It's NFL Draft day. Every team representative arrived early and hit the espresso cart so many times that they can't sit still as they await Rodger Goodell's arrival to start this year's player draft. Since the Rams haven't hired a GM, I get the call from Stan Kroenke, and agree to be his draft day czar. The Cleveland Brown's Mike Holmgren and I twitch and shake as the ocean of caffeine slams through our bloodstreams. We agree to trade the Rams #2 overall pick for the Browns #4 and # 22 picks. Now adreniline is added to my seven double espresso haze; it borders on euphoria.
Just as my heartbeat drops below 150, the ringing in my ears is replaced a whispered voice. Standing only inches from me is Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown. I jump back when he says something about trading me what sounded like "...all the women in his tribe."
It's seems Mike's fortune teller - Zola the Magnificent - has told him that unless he drafts corner back Morris Claiborne, he will be afflicted with "Hotdog fingers" and restless leg syndrome. Mike tells me he will trade his #17 and #21 picks for my #4 pick. He takes my mildly convulsing head shake as acceptance of his deal, turns, and runs down the isle to notify anyone who looks like they're from the NFL front office of the deal.
The St. Louis Rams now have the 17th, 21st and 22nd picks in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Who would you choose? Give me you're best choices while I hit the coffee bar...

doug decastro, kendall wright, peter conz
That order
Ram_Redemption - January 30, 2012 via mobile
I'm OK with these picks, but would prefer Doug's older brother David for our first pick.
Pekka for Predator Pontiff - January 30, 2012
My bad I meant him I think
Ram_Redemption - January 30, 2012 via mobile
The last time something like this occured...
We ended up with Damione Lewis, Ryan Pickett and Adam Archuleta… in other words, pass.
PMack1982 - January 30, 2012
It's just for fun. Have some coffee and give me your picks! 8-)
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
Devon Still
Cordy Glenn and Kendall Wright.
Brick Top - January 30, 2012
Aye.
These are my three also.
Pekka for Predator Pontiff - January 30, 2012
This would also be my 3.
Assuming Decastro is already taken and Floyd is also off the board.
modano9 - January 30, 2012
That's what I assumed as well
Brick Top - January 30, 2012
And that scenario isn't as crazy as you think!
But I really don’t think the Browns will trade up. McCoy isn’t bad and there are so many other needs that are more important than getting RG3.
Brick Top - January 30, 2012
I really think the Browns want Blackmon more than RGIII
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
+10000000000000000000
but I don’t think they’ll trade up for him. He’s not that elite of a prospect.
Brick Top - January 30, 2012
I agree, but I didn't think Julio was worth the trade up either.
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
bingo
that trade is what will make this one a strong possibility
sergey606 - January 30, 2012
I'll give it a shot
Doug Decastro, Alshon Jeffrey, and Melvin Ingram
if Jeffrey isnt there, I’ll take Wright or Floyd…….in that order
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
I don't think Decasto will last that long
and we don’t need another DE
Brick Top - January 30, 2012
doesn't Ingram play OLB?
and whoever the next best OL then…….if Decastro is gone, and that’d be my first of the 3 picks
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
Have you noticed that I just can't seem to do a "normal" Mock draft? It always involves some twist of fiction...? lol
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
That's why they're awesome!
Brick Top - January 30, 2012
cause literally none of the mocks are going to come true! might as well make the most obscure ones
sergey606 - January 30, 2012
THIS
Brick Top - January 30, 2012
I Would Select Kendall Wright
Then I would attempt to trade picks 21 and 22 for additional 2012 and 2013 draft picks.
ValdezY - January 30, 2012
Trent Richardson, Cordy Glen, and Deunta Hightower
A big assumption being that Richardson falls due to the devaluing of the RB position.
CaliRamMan - January 30, 2012
Me likey! Got to find a DT this draft. RB and WR are a coin flip until we hear whether Lloyd resigns
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
***re-signs***
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
aaaah......the ol 'resigns vs. re-signs' conundrum
totally different things! I also have to cinch my backside when I see someone talk about Lloyd ‘resigning.’ Nooooooooooooo!
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
It "their" and "they're" that give me a titch when misplaced...
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
and the oft-forgotten
‘there’………biggest loser of them all
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
Makes me cringe!
When you write a quick article lick this one (5 min) mistakes do happen. I encourage everyone to do at least a quick read-through on their fanposts before posting.
I do, occasionally, edit a fanpost or two for the authors. I’m here to help anyone who has a writing question or needs a beta reader
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
you said 'lick this one'
ha!
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
HA! Comment flaws are lesser transgressions :-)
This one was a typing glitch. One of my most common typing mistakes has to do with the word – “side” I often type “sied” for some reason?
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
Trent Richardson-If available if not – Lamar Miller
Kendal Wright
Mike Adams
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
Konz, Still or Brockers and Martin
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
You think Martin will drop this far? Getting Konz and Martin would be huge
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
Probably not but the 3rd OT could still be available at 17, then the DT and Konz
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
When the Mock draft first started to appear, OL Levy Adcock was getting some notice. What happened to him?
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
His deficiencies appeared at the shrine game
He had a hard time with speed rushers and that was supposed to be one of his strengths. Look for a rebound at some point this spring for Adcock. It’s the kind of thing NFL coaches can help him look good with.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
Wright stock seems to be skyrocketing? Has he overtaken Jeffrey as the #2 WR prospect?
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
By far
Ram_Redemption - January 30, 2012 via mobile
I would be interested to know how some of you rank the WR's
Mine:
1. Blackmon
2. Floyd
3. Wright
4. Jeffrey
5. open (maybe Sanu)
modano9 - January 30, 2012
jones above Jeffrey, not IMO, but so they say
sergey606 - January 30, 2012
Ya I wouldn't argue that.
Jeffrey has red flags all over him.
modano9 - January 30, 2012
so does Jones
he wears oven mitts when he plays
sergey606 - January 30, 2012
I've seen Sanu being taken by SF in round one on Wyche's Mock over at NFL.com
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
Jeffrey hasn't been the 2nd best for a while
dwight jones is even higher
sergey606 - January 30, 2012
Current Rankings
1 Justin Blackmon WR1 Oklahoma State rJr 6-1 215 speed 4.54

why does everyone hate Jeffery?
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
I don't
He’s a big guy, nice redzone threat.
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
I know nothing about Brian Quick
but I find it interesting that Jeffery, who’s been in the ’who’s the best WR’ talk all season long, is in the 5 spot here………two picks ahead of a guy from App St.
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
Here's my current top 20.....flame away
Blackmon
Jeffry
Floyd
Wright
Jones, Dwight

I love that site
I’m always referring to it to find players whom I’ve never heard of, or don’t know where they played, etc.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
WR Aaron Dobson is my sleeper pick this year
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
Quite a sleeper
You know he didn’t declare, right?
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
Is "Quick" related to the Philly receiver from years ago?
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
Brian Quick.....
No idea
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
How about Toon? Is he related to Al?
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
This double posting is bugging me. I'm going to switch over to Chrome. BRB
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
His son
But the kid is as good as advertised. Definitely not riding Dads coattails.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
I think Blackmon, Floyd, and Wright are top 3. (order debatable)
I would be interested to know why you would take Jeffrey as the 2nd WR in the draft? Obviously his size is a huge plus.
modano9 - January 30, 2012
It kind of falls into the
I can’t fault the guy for having a shitty QB, category. He’s transgressed this year, but I tend to not penalize draft position for those kinds of lulls. I had him high last year and he’s as good now as he was last year regardless of how the Cocks used him.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
My argument would be why the poor physical shape? Lack of conditioning?
modano9 - January 30, 2012
I usually don't dig that deep
If he has a work ethic problem or is out of shape is something I knew nothing about.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
I believe he has all the tools
I just hope he isn’t the next Mike Williams.
modano9 - January 30, 2012
I doubt we pick him up
So, yeah, I do too.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
...and he didn't even go to Penn St....? lol
Douglas M - January 30, 2012

OakCityRam - January 30, 2012

I’d never subltly hint at such things.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
so which ones are the Gilyard and Avery of the draft?
cause we’re getting that type
sergey606 - January 30, 2012
That's a trick question, huh?
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
That would be the third and fourth rounders
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
avery was the first WR taken, 2nd round
sergey606 - January 30, 2012
that was a mistake for sure
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
We should've picked a long snapper
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
or a sapper
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
or a lapper
I got one of those years ago in down town Ptown.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
ahead of Devin Thomas, I believe
quite the receiver class
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
actually, I'll take that back
because every other WR in that draft looks pretty damn desirable right about now
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
Yeah not hard
If they’re in uniform, they’re desirabler
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
hell, if they're not in a wheelchair
they’re the most desirablest
DCRamFan - January 30, 2012
Wright seems
to have the most speed even though he’s a little fella.
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
OC
Rams OC said they would run the ball first; I interpret that as pass the ball 100 times and hand it SJ twice. Better draft some OL and receivers.
JW Coop - January 30, 2012
I think you're correct on that one.
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
Which of the WR prospect have the "burner" speed? who has the fastest 44 time?
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
***40***
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
Looks like this guy
743 Dorian Graham WR 104 Syracuse Sr 5-10 185 4.32
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
Then Kendal Wright at 4.42
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
No 4.1 or 2 guys this year? I wonder how long it's been since this has happened?
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
There's a guy from UConn who's supposedly gotten below 4.2
Jarius Wrights pretty fast, too. It pretty much depends on the timers at the combine what will happen though. Usually they’re quicker on the button, there. Times sometimes drop.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
Demps would have been the fastest but he's not coming, I guess.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
Nope, nobody better than 4.32 until after the combine maybe
Joe Adams 4.38
Jarius Wright 4.34
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
Are there any LBs like Von Miller in the draft this year?
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
Nope
simply put
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
Not a knock on the LBs this year though.
Just not many Von Millers out there
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
Brown and Burfict not his caliber?
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
Burfict is considered a high ceiling guy and Brown has huge quickness
I’d say if Burfict pulls his head out and succumbs to a good coaching staff, he could become elite. Brown has some issues with taking the right angles and with wrapping up on his tackles. On the college level he’s able to make up for these defects with supreme quickness, in the NFL he’ll need to fix those problems to be elite. Still an awesome talent, though. Brown runs a sub 4.4 40 at the combine I bet.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
How about Burfict, Wright and Glenn for the three picks?
I really want a DT though!!!!
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
You're number one rated DT is
Devon Still DT 1 Penn State rSr 6-4 310
OakCityRam - January 30, 2012
Here we go
Still
Brockers
Poe
Ta’amu
Worthy
Thompson
Chapman
Martin
Reyes
Cox
Forston
Wolfe
Randall
Hicks
Baptiste
Regis
Powell
Jerrod-Eddie
Conrath
Harris
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
Yeah I want a DT too
I think I’d take one with that 2nd or 3rd pick in this scenario, or even in a straight tradeless draft because I think the drop off is less substantial in that position than in any of the O-line or OLB slots.
dbcouver - January 30, 2012
if we have those 3 picks
I go for Martin, DeCastro and Jeffrey.
If Martin is gone, DeCastro first, then Janoris Jenkins then Jeffrey.
Solidify the interior of the line and get a playmaker on offense and defense.
1st pick of the 2nd would be an OLB (not saying Brown coz I’ve seen no tape) and first pick of the 3rd would be best RB available.
If we have another 2nd I take the best DT or C or FS.
Infemous - January 30, 2012 via mobile
Getting Martin and Decastro would be HUGE! The guys seem to be down on Jeffrey right now, with Wright taking his place on the WR list
Douglas M - January 30, 2012
wait until the combine
His stock will only improve and by god I hope its not too much, so we can snag him in the 2nd if we stay pat and take Kalil
Infemous - January 30, 2012 via mobile
Wouldn't that be somethin'?
Let’s go…
17) OT Mike Adams
21) WR Michael Floyd
22) DT Jerel Worthy or OG Cordy Glenn
And to open day 2
33) OLB Zach Brown or WR Alshon Jeffrey
Joe Mazzi - January 30, 2012
Martin/Adams, Jeffery, Dwayne Allen
Basically the first pick on the highest rated OT…unless all the 1st rd tackles are gone. Then alshon to get a #1 receiver and dwayne Allen would help Bradford out in the receiving area as well as be a good blocking tight end in the running game.
18 for prez - January 30, 2012 via iPhone app
Although I like DeCastro a
lot, I think you can get Zeitler at the top of the 3rd round and not have much of a drop off from DD. Plus, DD will likely be gone at #17 so lets go with:
1) Brockers
2) Konz
3) Whichever receiver after Blackmon impresses us at the combine and showcases. Likely Floyd, Jeffrey or Wright.
Then at #33 go for Doug Martin at RB and hope he hasn’t dropped too much and then come back with Zeitler as the top pick in the 3rd round.
Our interior O-line will be set for years and will be anchored by the Big Uglies from Whiskey to go with Dahl. Move Saffold to RT and try to patch it together at LT. Re-sign Lloyd and Danny A. comes back and we are set at WR and our D-Line is improved dramatically with Brockers. Also, Doug Martin will catch a ton of passes out of the backfield and will make sure S Jax is not overworked.
Clearly there are still voids at CB, OLB and LT but Rome wasn’t built in a day or with one draft class.
RamTeaPartier - January 30, 2012
The real Bonzo scenario would be...
RG3 has some phenomenal workouts so the Colts pick him and not Luck. Then, even though I like Sam, the Rams trade Sam to Miami or Washington for their entire drafts (ala Ditka and Ricky Williams) and then the Rams take Luck at #2 and still have massive picks. Nothing in drafts end up as everyone expects.
RAMbunctious - January 30, 2012
Actually...
Cleveland would still be in the mix for that kind of trade as Pat would not be Cleveland HC without Sam having a good first year with him. Pat might like to work with Sam again. We may be able to squeeze even more picks out of them.
RAMbunctious - January 30, 2012
NO ONE
will take on Sams contract and he won’t renegotiate for less to be traded. Luck or RGIII would be great additions to any team but we’ve already invested too much in Sam.
jmo53 - January 31, 2012 via Android app
Mike Adams, Peter Konz, Cordy Glenn
Lammar Miller with pick #33, release Smith & Brown and add V-Jackson/D-Bowe in FA.
