Marshall Faulk Expresses His Doubts About Brian Schottenheimer, Cites Jets' Awesome Collection Of Talent

Since retiring from football, former St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk has made a cottage industry of criticizing the team from behind a desk at the NFL Network. The last Faulk piped up to say something about the Rams, he was bemoaning Spagnuolo's redecorating efforts, particularly the decision to move Faulk's pictures to another part of the building. Faulk took the opportunity to trash the incoming regime at Rams Park, while usurping the media spotlight along with his other NFL Network colleagues at the Super Bowl media day.

Star-divide

Faulk was asked about the coaching changes in St. Louis, specifically the addition of Brian Schottenheimer. Mike Sando, ESPN's NFC West blogger, reported Faulk's less-than enthusiastic endorsement of Schottenheimer.

I don't think there was a huge difference between how the Jets' offense looked and how the Rams' offense looked.

You don't get it any better than Shonn Greene, L.T. [LaDainian Tomlinson], Plaxico [Burress] and Santonio [Holmes] and [Dustin] Keller. And now he is going to a team that doesn't have a No. 1 receiver.

Actually, it does get better than those players ... much better. Greene and LT ranked 48th and 51st, respectively, on Pro Football Focus' positional rankings this season, with 1.9 and 1.1 scores. Steven Jackson ranked 24th with an 8.5 overall score.

Holmes' issues have been chronicled, and even LT said that poisoned the Jets' locker room and performance on the the field. Burress caught just 50 percent of the passes thrown his way.

Faulk's assessment that "you don't get it any better" than that collection of players could be an indication of failing memory, considering the impressive array of talent he played with during his Rams days. And, of course, there's the game he's ostensibly in Indianapolis to cover. Both of those teams have a far more impressive assortment of offensive talent than the Jets which Faulk speaks so highly of.

I'm not going to pretend that the Rams are one offseason away from 34 points per game. And I'll be waiting to see what Schottenheimer does with a fresh start in St. Louis. Personally, I think he extracted some positive returns from a quarterback whose ceiling is best described as above average, averaging being something more along the lines of Kellen Clemens.

For what it's worth, Faulk predicted that the Rams would score big points last season, including a break out against the Eagles in Week 1 ... so much for predictions.

I suspect Faulk would have sounded a different tone if the Rams were paying him to coach or play some other front office role.

What a great player

but does he ever come off as bitter. And I have no idea why he’d have a reason to be bitter.

He is just giving his opinion

I am not happy about the hiring Shotty and now I just hope that under Fishers supervision and Shotty learning from his mistakes that he will improve as a coordinator. I watched a lot of Jets games (I am from CT all of their games are on) and I was very unimpressed with his play calling and how undisciplined the offense was.

kinda makes you miss Shurmur, ehh?

at least he called plays the offense was capable of executing, plays designs to match the players abilities.

your kidding right? lol
I mean yes our offense did better with Shurmur vs McDaniels

but no I do not miss Shurmur Mike Holmgren must have been smoking crank to give him a HC job. That or he knows something no one else knows.

he's not the only one...

kurt warner has fired darts in the past at the rams too. still bitter getting traded i guess…

Wasn't Marshall part of the team assisting/helping/advising Stan in finding a new HC? Or is this purely about Schottenheimer?
This reaction is purely about Shotty
Maybe he wanted Martz?

I've got as much love for Mad Mike as the next guy, but when he left the Rams and the GSOT days he wasn't so prolific as an OC
The only thing I agree with Marshall on, is the removal of past Rams greats photos and memorabilia?

I never understood why Spags did that?

As much as he seemed to lose control on the football field

he sure was a control-freak behind the scenes.

btw

did you get my email?

Yup, I'll get back to you later today
wonder if fisher will put them back up LOL

would be weird wouldn’t it?

You kidding???

Fisher already has the lighter fluid. Theres gonna be a big bon-fire in the Rams Park parking lot with all 1999 Rams paraphonalia and especially the 2000 Rams Super Bowl relics. And I hear he’s inviting Mike Jones over for the barbeque… that is Jones will be the barbeque. You think Spags hated that stuff on the walls, wait until Fisher gets his hands on it.

Too late

They sold that stuff at the garage sale and now a good share of it hangs on my walls : )

no not weird at all it be the right thing to do
Doug

Hed didn’t remove them, he just relocated them somewhere else.

Yeah out of sight hahaha he was a jerk and an asshole so glad hes gone and soon forgotten
and to add on douglas...

there were reports that spag’s banned past alumni from even entering the building. now THATS jacked up!

I read that too. I'll try to find the interview Jack Youngblood did on the subject

How can you exclude guys like Youngblood and Deacon Jones? They would inspire the team

Spags was a dick with a complex thats why he did that
Faulk is Gay

That’s the only explanation that makes any sense. I hope he chokes on his microphone or trips over his box of depends while trying to crawl to the lou.

GASP!

….no you didn’t

Really...really......
I, too am concerned about our new OC

Nothing wrong with that, I hope. Maybe I’m wrong, but he’d have to change his ways to make us or even Fish happy. Not that he can’t do that but, it sucks hiring someone and depending on that to happen.

I will mention Hue

every time something shitty happens on offense…….for the entirety of 2012

what makes you think hue would have been better?
Hmmmm

Ran the ball, got promoted to HC….etc.

not a very good argument. but you are correct he did get promoted to HC...
honestly

I’m basing it on what little I’ve seen of his offense, the fact that they have good players on their offense who produce very little, and the overwhelming amount of Jets fans who made it clear that this guy blows…….on the other hand, Raiders fans were stopping by talking about how good of a hire he’d be.

….thats what makes me think he’d be better. What are your thoughts? I’ll be sure to remember your name, and when shit hits the fan, I’ll hope you’re on here to discuss it

I know, but im trying to stay optomistic.

Schotty is our OC and thats that. We cant dwell on what could have been, especially if we dont even know how things will end up.

I'll be honest, I wanted Hue

for better or for worse. My expectations aren’t very high with the direction that we went. I’ll hope your optimism is justifiable……for us both!

I thought Faulk was supposed to be helping with the GM search....

WTH ever happened to that? He and Vermeil, if I remember right.

that was according to Van ,dont ever believe what Van says he's always wrong lol
La Canfora tweeting that he 'hears' the Steve Keim interview went very well

I’m down for this signing

Sounds like ....

.. Faulk may have had a bad Concussion. Remember that he & Sjax had verbal confrontations. Must have had a lasting effect. Being a Ram or one of its fans, is like being a concervative Republican.
No Respect ( not cool ) !

fisher will put the pictures back and im sure torry big game holt will be aloud back in.
Im a jets fan.

Trust me. The schotty hiring was not a good idea at all. Every pass he had sanchez throw was either one only aaron rodgers could do or a dumpoff. No in between.
He does not know how to run an offense, and he really shit the bed in new york.
Considering that Bradford was one of the few qbs to perform worse than sanchez last year (even though I think bradford will have a better career than sanchez in the end), expect him to run an offense with zero confidence in his QB.
