It's been a busy week for Jeff Fisher. The belle of the head coaching candidate ball has been wooed by both the Miami Dolphins and the St. Louis Rams, in a manner befitting the courtship rituals of Southern aristocracy. Out of all this a decision should be coming soon, Peter King of SI.com reports that a decision should be coming within the next 48 hours.
Of reports are to be believed, and there does seem to be a critical mass of them, the decision for Fisher is between the Dolphins and the Rams. So which one is it?
Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune says that Fisher leans toward the Fish, intimating with a cleverly placed '$' that the money will take him to South Beach (personally, I'd head to South Beach for the well tanned ladies, but that's just me). Pompei's report smacks of the media negotiations that have been common the dance for Fisher's services over the last 24 hours, which isn't to discount the possibility of making a decision based on cold hard cash.
Another key fact of the timeline worth noting, these reports about Fisher leaning toward Miami are trickling out before he's interviewed with the Rams. If that doesn't scream public bargaining, I don't know what does, whether it's coming from Fisher's people, Stephen Ross in South Florida or both.
Whether the Rams land Fisher or not, at least we'll have something else to occupy the media cycle in just 48 short hours.

Generally money IS the chief factor in any business proposition.
And when you throw in the Florida sunshine, the fact the Dolphins are better than us right now, and it is rumored that Fisher is not enamored with Bradford, it sounds like Fishman is destined to go to the Fish. That’s ok with me as long as we don’t default to some unproven coordinator as HC again. I hope we can get an experienced guy like Cowher, Gruden, Sherman, Billick or….
JHaier - January 5, 2012
The first two wont come here, and billick is overrated
Id take sherman in a heartbeat though. He was fired after one bad year in Green Bay after having a really good run
King Sam Rules! - January 5, 2012 via mobile
I am
With you KSR. Iwill take one more step and say I would prefer Sherman even to Fisher.
RWRAMS28 - January 5, 2012
I agree 10000000% !! lol
J.E.T.music - January 5, 2012 via mobile
If his last name was Pujols I would tend to agree with you.
But Fisher needs think more than just the money. He needs to land in a good situation. One thats going to allow him to survive and thrive as a HC. What good is the biggest HC contract in NFL history if the team offering it doesn’t put him in the best situation so he’ll be around till the end of it. I’m sure he’s looking for longevity and the Rams job might be the best one. He’s got a franchise QB (I don’t believe the media reports about his views on Bradford), the #2 pick throughout the draft, tons of free agent cash available, possible say so in the hiring of the next GM, and the expectation won’t be the ‘Superbowl or bust’ his first year here. The team is young and the older vets have short (or already expired) contracts, so plenty of opportunity to quickly bring his guys in to play. He’ll be able to put his stamp on this team. And it doesn’t help Miami the way they treated their previous coach. Their owner was interviewing his replacement in 2009, despite the coach still being on staff. They weren’t even being coy about it. He even went as far as offering the job to Harbaugh who turned it down and went to the Niners. I’m sure Fishers looking at that situation. If I’m Fisher I try to get the Rams to come close or match the Fins offer and I take their job.

I couldn't agree more
the sunshine? The bronze tanned ladies? C’mon Fisher isn’t LeBron James and if he did make his decision based on those things or on the money he’d be doing us a favor as he wouldn’t be the guy we thought he was.
The ‘not being outbid’ campaign by Miami sounds kind of desperate to me. The owners a buffoon if he thinks the things DaRams mentioned won’t affect Fishers decision. That and the fact that Kroenke has a tendancy to hire coaches and GMs and leave them alone. Look at the Denver Nuggets. I could be wrong but I certainly understand why people around the NFL see us as the frontrunners. And now the Rooney rule has been complied with so everything is on schedule. That being said, I’ll feel better when this is done.
dbcouver - January 5, 2012
You can alway visit South Beach during the offseason...
I’m s-u-r-e Mrs. Fisher will buy into Jeff taking the Dolphin’s job to hang around the bronze tanned ladies there. My next post would be in the after-life if I took a job for that reason and the wife found out.

If it's only about money let him go to South Beach
I want a coach that is focused on building a good team and winning a SB, not about how much money is in his bank account.

Fisher meeting with kroenke, miami says they will top any offer
Then again, money might not be the top selling point. http://www.foxsportsmidwest.com/01/05/12/Report-Fisher-meeting-with-Kroenke/landing_rams.html?blockID=640206&feedID=3586

Dan Pompei
Wow I have not heard that name since a real pizza in Chitown.
Da Rookie - January 5, 2012
Bargaining Chip....
When Kroenke tells Fisher that the Rams will be moving to L.A. where Fisher is from that may sway his decision a bit :P
Popp24 - January 5, 2012
And they'll change the team name to
Southern California Trojans to make him feel more at home.
douchiedude - January 5, 2012
Have we interviewed anyone else yet?
And if not, does that mean that we cannot hire him on the spot because of the Rooney Rule?
DCRamFan - January 5, 2012
We're supposedly interviewing Bowles sooner or later
Dolphins interim HC
Joe Mazzi - January 5, 2012
How ironic
dbcouver - January 5, 2012
Indeed
Joe Mazzi - January 5, 2012
Didn't we talk to Todd Bowles?
Oski Bear - January 5, 2012
Wasnt sure
that’s why I was asking. I’d like to read a headline that says our crab feast was better than the Fins, and therefore he’s coaching us to 8-8 next season
DCRamFan - January 5, 2012
I'd love to have Fisher
We haven’t had a “professional” head coach in a long time. All the coordinators we’ve tried over and over seemed to use the Rams as a learning situation rather than a championship situation.
Oski Bear - January 5, 2012
I'd say Spags was as professional as it gets.
douchiedude - January 5, 2012
didn't mean that as a knock on his personality and demeanor.
He is a classy guy. I meant he didn’t have a developed system with identity yet – no set structure/proven vision on how to build a franchise. He is a great Def Coordinator, but putting a group of coaches together with an offense that compliments the defense is another thing entirely. He seems to be figuring that out still.
Oski Bear - January 5, 2012
I'm betting we get Fisher
The money won’t be enough to lure him to Miami. He’d have a lot more autonomy here. He’d also have a better QB than any Miami has to offer. Miami would have to mortgage a lot to get RGIII, and we hopefully will be on the receiving end of said transaction with whomever wants him enough.
dbcouver - January 5, 2012
I hope you're right
Oski Bear - January 5, 2012
I know it's speculation
but that’s what we do here, eh? :)
dbcouver - January 5, 2012
If we do lose out
I know we’ll buy a team helicopter this week.
dbcouver - January 5, 2012
And this is the first time I've thought of it
but does the firing of Devaney and Spags mean that our team is no longer built around those raggidy ass Four Pillars?
I hope so, which means we’ll get players who will punch other players in the face, and score TD’s doing so
DCRamFan - January 5, 2012
Haven't you seen the Denver Nuggets
They were the NBA’s most tattooed team. Melo, K-Mart, and Birdman. Need more convincing?
81 Witness - January 5, 2012
Good point
I hadn’t thought of that before, but that’s right. I was never a fan of the four pillars. Character was the only one that made much sense. Core values is completely relative, team first is hard to gauge, and building a team around religious faith instead of talent makes no sense. Pat tillman, robert smith, and dan fouts were great players who would not have fit the faith pillar.
turpinforpresident - January 5, 2012
At this point, a player of ours getting a fine from the NFL
is the least of my worries. Give me a balla!
DCRamFan - January 5, 2012
Never said before for the sake of not being "PC"
…but “faith” always bothered me a bit. How much religion was a part of that? Did that mean only Christian believers would be selected? Were atheists ignored? …muslims? …etc…
just a thought
Oski Bear - January 5, 2012
seemed like a facade to me
of course you want those players on your team……….I think they’re called veterans. To think we were going to build a whole team of church-goers would’ve gotten us……..2 wins
DCRamFan - January 5, 2012
lol
Oski Bear - January 5, 2012
I'm with you on that
That always bugged me.

What I meant to say is if Fisher goes to Miami, he gets the money, the tanned hunnies, the beach AND the quarterback.
He’ll get RG III after the Fins trade up with the Rams to make their big splash.
