The NFL playoffs start today. No, the St. Louis Rams didn't somehow sneak in with their 2-14 record, but there's still some great football to seen. In fact, it's the kind of football many Rams fans wouldn't recognize after six years of Rams football.
The first game on the fight card today is a great one. The Houston Texans host the Cincinnati Bengals in a battle of rookie quarterbacks and great defenses. I'm personally pretty pumped to see this game.
Related: A look at the battle of the rookie QBs today. How did the Texans turn it around?
The game starts at 2 p.m. Central time, so get the beer on ice and get ready. As usual you can get highlights from the game, updates, news, etc. right here in the SBN story stream.
I'm going to go and convince my wife - I started this at 1 p.m. - to let me watch the game, despite her protestations about the Rams season being over and whatnot.

Typo...
S’posed to have those teams switched around
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
That shouldnt be to hard
Shes a women, tell her the season isn’t over. 90% chance she buys it.

It goes deeper than the Rams.
Football doesn’t end until February. Duh, Van’s wife.
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
Your wife needs a shopping day! It may wind up costing you more than actually attending the game, but what the hell! :-)
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
That's a good idea
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
On the bright side for me:
Van’s “life endangering” issue here has shown me a bright side of having your girl living half way across the country
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
+1 Now you're learning! :-)
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
Yep
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
The downside of it though is:
Pretty much everything else
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
This could be a really good game. Delholme could add some drama if he starts for Houston
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
Would the Texans be the best team by far
If they had Schaub, Johnson, Williams all year?
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
I think they'd be one of the Bye Week-teams this week at the very least
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
They'd be Super Bowl contenders, no doubt.
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
I think they'd be the favorite
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Yo RGIII (3X1) and Douglas
It appears the two favorites to land the HC job in Jacksonville are Rob Chudzinski and Jay Gruden. Interesting stuff.
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
Those dudes are really good
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
LOL I knew they'd be high on team lists. I read somewhere that "Chud" was up for the San Diego OC job? Or was that HC until they decided to keep Turner?
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
HC before Norv stayed
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
I'm not sure.
I’d rather him just stay in Carolina than opt for Jacksonville, to be honest with you. Don’t settle for the first offer and put yourself at risk of hurting your reputation… I see the Panthers as a much better team in the foreseeable future.
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
Agreed
I think he should wait for Miami to have to scramble for a coach and give up on this bug name thing. Chud is a Miami grad, who won a title with them as the OC. If he were to go and be a good head coach with the Dolphins, that would be great for that team and him

+1
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
By the way, I just moved you DC post to the front page
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
Hey, thank you!
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
This is either a great game or terrible
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
$5 says AJ Green catches Cincy's first TD
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
I'll take $10 on Dalton looking bad for most the game
Cause of his flu and all the practice he missed
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
That and a ginger QB has never won a Super Bowl..
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
Well how many ginger qb's are there?
And the reason is cause it takes a lot of heart and SOUL to win a Super Bowl

So funny that they reference Eric Cartman. Love it.
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
When Kroenke replaces the EJD
I hope it resembles a place like Reliant Stadium, or even Univ. of Phoenix Stadium. We don’t need an overly flashy home like the Cowboys, but a retractable roof, improved turf and a state-of-the-art facility are on my 2015 wish list.
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
What's wrong with the turf at the Ed?
Honestly I don’t think we currently have filled the suite and club level to capacity so I don’t see the logic in blowing up a 15 year old facility with the only real benefit a few thousand more seats to ensure more black outs and some cosmetic changes such as a retractable roof. None of this makes the team more profitable. Nothing wrong with the Ed other than that BS lease agreement… and the shitty play of the team that makes their home their.
I say commit to staying in St Louis and building a competitive team. Then when there is enough demand to create an actual need for a new stadium then we’ll build one. Let’s at least look at a few renovation plans before we tear down the Ed. I see fancy stadiums and all the other crap that distracts from the watching of the ACTUAL GAME as part of what’s wrong with proffessional sports.
Sggladden - January 7, 2012
The problem with the turf is all the injuries
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
The turf isn't causing injuries.
Now piss poor play is contributing to the ammount of injuries.
Sggladden - January 7, 2012
You can't fix the Ed it sucks
trust me as a season tix holder, the Dome experience is one of the worst in the NFL. Plus new stadium doesn’t have to have to seats
Brick Top - January 7, 2012
I don' have to trust you
I’ve been a season ticket holder for a while now and there is absolutely nothing major lacking with the Ed in terms of enjoying the game save the abismal play of the Rams.
I’ve been to a few other NFL venues and apart from nice or nasty weather the experience of watching the game is exactly the same.
Liking or not liking indoor football is a preference and no reason to abandon a facility that is in good shape.
Sggladden - January 7, 2012
Tell me is there any other stadium in the NFL that takes as long to get in?
Absolutely not!!!! Is there a stadium with worst acoustics?? I highly doubt it. Is there a stadium with worse tailgating spots around it??? Again, probably not many. And I wouldn’t call a facility that is ranked almost dead last in NFL arenas, “in good shape”. This is the NFL, good isn’t good enough.
Brick Top - January 7, 2012
TD Benson
He’s on my fantasy team!!!!
Brick Top - January 7, 2012
I dropped him for you and added Steven Jackson... lol
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
JJ Watt has better hands than all the Rams recievers
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
James Laurinaitis has better hands than all the Rams receivers
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
This is a factual statement.
FailureDrill - January 7, 2012 via Android app
What about Brandon Lloyd?
RAMpage28 - January 7, 2012
Brandon Lloyd is a Patriot now...
Or soon will be.
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
I don't think he'll go to the Pats. He'll test the FA market though
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
But are you confident that he will not be back in horns?
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
I feel like he won't be
You never know though. If the Rams make a decent deal I’d be happy to see him back
Notorious PSC - January 7, 2012
What about Danny?
ThomasZ - January 7, 2012
Bengals are going to be really good next year
Everyone gains experience, plus they get a lot of players back from injury
Jombari - January 7, 2012
They are still the Bengals though
Notorious PSC - January 7, 2012
O/U 80 points for the Saints/Lions game?
Jombari - January 7, 2012
Busted
Saints 42 – Lions 38
Joe Mazzi - January 7, 2012
I
Notorious PSC - January 7, 2012
I'll say under
About 38-31, Saints
