There have been many names linked to the St. Louis Rams' head coaching search. Among those names have been the likes of Jon Gruden and Jeff Fisher, both proven NFL head coaches. Ryan recently reported that the brass at Rams Park are also interested in Miami's Todd Bowles. Another name that has been tossed out there has been Mike Sherman. Here's a quick look at his credentials:

Michael Francis Sherman
Green Bay Packers Head Coach (2000-2005)
· 57-39 regular season
· 2-4 postseason record
· Five consecutive winning seasons (00-04)
· Three consecutive NFC North titles (02-04)
· 4-12 record in final year as HC
Houston Texans Offensive Coordinator (2007)
· 2007 Texans offense ranked 14 after ranking 28 in the previous season
Texas A&M Head Coach (07-11) (College)
· First two years resulted in losing seasons
· 2010 9-4 record, Big 12 South Division title
- 2011 6-6 record (Fired Dec. 1)
As a head coach in Green Bay, the man excelled wonderfully - leading his team to five winning seasons. His overall record (57-39) also trumps Spagnuolo's (10-38) record, making him a vast improvement. Sherman would bring a winning mentality. He would also bring in an experienced head coach that the Rams have reportedly been searching for.
Offensively, he would be the answer. He did bring the Texans out of the gutter. His offense also helped Brett Favre lead the league in touchdowns in 2003.
If Sherman does indeed get hired, he'll most likely bring in his West Coast offense. That means incumbent OC Josh McDaniels will most likely be on his way out. Sam Bradford will then have to learn his third offense in as many years, and that is not good. Quarterbacks have been hurt by a lack of consistency. The most recent has been Alex Smith - I have a saying when this happens, it is called getting Alex Smith'd.
Another reason to think twice about hiring Sherman would be his failure in the college ranks with the Aggies.

Sherman
works for me. It would not require Sam to learn another O if in fact the new HC cans McD. It would also fit the OL we have beter than the style we ran this year. In my mind it then makes it a no brainer to take Blackmon. Smith, Saffold and crew were much more effective in the WC. It would make life easier for Salas, Pettis and Kendricks as well. He would be a suitable HC replacement IMO.

I can dig it.
Random, but intriguing candidate.

I wouldn't call it failure IMO
College is about recruiting, not as much about scheme. Also, it was A&M, that was as good as they were ever gonna get

Hmmm maybe
VTramsFan - January 4, 2012
how is that Bradford's third offense
Wasn’t our offense last year basically West Coast?
ChrisL951 - January 4, 2012
yes you're right...
VTramsFan - January 4, 2012
Would it not still be a thirs offense
As it would be a new play book with new terminology?
Peter Vevers - January 4, 2012
But it would not be a completely new system
ChrisL951 - January 4, 2012
I vote to pass!
That A & M team should have been better…………….
RamTeaPartier - January 4, 2012
Eww

“the man excelled wonderfully – leading his team to five winning seasons. His overall record (57-39) also trumps Spagnuolo’s (10-38) record, making him a vast improvement.”
That is a ridiculously stupid statement. He has more wins, so he’s obviously better? Do you have any idea the situations surrounding those teams when they were coaches? Do you seriously believe that Mike Sherman would’ve done substantially better in his 3 years here over Spags?
Saying one coach is superior to the other based solely on wins is ignorant. You might as well only compare QB’s by their wins, D lineman by their sacks, or WR’s by their TD’s.
TheSmart1 - January 4, 2012
This is a performanced based league
So yes we do compare QB’s by their wins. D-linemen by their sacks & WR’s by their TD’s! And HC are judged based on how many wins they get.

Congratulations
You just proved it’s better to be quiet and thought of a fool instead of opening your mouth and removing all doubt.
TheSmart1 - January 4, 2012
I totally agree with you
I mean, Jerry Rice only has 207 touchdowns. You see, this is a situational league. There isn’t any doubt in my mind that Drew Bennett would excel in a situation like that.
Like you can even compare Rice’s 207 touchdowns to anyone. That’s just stupid and it in no way measures how good he is as a player.
Eric Nagel - January 5, 2012
Doesn't even compare to Crabtree's 12 touchdowns when you compare the situation they were both in.
douchiedude - January 5, 2012
Nah
The Only Thing I Like About Sherman, Is He Stood Up To That Fat Bastard Sapp.
Ben Bojorquez - January 4, 2012
+1 The Smart -
I mean like, what NFL coach who has been in the league for 3 years or more doesn’t have a record that trumps Spags?
DCRamFan has got it right……….Any HC candidate who looks like a nice guy who could whip you in a game of chess is out!
RamTeaPartier - January 4, 2012
Chess Player
Maybe we need a chess player. Would a chess player have let Crabtree line up all alone in field goal formation?
Hire a chess playing hard ass like Fisher or Billick, not Singletary, I’m not sure that he could play checkers.
