Rams Continue GM Search; Interview Two Candidates On Monday

The St. Louis Rams continue their search for a new general manager this week. Two candidates will visit Rams Park as part of the application process. Steve Keim, the Arizona director of player personnel, had his interview pushed back to this week, according to Jim Thomas at the Post-Dispatch. Two other candidates are interviewing on Monday.

Joey Clinkscales, the Jets VP of college scouting, has been on the radar for some time now, before the team hired Jeff Fisher. He's been with the Jets for 17 years. 2011 was his fourth season in his current role. Here's an interesting look from the NY Daily News about the Jets' draft room and how it operates. As far as his role in selecting the personnel, Rex Ryan and GM Mike Tannenbaum get the final say.

A new name on the list interviewing today is George Paton, who successful broke the stalemate at the Battle of Bulge. Oh, wrong guy; that one spells his name "Patton" and looks an awful lot like George C. Scott. Paton is the Vikings' director of player personnel. He's been in his current job for five years, following a stint in Miami as the director of pro personnel from 2001-2006.

If the assistant coaches being hired are all experienced veterans, the GM candidates are relative newcomers. A report on Sunday said that control over the 53-man roster was preventing the Rams from interviewing some candidates, but that's never been confirmed. The same report cited a candidate, Rich Snead, who is not in the mix, according to what TST was told by the Rams.

My hope is that the two guys visiting today

leave St Louis, and never come back…………unless we play home games against the organizations they’re currently employed by

Steve Keim is one of the most respected FO guys in the league

I’d love to have him as GM

he was the exception there

this fellas from NY and MIN can take a hike, IMO

why the guy from the jets?
I think if you are looking for a

traditional GM you aren’t going to get it with the Rams hire. Fisher made sure of it by requiring control of the 53 man roster. With Demoff handling contracts and Fisher handling personnel the one void the Rams have is a guru of college scouting. That is why we are seeing all of these names linked to college scouting gigs with other organizations. The Rams hire will be the most irrelevant GM in the NFL from Day 1. What we are doing is hiring a college scout expert and slapping a GM title on him.
