Dan Kadar, the head honcho over at Mocking the Draft, has been updating the site position rankings. We'll have position-by-position coverage here as well, but it's worth discussing the updated WR rankings tonight.
The Rams have a deep stable of WRs (especially if they can re-sign Brandon Lloyd), but are sorely lacking a top of the roster WR to help provide a consistent threat for Sam Bradford, especially in 3rd down and red zone situations. There are some enticing options in free agency, but as always, the draft affords teams the chance to re-stock the roster with young, promising talents.
The top 5, Justin Blackmon, Michael Floyd, Kendall Wright, Alshon Jeffrey and Mohamed Sanu in that order, shouldn't be all that surprising. Keep an eye out for Alshon as WRs measure on Friday and work out on Sunday. His frame is going to be closely scrutinized.
Joe Adams, #9 on the list, could be the next speedster taken after Kendall Wright come April, so his 40-yard time is going to be key. And just after Adams at #10 is Brian Quick, a massive WR who had an incredibly successful career at Appalachian St. He didn't start playing football until his senior year in HS, so he's a bit raw - his measurables are going to be key for teams looking for a possession frame.
Speaking of, Dwight Jones at #6 is going to get a lot of scrutiny. He's not the fastest or most athletic wideout, but he uses his size well and attacks the ball in the air.
Two late guys to watch are #18 Marvin Jones who impressed at the Senior Bowl and #20 Eric Page who filled up box scores at Toledo.

because everyone knows it’s not special. Unless he breaks into the 4.4 range or down to the 4.6’s, it’s negligible. The real key is his measurables. Height, weight, wingspan

really?
as far as i’m concerned he’s a lock. i dont see him completely failing the combine, as long as he puts up decent numbers he’ll be first WR, now keep in mind that i am a huge blackmon supporter/bandwagoner but after watching tape from alshon’s entire career i feel like he’s the better WR, but no one knows.

I don’t think the combine will completely drop him, his on the field abilities should overshadow it. If he does drop that’s better for us because we could trade down with Washington or Miami and he could still be there. I agree with you though, he should be the first off the board no matter what..

Im a bit bias
I think wr need a bonafide wr threat besides Lloyd (if he stays) and outside of Blackmon there’s major concerns about the other wrs. I think I’d like to see saffolds develop at the LT position and this league has proved you don’t need an elite LT to win. While in this system it doesn’t work without good wrs. At 22 I would like for us to go with Adams from OSU and put him at RT.
I think Lloyd could be the deep threat this team needs and blackmon could be the guy that can turn a 3 yard slant into a first down or more. Lloyd can not do this..

With the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams are in a great trading position. They could keep Sam Bradford and trade the pick to a team that wants Robert Griffin III for multiple draft picks; or they could take Griffin and trade Bradford for draft choices. One way or another, the Rams have the potential to greatly improve their football team.

In thinking through this hypothetical choice, one area that has to be considered is the cost difference. Bradford has four years left on his contact which will total $48 million. Griffin will sign a four-year contract for approximately $22 million. By taking Griffin and trading Bradford, the Rams would save almost $26 million. This money could be used to bolster other areas of the team.
Then there’s the most important question: Who is the better player? I liked both of these quarterbacks in college, even though they had different styles. I believe both can be very successful in the NFL, but I would rate Bradford the better QB off his college tape. He displayed superior accuracy than Griffin does at this stage, and he threw to more options in the passing game. In fact, in the previous 10 years before Bradford was drafted, the only two college quarterbacks I had rated higher were Eli Manning and Carson Palmer. Bradford, who struggled this past season, had a very good rookie year in 2010. I believe this year’s drop off was caused by his injuries and surroundings factors that buried the Rams. I still would rate him ahead of Griffin.
But who would bring the most in a trade? I believe it would be Bradford, even with his higher salary. He already has two seasons in a pro-style offense in the NFL and would be ready to start and win right now. Also, some people will look at it the way I did, going back to their college evaluations and seeing Bradford rated higher.

If the Rams choose to draft Griffin and trade Bradford, they might receive two first-round draft choices plus another pick or player — and save $26 million in the process. If they keep Bradford and trade the second pick, it is possible they could still get the same draft deal. There is also the possibility that the market could disappear if Matt Flynn and Peyton Manning sign with teams in the top 10.
If you believe in Griffin’s ability to become at least as good a QB as Bradford, you trade Bradford. However, if I was making the decision, I’d stick with Bradford. I would go with the more known quantity, who already has two years experience and Pro Bowl potential.

I think that was Charlie Cassel's (sp) article at NFL.com?
He should have read Mike D’s article before he wrote this. Mike D pointed out that the money that could be saved by trading Bradford really doesn’t exist. In fact, he showed that it would cost the Rams a ton of $$$.
What I find cool though, is that a writer for NFL.com is pondering what we at TST considered months before he did. The big difference is that we got it right, and Cassel got it wrong.

I know their owner is a total nut job, but they can’t go with A.J. Green alone out there. Simpson is going away for a while, either to jail or a Goodell vacation. I wouldn’t be shocked if they wanted to make a move for Blackmon?

If they were willing to either move to the 4 or the 6 (depending on where the original trade would land us), we could try and pick up the 17 and 21 (i think those are their picks, i could be wrong). Because even if we miss out on a star OT this year, what we need are a lot of quality guys (plus I’m not sold on the fact that our OL is as bad as they played this past year. New coaching staff might be able to salvage it.). If that would give us 17, 21, and 22 we’d be in the catbird seat to pick up some serious talent.

You lost me at the beginning of the post...
…when you said we have a deep stable of recievers. If everyone was healthy we would have had Mark Clayton, Danny Amendola, Danario Alexander, Greg Salas, Brandon Gibson and Austin Pettis. The injuries forced us to go after Brandon Lloyd. I guarantee next year we wont have Clayton, Pettis, Gibson and we might lose Lloyd. We are far from being deep at this position and desperately ned to bring in a solid free agent as well as draft someone in the first four rounds.

I’d love to have that kind of speed at a linebacker position. Would help 1. Covering these stud TE’s that the top teams have 2. Some flexibility in personnel packages. Easier to avoid going to a nickel or dime package in certain situations.
