matter

you have to act like anyone could. That’s common sense in 2012. He knows as much.

A bit sad, but true...
this

If anything its more likely every team has at least explored an avenue with regards to a potential trade.

The targeting of Luck and RGIII has to be entirely speculatory…

This may also be the first of more public bluffing and double bluffing so that people panic into making moves, letting their real target fall to them?

Gal Durnit, Jim!

This announcement will just wreck John Beck's confidence!

Stupid Haslett.

at the young age of 30

they can’t afford that

Now they got to put Grossman back in.

Son of a bitch.

They are old drinking buddies...and you know how Haslett likes to hit the sauce and start saying things he shouldnt!

Throw a couple hookers in the deal and next thing you know he’ll start busting out pics of Shannahan in drag! :)

Dang it! I so want to believe this story! :(
Hell, if we do trade, that just helped the Rams.

Price of that pick is going up, since now a team has basically come out and said they want it. Your move, Browns’ DC, OC or Equipment Manager – whoever will leak some info.

Or Browns' Janitor.
schurmer is a spags disciple

No equipment managers in Cleveland bro

fwiw

The contributing author is one of our regulars (I wouldn’t have front paged it otherwise). I got the feeling the Skins fan caught Haslett with his Guard down. The coaching staff was just on a 10-day vacation and this was an event that was all parents and their kids.

yay off-season.

thanks for stopping by, Kevin

Just trying to keep things in perspective

Just thinking the same thing. It's become a given that everything someone says it fair game for repeating/posting.

Haslett just let his guard down a bit. I really don’t think he unveiled anything too dramatic. His thoughts on the 2012 QB prospects was interesting though? I’d read the ’Skins were interested in Tannehill, but I guess not?

interesting

Hope you guys get RGIII, always liked the Skins

Thanks for popping by too

Chess playing at it's finest.
there's more to the story...

I just read the post on Hogs Haven, and the guy who posted it met Haslett at his daughters Volleyball tournament in Hampton VA, at a breakfast buffet nonetheless. I’m not saying that it’s got to be 100% live-or-die by it truth, but why would he fabricate this stuff to a guy who was just a fan?

clearly he doesn’t make these types of decisions, but I’ll buy it for now

If the trade happends

Kali is deff out of the picture

I think Kalil is the fallback option if we don't trade.

Multiple high picks are better than Kalil(though I’m pulling for him).

What kind of OL would they have for trade?

Not familiar with their guys, but if they tossed us some picks and players, could we make up for Kalil with one of their guys? Or we ‘settle’ for Rieff, and some more guys, which is not bad IMO. I think RR looks just about as good a prospect as Kalil.

I asked UkRedskin at MTD

who they would be willing to part with instead of the 2013 first round pick. He named 2 players going to FA and Chris Cooley but thought he’d stay. Definitely won’t be giving up Coffield. Sounds like picks only and the least amount possible.

If true....

it puts pressure on the Browns if they want RG3. Instead of sitting back and hoping he falls to them, they might have to make a move. There is a reason they snatched up all of those picks last year, could be they were stock piling picks to move up if someone really interested them this draft and the Colt Mccoy experiment didnt work.

Ah yes....the actual intended affect

It’s nice to see some strategy being used other than just sitting on our hands and hoping the draft just falls our way.

Yes but

At least after we sat on our hands it felt like someone else was doing our draft

Bless those Skins fans

The most tolerable of the NFC East

'Skins fans....gotta love'em.

The trial balloons and

PR stunts that will develop from postering for our 2nd pick will be off the charts leading up to the draft. Can we please put to rest anymore nonsense that there will be no market for RG3 which was implied and discussed in another posting?

Jim Haslett...the Joe Biden of the NFL
Nothing too earth shattering...

however, it’s nice to hear. What kind of potential package are we looking at here? i know this might be a little outlandish, but 1, 2, 4 this year and a 1, 3 next year? That would be a glorious deal, but it’s probably gonna be something closer to 1, 2 this year 1, 4 next year. Bare minimum is 2 1st though, as well as some combo of a 2nd plus another pick i would have to guess.

keep in mind im no draft guru and looked at no trade charts prior to posting that absurd package…

I think your "outlandish" proposal is actually close to reality

The guys at HogsHaven think I’m nuts, but I think the max you guys can get is the 1,2,3 picks this year AND next. Not sure it’ll climb that high, but it could. This would be a trade that would redefine the market for future drafts.

And for the record, I’m not in favor of it :)

We still need a deal-making GM to pull the trigger on a trade
Most important line in the whole post:

“With the exception of Luck and RG111, they have been very disappointed by the QB’s in this year’s draft class. "

This has got to be the strongest, best news for the Rams wrt a trade. After these top 2 guys, it is a major drop down to the next tier.

And since I am awesome at fantasy football, I know that means you have to take that last guy when you have the opportunity or you’ll be screwed.
