Super Bowl? What Super Bowl? With the big game in Indianapolis this year, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has picked up as much, if not more, media play than Tom Brady and Eli Manning, the two quarterbacks actually vying for the title this weekend. A report today says that the Washington Redskins and Manning have a mutual interest.
Mutual interest rumors this time of year are always a little dubious. Washington, according to Adam Schefter, would likely be a suitor for Manning, thinking he's the quickest path for getting that franchise and head coach Mike Shanahan back to respectability.
Of course, Washington won't be the only team competing for his services. Miami could consider him. Arizona and Seattle are also interested in bringing him over to the NFC West.
And what does this have to do with the St. Louis Rams? Well, movement in the quarterback market could impact their ability to trade down from the second spot, where a team would draft Robert Griffin III.
Washington might be less inclined to swap picks if they sign Manning. Miami is expected to pursue Matt Flynn of the Packers. That leaves Cleveland, Arizona and Seattle as the most quarterback needy teams. NFC West teams will be less likely to trade up with their division rivals. If Cleveland has no interest in trading up, Washington gets Manning and Miami gets Flynn, the Rams may be S.O.L. looking for a trade partner. Seattle or Arizona could then make a deal with Minnesota or Cleveland for RG3.

I'm sorry, but we can't lose
No matter what happens, we have this won. We could trade down somehow, we could take KALIL, or we can pick RG3 and raffle him off. We have to work real hard to mess this up
King Sam Rules! - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Agreed
It’s a win win win. I’m a big Kalil fan but the extra picks would be great for this organization.
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Did you just give the "we have won this thing" jinx to our draft? Quick! Find Braunwitch! Maybe he can fix it!
Douglas M - February 5, 2012
I thought Brawnwitch was a 'she'
Apologies if I was wrong.
dbcouver - February 5, 2012
I have wanted Kalil for awhile
While I hate USC….I really like this kid. This one pick could almost fix our entire line. Kalil at LT, Saffold at RT, Dahl at RG, and…..well….umm….a couple of guys who currently aren’t with the Rams at LG and C lol. So really this pick gets 3 of 5 lineman squared away lol
Rcoon1307 - February 5, 2012 via mobile
On a side note....KSR, Doug...
Who do you think will be the GM for the 2012 Stl Rams? I’m hoping for Keim but I haven’t read anything as of late.
Rcoon1307 - February 5, 2012 via mobile
I have no clue, I just hope it isn't the guy known for drafting Vick
King Sam Rules! - February 5, 2012 via mobile
I mean the guy who was with the Falcons when they drafted Vick
I don’t want that guy
King Sam Rules! - February 5, 2012 via mobile
I think Fisher really wants Lake Dawson, but his situation may have changed with the Titans since his promotion
Keim is a nice, though unspectacular choice. I would steer clear of anyone from the Falcons. Billy Devaney was a product of that system, as well as half our current scouting department. We need new blood at GM. What happened to the Michael Lombardi rumors that he was interested in being a GM?
Douglas M - February 5, 2012
We can still trade down, with Kalil.
RG3 is not the only player teams want to trade down to get.
Personally,
I’d love to draft Kalil,
even though we need Blackmon.
look closer - February 5, 2012
this is what i was talking about
peyton to skins.. flynn to miami… cleveland sits on rg3
Ram_Redemption - February 5, 2012
Unless Minnesota
wants RGlll to replace Ponder. Ponder isn’t signed to a Bradfordian contract and could be moved or demoted to 2nd string. I’m interested in watching how the Vikings are trending after the Combine and the Pro-Day workouts. If they show a big interest in RGlll, that could force Cleveland to make a move.
Guitpik - February 5, 2012
go to stampede blue
they ae saying miami’s owner is in love with manning.. who ever misses on manning will take flynn and the other will draft rg3. kalil at 2
Ram_Redemption - February 5, 2012
is Peyton medically cleared to play?
he may need to retire
DevsLaRams - February 5, 2012
yes he is cleared
Ram_Redemption - February 5, 2012
What if Manning went to Cleveland?
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
than miami take flynn and washington takes rg3
Ram_Redemption - February 5, 2012
You think RGIII falls to 6 with all the QB needy teams?
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
if the other qb hungry teams get them in FA
Ram_Redemption - February 5, 2012
There are less franchise QBs available than teams that need one.
Someone will come a callin
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
I heard on 101.1 ESPN that Manning is willing to sign an incentive based contract.
So teams won’t have to worry as much($wise) if he is injured.
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Manning is a great QB, no doubt a future HoF memeber, but how can a franchise devote soooo much money to a guy that could be re-injured with a single sack?
I honestly hope he retires and doesn’t start down the road of a star player trying to hold on too long. He has a boatload of money, so why not walk off into the sunset, instead of wheeled off in a wheelchair if he damages his neck again? I feel the same way about Bartell. Say what you want, but broken or damaged bones in the neck are nothing to take lightly
Douglas M - February 5, 2012
u give him a playing time based contract
if he makes it through the season, u pay him about 14 million. if he gets hurt. u get ur money back and will probably be in line for barkly or jones next year (if jones can improve his stock)
Ram_Redemption - February 5, 2012
I agree but he's going to play.
With all that is in place, still think we will still get a good deal for the 2nd spot.
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
from who tho lol
three teams behind us need one and all three have options
Ram_Redemption - February 5, 2012
Things can change in a second in the NFL.
Teams are drooling over RG3. We for weeks have been talking about Cleveland, I think it’s going to be someone we haven’t been talking about. Who that is remains to be seen.
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
Dallas?
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Houston possibly??
I don’t think they can believe Schaub can stay healthy & they need someone to groom.
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
they have yates
and dallas has said they are sticking with romo
Ram_Redemption - February 5, 2012
After what we saw with Yates, I think they'll look in another direction
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
Jets are still a big player in the Manning sweepstakes.
If something happens before the draft with Manning & things change.
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
Exactly
not enough QBs to go around for all the teams in need. I think the teams farther back in the draft will look in FA for a QB so it won’t cost all their draft picks to get their guy. Teams at the top like Cleveland could give up a couple 1st and a 2nd to get their guy for the future.
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
yates was really good for a rookie
but we’ll c
Ram_Redemption - February 5, 2012
Don't teams "say" things all the time that aren't true?
We don’t know who’s is the bidding.
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Still decent talent at 14(Decastro?)
and we would get a sh!t load of picks for trading so far back.
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
I really think Peyton should go to Denver
Good O-line, talented young recievers, good young defense. Thats a team on the rise, that isn’t about to fall apart due to age
King Sam Rules! - February 5, 2012 via mobile
I just really hope he doesn't come to the NFC West
He will make any of the other 3 teams so much better. Peyton to Fitzgerald? Peyton to Sidney Rice? Peyton with the 49ers defense? Please God no.
mcihaelT - February 5, 2012
I truly think Peyton goes to Washington....
Dan Snyder has ALWAYS given ridiculous contracts to players. And I have to believe that he will give Manning a blank check. Other possibility is Miami. I don’t think there is anyway he goes to Cleveland and the Cardinals just signed Kolb to a ridiculous contract. But either way I want Kalil.
Rcoon1307 - February 5, 2012 via mobile
I doubt Peyton would sign with Snyder
dbcouver - February 5, 2012
Or play for Shanahan.
Do you think those personnalities would clash??
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
Agreed, exept i want Blackmon either way..
RG31 - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Even if we signed Lloyd and V Jackson?
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
We would be stacked at wr for awhile?Lol!
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
I just wonder what happens to Danny in this situation?
Signed? Released?
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
U would have to keep him around wouln't u think.
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
Now that would be a scary WR threat.
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
*scary deep
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
We need youth at the wr position that can develope into the 1
I’m honestly tired of trying to solve the wr position in FA, hasn’t worjed out for us lately. Rather have a wr that can build chemistry with san and not be gone in a couple of years. Opinions vary though..
RG31 - February 5, 2012 via mobile
I agree!
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
I get the point about chemistry but
with Lloyd and Jax we could wait for Woods until next year and have “that guy” for the future while still being good this year. Top LT this year, top WR next year.
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
If we did get Kalil
Stills and Woods woukd be 1a and 1b for me next year, have to watch more of woods though.
RG31 - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Just asking??
How much would Kroenke be willing to spend at the wr spot?
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
Read an interesting SB fun fact:
For the rest of Sarah’s fun facts, go here.
Douglas M - February 5, 2012
I believe we still have to address the rb spot.
Besides the #2 back, someone for the future a change of pace back. James in the 2nd or possible 3rd???
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
I'd take James in the 3rd or 4th.
I want a OLB or DT in the 2nd.
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Sounds good but who?
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
Zach Brown or some other first round talent should drop
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
maybe Brockers
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
He might be there? Lueking?
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
Lueking?
haven’t heard of him. King of the Lou? Sounds good. lol
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Luechly of BC, I miss spelled it.
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
just joking
I’d take him there as well. I just think OLB & DT trump RB because they can be had later and still be good.
jmo53 - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Can I just say it, and I apologize if someone already did....
‘no shit!’
….who didn’t see this coming. It’s also worth nothing that Schefter and Shanny are good buddies. Wrote a book together…
DCRamFan - February 5, 2012
That's the file I opened when looking for some place to put this
dbcouver - February 5, 2012
haha!
havent had a chance to read all the comments on this. Whatcha thinkin?
I think the Skins wreak of desperation, and Shanny will do anything to right the ship. This comes as no surprise, and I still think the Browns want RG3, and they’ll be willing to trade to get him.
DCRamFan - February 5, 2012
PLUS
Washington is where careers go to die, so this seems like a good fit….
DCRamFan - February 5, 2012
I don't think they would get along. Two dominiant personnalities??
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
You could be right there
somethings gotta give though…………whether it’s Shanny’s approach to the play calling, which would be awkward considering his shit-for-brains son has been doing it, or Peyton’s wallet.
I’m guessin Peyton still wants to ‘win,’ or be on a team that stands a chance of doing something deep in the playoffs. The Skins definitely aren’t that team, but they’ll use the ‘we were only a few games away from winning this division’ BS to lure him in.
I live in DC, so if he wants to come here GREAT! I’d love to see him. I’d also like to see him walk/jog/run for the rest of his life, so I hope they’d plan on protecting him if they did sign him
DCRamFan - February 5, 2012
That's a tough situation.
I’d like to see Peyton play too,but that is a big risk.
T.Hill - February 5, 2012
If anyone else is watching the skills competition on ESPN 2
What is up with that thing on Coples arm?!?!?
King Sam Rules! - February 5, 2012 via mobile
the brand?
DCRamFan - February 5, 2012
Yeah, I just got done googling it up
Never seen that before, scared the shit outta me
King Sam Rules! - February 5, 2012 via mobile
i doubt it hurts
and if he even winced, he’s a pussy and I hope he goes undrafted…
….and we pick him up
DCRamFan - February 5, 2012
All I know is that it's some symbol of his fraternity
And that is the first fraternity specifically for African American men. First thing I thought when I saw that was “it makes him look like a slave”
King Sam Rules! - February 5, 2012 via mobile
I know I've seen several guys
brand the letter of the greek alphabet into their arm. I prefer the henna tattoo
DCRamFan - February 5, 2012
if it looks like a horse shoe then its omega psi phi
diehardram87 - February 5, 2012
That's what it looks like
King Sam Rules! - February 5, 2012 via mobile
ah shit
dbcouver - February 5, 2012
I can't see Peyton going to a team thats not a player away...
I feel like that in itself eliminates a lot of teams including the Redskins. He’s getting older. He wants to leave with a title, therefore i can’t see him going to the skins.
If u watched the interview with Archie today and Bob Costas, i can’t see him going to the Jets either. Where does that leave him? 49ers? nah, they seem content with Alex Smith and Harbaugh appears loyal to his QB… Cardinals? after investing all that money in Kolb? can’t see it… Jets? see above…Skins? see above. Browns? not close to a title… Dolphins? interesting choice. They don’t seem like a horrible fit and started off the season terrible before getting on somewhat of a roll this season. Imagine peyton wearing anything but colt blue… that’s gonna be very strange.
fletcherisland - February 5, 2012
The Rams Could Try A Strategy Of Moving Out Of The First Round
Giving a team an additional 1st round pick. The team that moves up to The Rams 2nd overall position will also get to keep their 1st round selection.
This could bring about selections in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th in addition to young talent from a willing trade partner.; a number one player from 2013 is an additional option as well.
The Chicago Bears have two third round picks. Chicago’s two 3rd round picks and their fourth in addition to DT Amobi Okoye ( Not Sure If He Is A FA) and their first rounder for 2013, is an option. A lot of needs could be addressed with this type of compensation.
