The St. Louis Rams have requested permission to interview Eric DeCosta, the Baltimore Ravens Director of Player Personnel, according to Pro Football Talk. DeCosta would be interviewing for the team's General Manager position, vacant following the firing of Billy Devaney.
If true, this would be the first confirmed candidate for the Rams' GM job.
DeCosta is considered one of the rising young stars in the NFL front office world. He joined the Ravens in 1996 and worked his way up through the scouting department. Prior to being promoted to his current position in 2009, DeCosta served as the Ravens' Director of College Scouting.
His record with the Ravens speaks for itself. Few teams in the NFL have done what the Ravens have managed to do through the draft, keeping their roster stocked with talent. You can take a look back at their draft history courtesy of Pro Football Reference.
DeCosta will be one of the more desirable GM candidates on the market. Already, the Oakland Raiders are said to be interested, and other teams could jump into the mix. The Colts have also requested permission to interview DeCosta for their GM opening. Don't rule out the Ravens, either. DeCosta has been referred to in the past as the eventual successor to current Baltimore GM Ozzie Newsome.

These guys drafted Ed Dickson Oregon TE in the third round, after we drafted Murphy CB, = nuttin!!! Drafted just ahead of Ed. Ed will be a pro bowl TE the next 6 years. They(Ravens) got talent!!! Worked him in. Not a great passing team the ravens, but when they make the next move to the air….they are set.

Eric Nagel - January 4, 2012
He is the richest owner in the NFL and he wants to win championships... Of course he will.

Heyyy Brandon Roy changed their image!
Really sad that his career is over.
douchiedude - January 5, 2012
just because he has the money doesnt mean he wants to spend it
I’m just saying if he wants his favorites, I hope he will dish out some cash
Eric Nagel - January 4, 2012 via mobile
he WONT spend that much
you guys do understand how thinly spread he is right he owns the nuggets, avalanche, rams and most importantly Arsenal which he can’t skimp on at all because of the insanity that revolves English Soccer. Arsenal will get the most of his money and he will have to keep such a traditional team competitive which will cost more

I really want this to happen
When AJ Smith seemed like the guy the Rams wanted, I wanted Devaney to stay. This though would be awesome.
HomerForTheRams - January 4, 2012
He appears like the
right guy to me. Pull the trigger!
RamTeaPartier - January 4, 2012

Eric Nagel - January 5, 2012
Eric DeCosta is not afraid of success. Great thing!
He’s not afraid to move up in the draft, to get better players.
He was also their Dir of College scouting. Gutsy move. I like it.
This would be immediate “culture change,” for the Rams organization.
And guess what? He knows a real LT when he sees one!!!!!
We’ll NEED him on Draft day 2012……….
look closer - January 4, 2012
DeCosta Never would've drafted Jason Smith that high.
Because,
he knew that Jason couldn’t handle the NFL Bull-Rushers!
He would’ve drafted some other way, and we would have a solid LT right now.
Go Rams!

OK off to watch food network kitchen makeover or whatever the damn show is called

VTramsFan - January 4, 2012
I hope we can pry him away because it's said he's gotten GM offers in the past and turned them down
diehardram87 - January 4, 2012
I asked
for him the day Billy was canned. Here we go Eric here we go!
RWRAMS28 - January 4, 2012
I want it to happen too.
Badly.
How-evuh…. remember they’ve only requested permission to talk to him. He could very well tell the Rams to go pound sand upon contact.
What I’m saying is, for the folks who like to go completely overboard with reaction- don’t do the whole counting chickens thing.
FailureDrill - January 4, 2012 via Android app
Git er dun!
Joe Mazzi - January 4, 2012
Looks like Les Snead & Brian Gaine are candidates also.
Snead:Falcons Director of Player Personnel.
Gaine: Miami Personnel Director
They seem to be lining up GM 1st?
RBramfan - January 4, 2012
Down with Snead.
Any team’s Director of Player Personnel that has had success really lol.
douchiedude - January 5, 2012
The Rams have received permission to interview Falcons player personnel director Les Snead for their GM vacancy.
The 49ers interviewed Snead for the same job in San Francisco last year before settling on Trent Baalke. It’s believed Snead works hand in hand with GM Thomas Dimitroff on the Falcons’ drafts, which have been pretty successful and, more recently, highly aggressive. Per his AtlantaFalcons.com bio, Snead “oversees both the college and pro scouting efforts” for the Falcons.
jpcisco - January 4, 2012
I like the McKenzie guy from GB for some reason
sergey606 - January 4, 2012
Hopefully, Kroenke makes his decision based on more than just “some reason”
Jim Everett - January 4, 2012

fearsomefoursum - January 5, 2012
