Signing free agent wide receiver Steve Johnson would indeed make for a happy new year in St. Louis.
The St. Louis Rams should have several options at their disposal to upgrade the wide receiver position. One name likely to be on the free agent market is Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson, who will not get the franchise tag from the Bills according to the latest report from the Associate Press.

Johnson is likely to be the second or third-place prize in free agency, after Vincent Jackson and Dwayne Bowe, depending on what the Chiefs do with their receiver. Signing him will be an expensive proposition, with the deal being molded on what a team ends up giving Jackson, who once wanted a $50 million deal.
Johnson and the Bills are far apart in contract talks according to that same report. Johnson is prone to the occasional big gaffe, and ill-advised celebration, but he would give the Rams a big threat to move around the field.
I still think the best way forward is using the franchise tag on Brandon Lloyd, then trying to work out a long-term deal to shave off some of the $9.4 million cap hit the tag would cost. If they do not go that direction, Johnson is a name they would at least have to consider.

Yes. I would contact stevie at 12 on the dot the day of freeagency!
Younger and better than lloyd IMO (he had no help at wr either but he still balls out, and on revis of all ppl). Its also been reported that we won’t be franchise tagging anyone via jason la can fora

I would love Stevie
but we shouldn’t franchise Lloyd b/c he isn’t worth 9.4 mil and if I was him I would just call the teams bluff and make the Rams pay me that. We need younger players and we shouldn’t overpay 31 year old WRs.

I completely disagree with going after Johnson
Not to mention all the dumb stuff he does on the field, i think he is the last thing sam bradford needs. Johnson is not dependable enough for a young quarterback, and is not the type of player you want as your franchise wideout for the next 5 years

All the dumb stuff?!
He wrote on his shirt for a celebration like twice. Ooooooh
sergey606 - February 20, 2012 via mobile
That shit shouldn't even be illegal
let em have fun, it’s a game!
Brick Top - February 20, 2012
He's not using the football as a prop
in fact, he’s not using anything as a prop, it’s just written under his jersey.
Now if it said “Heil Hitler” or some shit, then it’s a different story.
sergey606 - February 20, 2012
that's not all, plus he's going to be to expensive
quartermidget - February 20, 2012
Yes please! He's the youngest of the bunch too

Dropsies
Steamie Johnson drops the ball quite a bit too. I remember that game last year where he choked twice and dropped 2 gimmes. 5 dropped passes in one day? No thanks:

So if we passed on Steamie Johnson would he drop it?
81 Witness - February 20, 2012
He really improved in that area last season
he only had 3 drops the whole year.
Brick Top - February 20, 2012
boom.
sergey606 - February 20, 2012
goes the dynamite
thisguy - February 20, 2012
so what
you can’t base the rest if his career on one bad game.

Not worth the money he wants.
I’d much rather have Colston, or Vincent Jackson for about the same amount.
I’d also rather have Meachem and Garcon for considerably less.
I’d rather deal with Randy Moss for a year or two as well…at least he won’t be getting 10mil a year.
Scato - February 20, 2012
Yeah Randy wouldn't be getting 10 mill that's for sure
then again, most people on unemployment don’t get 10 mill per year.
sergey606 - February 20, 2012
I think he will cost somewhere around 5 years, $45 million
I think he is well worth it. 13 yards a catch, 17 TDs last two season along with over 2000 yards. Also at the age of 25 he can still get better.
Brick Top - February 20, 2012
You just sold me.
Go get em
jmo53 - February 20, 2012 via Android app
I think he'd be signed already if he were willing to sign for that.
I’d still be amazed if he doesn’t get tagged as well. The report I read yesterday quoted Johnson as the one saying he doesn’t think the Bills will tag him.
Scato - February 20, 2012
yeah!
Brandon and I are driving this bandwagon!
sergey606 - February 20, 2012
Can I ride?
Ram_Redemption - February 20, 2012 via mobile
oh yeah
ALL ABOARD!! Choo-choo!
sergey606 - February 20, 2012
The douche also blamed god for dropping a pass in the endzone!! Stay away!!
Llyod is a beast. Watch the guy run a route he straight up breaks some ankles. He also has possibly the best hands in the nfl. I agree with the Bibs tag the man! If used correctly and given sam some time to throw the ball creates some big problems for defenses. Which in turn makes everyone else better.
jimmy5523 - February 20, 2012
hahaha he did?! are you serious? That's awesome
I always say “They always thank god, but never blame him after losing, even Tim Tebow loses!”
but I’ll leave it at that.
Now I really want him.

From ESPN:
-Mocked to take Blackmon (especially if he runs a fast 40 time)
-Schefter speculates a trade with Cleveland, Miami or Wash (go figure)
-Rams could trade that #33 pick
sergey606 - February 20, 2012
Ever since he mentioned it, I love this guy even more
sergey606 - February 20, 2012
LOL
Is that what Stevie wrote?? In regards to what?
Horcrux7 - February 20, 2012
Dropping the td in overtime vs pitt
