Between Rams And Dolphins For Jeff Fisher, Per ESPN Report

The NFL rumor mill is in full swing, not even 24 hours after teams began cleaning house. For days Jeff Fisher has been the most talked about potential coaching candidate for the St. Louis Rams. This afternoon, John Clayton from ESPN said that it's between the Miami Dolphins and the Rams for Fisher.

According to Clayton, each team offers something a little different for Fisher. Miami may offer more money, but the Rams have an established quarterback in Sam Bradford. That factor, according to Clayton, makes St. Louis a more attractive destination. Something else at play is that Fisher would likely have some say in who the Rams hire to replace GM Billy Devaney. Miami already has a GM in place, Jeff Ireland.

Remember, this is all speculation. Kevin Demoff very plainly denied rumors that the Rams had an interview set up with Jeff Fisher as of Monday as well as the ongoing chatter about Fisher as a candidate that started before the season even ended. What Demoff did not deny is that Fisher is someone the team will look at to determine if he's the right fit.

No rumor about it, Fisher did interview with the Dolphins on Monday. I suspect Fisher will be conducting more interviews this week. Teams may want to move fast since Fisher figures to be one of the more popular candidates.

I pray we get Fisher

A guy with a proven track record and a good game manager.

+1 Fisher is a badass

Fisher would be crazy not to take the Rams job. He is excellent at drafting and developing talent. He is one solid draft away from division title contention.

I can only imagine what his coaching can do for Long and Quinn.

This is where Daddy Demoff

Makes it happen. No better selling point than Jr

Fisher will get the job, but who will satisfy the Rooney ruLe?

that will be a far more important hurdle. Perhaps Herm Edwards for the Lulz?

I don't see the established coaches seeing Miami as a good destination

You still have no answer at qb, and you still gave Brady, the Jets, and even the Bills (they are moving in the right direction IMO) in your division. I think you look here, you have Sam, a bevy of options in this draft, and are one year away from a spending spree. If during next year you show we are moving in the right direction and that this team is gonna go places, players will want to come play here and we will have the room to get them.

For sure!!!

The decision may hinder on

whether JF believes the Rams will end up in LA and if he wants to go there!

I don't think anyone really sees the Rams as a serious LA option

It most likely is gonna be the Jags, Vikes, or Chargers. I want it to be the Vikes, cause it would be ironic if they go there and 100 yrs from now are seen as the most storied and successful franchise in league history. Minnesota fans would drink forever over that happening with the Lakers and Vikings. Not likely to happen, but id laugh my dead ass off.

Also, LA does not have a stadium

and I believe AEG wants part ownership of any team that moves there, which I doubt Stan would do

It will take awhile to move a team there

Cause the stadium isn’t close to done (have they even broke ground?) and the USC contract with the Coliseum (bad spelling) would require the State of California to give The Colisseum to the Trojans in order to put the LA team there till the new stadium is done. I don’t see the state giving up state property to a private university over a team like the Vikes or Jags

They haven't started building a stadium yet
Yep, no one moving there for awhile

Cause the state can’t put a team in the colliseum or USC will veto it if they don’t get the colliseum

I believe

The coliseum is owned by the County of Los Angeles. It is ran by the Los Angeles Coliseum Commission. They are the ones that have kept a pro team out of LA for so long. They insisted the team must go to a rebuilt coliseum or they would not sign off on a new stadium.

The county stil wouldnt surrender the coliseum to USC

USC will veto any team playing in the coliseum unless USC gets the rights to it

When the college bubble bursts USC will be begging the State for help.

Times will change very soon here.

STFU about LA already

Rams have been there and done that. I highly doubt they’ll ever go back.

Also, and I can’t stress this enough, Kroenke’s part of the reason the Rams are in St. Louis in the first place. He is, at his core, a Missouri guy. I think he’ll do whatever he can to keep the team in St. Louis and make them competitive again.

If any team is going to populate LA (which I highly doubt will ever get a team back), it’ll be either the Chargers or the Raiders. I can’t see the Vikings leaving Minnesota, and a Jags move to LA would trigger a realignment (say hello to the AFC South, Chefs fans!).

I agree on the Chargers moving to L.A. - From what I hear it is all but done if S.D. doesn't get a new Stadium commitment very soon. If Oakland had won the AFC West, it would have been announced already
I find your response pretty funny.

“Rams have been there and done that. I highly doubt they’ll ever go back.”

“If any team is going to populate LA (which I highly doubt will ever get a team back), it’ll be either the Chargers or the Raiders.”

That is a bit of a contradiction. The Raiders have been there and done that as well just in case you did not know.

LA Rams does have a ring to it hahaha they use to come on the field like Hollywood stars lol
KSR - They are waiting for the

Environmental Impact Report due out within the month. It is due to be a 10k page report sure to put the likes of Tylenol PM out of business.

Too bad, cause I need Tylenol PM to sleep during allergy season
We got him unless someone swoops in by surprise.

The Rams will give Fisher more control over things than the Dolphins will. Plus he’ll have cap dough and some high round picks at his disposal. And don’t forget he more ties with the Rams (other than just losing a Superbowl to them).

No stadium yet

The other caviat to the downtown stadium is there must be a committment from a team to move there or the stadium will not start to be built. There is another stadium that is going to be built about 30 miles south of LA. That is where the Chargers will probably end up. The Chargers are on a year to year lease.

I Would Give The Edge

To The Rams in reagards to Fisher. The reason: The Rams have a QB in place.

KSR - I have moved on to Motrin PM

as it includes Ibuprofan that is certainly needed for my aging and weakening muscles.

I just listened to Demoff's Presser again, and I can't tell if Flajole was fired too? Thought?
he said the only coach under contract at this time is McD
Did anyone see our schedule for next year?

Home: packers, vikings, redskins, pats, jets

Away: bears, detroit, buccs, bills, dolphins.

Why do you all want fisher so badly?

If he was so great, why did he get canned. All HC are good. Some better than others or they would not be a HC. Let’s get who we get and start being competitive. I’ll settle for that at least. Tired of being the pussyass Rams. Let’s start punching fools in the mouth. GSOT is done. Never coming back. Time to move on.

he didnt get canned, he left
he left because him and adams (owner) couldnt work together...

adams believed in vince young, fisher didnt so adams made a choice…keep vince or fisher? jeff didnt want to give adams the satisfaction…so he left. and we all know how vince panned out, lol! adams lost both! what a jackass…

no, team had already decided that vy was gone

fisher was slated to return but after the team released a bunch of his assistants jeff decided to retire saying he needed a break from the game. i knew he would be back and felt he would only take a year off.

the titans are my 2nd choice (behind the rams of course) because i live in tn and they are on tv every sunday so i see them a lot.

Listen up Skunk ;) Fisher is hotly pursued because of his ability to spot talented players...

“and” develop them. Just check the following…

Developed an Oline that turned out a 2k yard rusher.
Turned out extremely physical defenses that were anywhere from solid to spectacular.
Great at finding excellent talent later in the draft: Roos, D. Stewart, Finnegan, A. Verner, J. McCourty, J. Jones, Tulloch, McRath…etc.
Don’t forget that he is the guy that reached on Chris Johnson in the first round of 08’. That is really a laughable idea now.

I want him just cause you dont lmfao
I'd like to bring up a previously suggested idea, here is our new coach, gm, and first round pick

just thought I’d lighten the mood

Jeff Fisher....

6 winning seasons in 17 years with Tenn/Houston

Does it scream “We have to have him!?”

and the other options.....
So he had 6 more wins than Spags in his first 3 years of being an HC and fielded competetive teams throughout his career... Is that what you're saying?
his first year was a 3rd of a season

he took over a team as an interim and then immediately got them to .500. thats what that looks like to me

and Doug, im back to posting pics

whats the over under on days till i get banned? haha

3-4 You'll be ok if you can find someone other than Kate :-)
hey, at least kate never pushes the censor

shes a safe post haha. i just need to find new pics then the ones RG31 and RamPage have been posting

also, he was playing in the Manning division
He kept his teams competitive in a division with Baltimore and Pittsburgh

Even in their weaker years, Tennessee wasn’t a lay down team. He did this without ever having a prototypical pure passer like Sam. He built pound ‘em out teams, something we’ll need facing the ascending teams (and defenses) of the NFC West.

As for the amount of winning seasons he has, I think it deserves perspective. His teams climbed in divisional rankings throughout most of his first five years, a challenge in said AFC Central. Then his team became dominant over the next 5, with only one losing season (7-9, aka our peak over the last five). They only fell off after that after the loss of Steve McNair. Still, he resurrected the career of Kerry Collins and brought them back to respectability within a year or so, once again climbing the rankings until his relationship with ownership fell apart and Vince Young was forced on him.

They’ve had as much of a run of winning the last decade as anyone, save for the Pats/Packers/Steelers type teams. And, he did this without any premier receivers, had often injured running backs, and a limited QB.

*And Indy....
and realizing that was a franchise not known for being great like the Pack and Steelers are

lets face it, this franchise isnt known for winning either

Agreed

Houston was “run and shoot” until he got on board. To keep a team identity for so long says a lot for the guy.

I remember wishing we had the same type of consistency during our schizophrenic last days of the GSOT and Linehan stretch.

agreed, during a down year with Jeff Fisher, id at least feel like i know hes done this before and that he can turn a team around

cause even in years when his team has spiraled out of control (not having McNair) he kept the team on track and true

I don't think they were sad-sack even in their losing seasons

They’d still smash you in the face and had the feel of a team regrouping.

Jeff Fishers teams were always respectable and tough they beat people up every game they played
FYI

McNair was injured half of 04’ and he wasn’t very good in 05’. That was McNair’s final year in Tennessee. Good to have some context.

Fisher's Record

Fisher may have had 6 winning seasons in 17 years but he only had 6 losing seasons in 17 years and 5 at 8-8. His record was 110-82 over his last 12 years. This seems to be better than 10-38.

Or

6 loising seasons in 17 years. Glass half full!

So

Whats our record in the same timespan? Just curious.

He had to be doing something right

to last 17 seasons! Sure beats a 10-38 record not to mention Spags 3 prior predecessors.

Would love to see Fisher in STL....I live in TN and the only local games I get are the Titans

so I have watched them since they moved to Nashville. Fisher is a great coach who doesnt take crap. The only problem I ever had with Fisher was that he ruined Vince Youngs career. He never was behind Young and really jerked him around, dont see that happening with Bradford because we really dont have a reliable option behing him but Fisher didnt handle the Vince Young situation very well. I think Fisher would be a good replacement compared to who is out there. Also found this on Rotoworld not sure if it interests anyone.

NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora confirms that the Rams “would like to retain” Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator.
Owner Stan Kroenke is a big McDaniels backer and wants to maintain stability in Sam Bradford’s develop even if the 2010 first-rounder took a step back in 2011. McD’s is no lock to remain in St. Louis, however, with a new GM and head coach on the way in.

i agree he handled vy badly

but vy was a bad egg before he got there. both of them screwed that one up. wont happen with Sam cause Sam and him will get along

I hope we keep McD.

Our O looked good the first handful of games until all the injuries piled up. We moved the ball well. And I’m not convinced all the nonsensical play calling was all on him since they rang similar to the nonsensical play calling the year before aka Spags’ control.

I was encouraged at our potential the first two games, and then again at Green Bay.

yeah, other than a lack of depth and less talent and Spags' control freakiness

it looked “ok” before sam got his ankle injury

I agree

We were eating up chunks of yards. Minus the drops, we could compete.

Personally I would love to Mcdaniels come back. In my opinion it would be a big setback to bring in another OC..

for Sam. I remember reading all the articles on how Sam is trying to pick up McD’s offense this offseason. He needs consistency, not a 3rd offense in 3 years. If they keep doing this to Sam it might end up ruining him in the long run. If they bring him back it would give Bradford one full year of it under his belt then a FULL offseason to pick up what isnt getting. I really hope they bring Mcdaniels back.

CAN McD FAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COME ON PEOPLE, get off the drugs………That was one of the worst OFFENSE displays EVER in the NFL.. And those were McD’s plays….Housewives could call such bad plays without a playbook…You RAM FANs really can’t want to go thru another "throw it to LLoyd " no matter what year…Amendola, Salas, Pettis and a top FA WR that works hard even when the pass is not to him, along with OL, DB, and RB help puts us abck in the NFL next season…Send the DIVA Lloyd packing with McD and move forward…….SAM comeback to your senses, McD’s offense was horrible…. how can you possibly want to be so dismal again by giving him a vote of confidence to remain the OC…….Please new HC bring your own OC so we can return to the NFL…because we were not an NFL team this year…thanks to McD & Spags !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's official

the st louis rams have accepted and invite to Conference USA

All the injuries last year and the players not executing is not all on McD...

Bradford was banged up most of the year. So you want to see another year with Bradford struggling to learn a new system? Just like this last year? I’m sorry but I dont want to see it again, I would rather bring McD back and have Bradford know the system. If you keep changing what system a QB is running he will never be comfortable with it. 3 systems in 3 years? Come on, thats ridiculous. With everyone getting canned do you think Bradford would go out on a limb and say he wanted McDaniels back if he didnt like or believe in the system he runs? You cant always blame the coaches, sometimes its the players on the field. Most of the year we were playing with our 2nd,3rd,and 4th stringers.

Keep McD IF

I’m willing to give McDaniels an offseason to work things out but we HAVE to have a QB coach to work with Sam or he’ll regress even more.

Keep him...

It would be nice to have the same OC for two years…I think Fisher will come here becuase i’m sure’ he’d rather coach Sam Bradford then Matt Moore…plus I believe that the Rams will choose Blackmon…gives us a WR corps with Blackmon, Lloyd, Amendola, and Alexander…should have a MUCH better offense next year

Dump McD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Denver fans laughed at us for hiring McD…Now our own fans are laughing at us for hiring McD….less than 20 total TOUCHDOWN as a TEAM….PLEASE run him out of St. Louis ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are WE RAM FANS really OKAY with LOUSINESS, because this years offensive play calling was flat out LOUSY…..somebody spray the RAM NATION with some wakeup juice cause if anyone wants McD back they have been asleep all season

just to put mcdelusional into perspective...

the rams had 18 touchdowns with 2870 passing yards, laurent robinson had 11 td and 858 yards…

Miami has better talent overall

Better Defense
Better WRs
Better O-line play

The only thing the Rams have over them are Steven Jackson & Sam Bradford. Miami needs less pieces.

better defense?

the rams are an olb and dt away from being top 10. healthy cbs would help. so would a better overall offense.

do it fisher

2 Justin Blackmon WR Oklahoma State
34 Nate Potter OT Boise State
66 Ryan Miller OG Colorado
97 Emmanuel Acho OLB Texas
161 Tydreke Powell DT North Carolina
193 Trevor Olson OT Northern Illinois
195 Tramain Thomas S Arkansas

Any love for Russ Grimm for HC

Could he do anything with Jason Smith?

He's been passed on too many times

Hes kinda like Jason Garret and Lezlie Frazier, a previously hot candidate who is just picked for simplicities sake at this point. How did those two do this year?

Jeff Fisher is the only experienced coach out there for this team...

Gruden looks like he’s gonna stay comfy in the studios for a while longer (and besides, he’s been doing it now for too long), and we’re not attractive enough a proposition for Cowher. Fisher wants to get back to coaching. He’s the guy who gave the Rams so many problems in both games during the Superbowl year. I’d welcome his appointment.
