The word on the street continues to be that Jeff Fisher is very close to picking the St. Louis Rams for his next head coaching job. Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network was the latest to hint at that possibility. Fisher is close enough to making a decision, that speculation about his coordinators has already begun.
New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was mentioned as a possibility by LaCanfora on this segment from the NFL Network. Williams' contract with the Saints is up after this season, and he could be enticed to reunite with Fisher, for whom he worked from 1997-2000. Williams runs a 4-3 base defense, but with a very aggressive, blitz-happy approach. That could be particularly good news for Chris Long and Robert Quinn.
Former Rams and Saints fullback Mike Karney mentioned on Twitter today that he received a text message from Jacksonville offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter that he would like a shot at the Rams' OC job under Fisher. Who wouldn't. Karney knows Koetter from their days together at Arizona State. Fisher would have some familiarity with Koetter from years in the AFC South.
Another name to keep an eye on is Dowell Loggains, the quarterbacks coach and passing game assistant in Tennessee. Fisher hired Loggains in Tennessee in 2008, promoting him to his current position in 2010. His work with Jake Locker looked promising, albeit in limited reps from Locker this season. He might be a better hire as a QB coach, working with Sam Bradford. The Bears were reportedly interested in him for a similar position. It's worth remembering that Tennessee does not have to allow Loggains to interview as an assistant with other teams.

The way things have gone for the Rams the last decade, wait till Fisher has signed and the contract is notarized before speculating

"Heavy" :-)
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
There's that word again; "heavy".
Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth’s gravitational pull?
crashoveride01 - January 8, 2012
LOL
VTramsFan - January 7, 2012
I hope the first assistant hired is a QB coach

I'm not all that crazy about Williams as DC. N.O.'s D isn't all that impressive. I'd rather see Gray from the Titans
There is a great fanpost about some decent candidates for DC here
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
That's mostly because the defensive players can't tackle
And they don’t have the best talent when it comes to defensive backs (Boy, do we know what that’s like). Williams’ schemes are awesome though. Get the man some more talent and he could do wonders
turpinforpresident - January 7, 2012
I agree. He and every other DC are limited by the tools they have at any given time.
One of the things we haven’t taken into account with the wholesale staff firing is how many hands will be out come draft time by the new staff. I do see us taking a DT by the 3rd round though. Whoever is DC, our need for a DT or two is high on the list anyway.
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
Especially if we acquire a few extra picks via trade
Brandon thompson or dontari poe in the 2nd, perhaps?
turpinforpresident - January 7, 2012
Williams will run anything, it all depends on the players he has. He changes his base defense from game to game, half to half, and quarter to quarter.
DrWhoDat - January 7, 2012
How hard will the Saints try to keep him?
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
Idk, I think he is really good and I would never let him get away if I were them
But based on people’s reactions, I might be too high on him
King Sam Rules! - January 7, 2012 via mobile
I could see him leaving for a head coaching job
But only if that team has an elite QB. He has said as much.
DrWhoDat - January 7, 2012
Well one thing is for sure
All the major national media is praying that Fisher is going to Miami. For the most part they all hate St Louis and the Rams.
Man I hope we get Fish and he turns us into a major player so these turds in suits on TV will have to give us our due LOL
Sggladden - January 7, 2012
They will still only talk about Tebow, Brady and the Cowboys lol
ChrisL951 - January 7, 2012
Difference is Brady deserves it
Tebow and the cowbitches don’t.
RG31 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Sports media talks about whatever makes them the most money
It’s not that they hate st louis specifically, they just want to stifle small markets to keep the big market cities on top every year. It’s pretty corrupt, actually. NFL network isn’t as bad about it as ESPN is
turpinforpresident - January 7, 2012
oh please...
the media likes who’s ever the best story. New Orleans isn’t a big market and they love New Orleans because the Saints are an awesome team.
They were hopping on the Bills jocks when they started of undefeated and disappeared once they came back to earth.
If the Rams were winning we’d be the new media darlings…trust me.
Bralidore - January 7, 2012
Not all the attention he gets
They would report on him taking shits if they could lol
ChrisL951 - January 7, 2012
True, but they actually do report on Tebow's shits
They call the segment: The Holy Shits.

One of my favorite Onion sports headlines of the year:
“Tim Tebow Becomes First Christian In Pro Football History”
turpinforpresident - January 7, 2012
Too funny! Is that a real headline somewhere?
Douglas M - January 7, 2012
Yes and no
It was an actual headline for The Onion, but the Onion is a mock news site for comdey purposes
turpinforpresident - January 7, 2012
I am SCARED
I really do not what to do but Login.
Da Rookie - January 7, 2012
Yes to Fisher
Fisher will spend the next 12 years with St. Louis and get a championship or two…or threepeet!
fearsomefoursum - January 7, 2012
you funny
jswirb - January 8, 2012
I like all the moves except for Koetter
Koetter was a mediocre college coach at ASU. He couldn’t beat any better than average teams in the old PAC-10 and got canned after leading the team in rapid spiral downward. Then out of luck Jacksonville hired him as their offensive coordinator. I don’t even need to tell you guys how potent the Jacksonville offensive has been… ha! We’ll see more of the same blah offense with him.
Da Rams! - January 7, 2012
All i know is this,
with Mc D now with the Pats i wouldnt put no money on them to get to the super bowl lol :)
OldRam61 - January 8, 2012
fischer will sign by monday--as once again the great jswirb said one week ago
AS USUAL RIGHT ON
ONCE AGAIN
FRIEND SAID “as usual you are right again ,,you should be in devaneys place”
nuff said
jswirb - January 8, 2012
HOPEFULLLY fischer will weed out half the team
and if bradford cannot beat a winning team
next year weed him out also
jswirb - January 8, 2012
and trust me within 5 years the rams will be back om the coast
i’ll get to see them a bit more
other than us diehards
st louis has and always will be a baseball town
other than TGSOT days local coverage of the rams from what i hear is minimal
fischer will lead them geographically back to where his relationship began
i believe thats his long term goal
that and teaching bradford to complete a pass
