2012 NFL Mock Draft: Two For The Price Of One?

Ohio State lineman Mike Adams (75) is the St. Louis Rams' pick in one mock draft. Where did he get those tattoos?

Terry Gilliam - AP

Ohio State lineman Mike Adams (75) is the St. Louis Rams' pick in one mock draft. Where did he get those tattoos?

Don Banks at SI.com rolled out his first 2012 NFL Mock Draft of the season on Friday. It reflects some of the reports out of Mobile, AL, this week at the Senior Bowl. As for the St. Louis Rams, Banks' mock draft offers something vaguely familiar, a trade.

Check it out after the jump.

Star-divide

Banks proposes a trade between the Cleveland Browns and the Rams. Cleveland swaps their fourth and 22nd pick to the Rams in exchange for the second pick and a shot at Robert Griffin III.

With the fourth pick, the Rams take Justin Blackmon ... of course.

If the Rams can swing this deal with the Browns and walk away with the draft's top receiver and Cleveland's pick at No. 22, what a wonderful world it will be in St. Louis at the start of the team's Jeff Fisher era. Sam Bradford and Blackmon were former rivals in Oklahoma, but I bet the Rams quarterback will make the rookie his new best friend.

And with the 22nd pick, the Rams take Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State.

This would be the other pick the Rams obtain from Cleveland in exchange for the No. 2 slot and the rights to RG III. St. Louis could opt for other fixes on the offensive line, like Wisconsin center Peter Konz or Georgia guard-tackle Cordy Glenn, but the Rams are desperate for help at offensive tackle with Jason Smith's status so uncertain and unreliable.

It's highly unlikely that Adams will be available here. His draft stock is red hot after his performance at the Senior Bowl this week. He didn't show the kind of consistency you might see from Matt Kalil, but he nevertheless flashed the tools that helped him beat some of the draft's best rushers this week.

In my mock draft at SB Nation this week, I proposed a similar scenario, except Stanford OT Jonathan Martin was the pick.

Banks mentions Cordy Glenn, and if was available in a scenario like this, he might be a smart pick. Glenn looked solid working on the blind side, but was an absolute beast at guard. If the Rams were to somehow land him, he could work at one of the tackle spots or allow the Rams to move Harvey Dahl to right tackle.

Based solely on this picture...

I love this guy

Damn it

I’m slipping into the Mike Adams crevasse and I need help. He can’t be flying up this fast because of one damn week, can he? Someone please talk some sense into me. I need a shot of crown or somethin.

I'll try.

Here’s a take from an Ohio State fan:

“Mike Adams would be a mediocre right tackle (maybe) and horrendous at left tackle. No idea what scouts are seeing. Against speed rushers with an ounce of get-up, he’s toast. Decent run blocker, but pass blocking is non existent. Hell, Ohio St had to scrap the pass 3 drives in vs. Illinois in large part because Adams couldn’t stop Mercilus. Made him look stupid. "

and as quickly as I grew to like him

I’m out

Thanks for the lifeline

Whew

We want Kalil

He supposed to be Jake Long 2.0. Thatd be freaking awesome.

don't worry

I won’t let us take him in the MTD live draft

I know I know

a little weakness there…….Alls good now. I know you won’t. Some names do some strange moving up and down draft boards this time of year, eh?

Keep this scenerio going and draft Zach Brown at #33

and I’ll be doing naked cartwheels down main street.

we're going steaking!

I knew you got my back.
not that there's anything WRONG with that
no, of course not!

……..were you going Seinfeld there? If not, disregard

lmao

love that movie

I'd rather have Peter Konz or David DeCastro than Blackmon

there…..I said it. I feel a wave of relief over my body. I want to draft nothing but Offensive line, Defensive tackles and LBs until we’re filled out at these places before we go to WRs. CBs or b/u RB or COPB.

that's the first step

congratulations

(Stands in front of closet with a proud look on his face)
too bad that as a Rams fan

sobriety is not an option

i'm not sure that I don't agree with you

double negs … BOOM!

cool......round for the house

on me

Crown Royal

The reason I don’t remember New Years..

The first time i drank

My asshole brother made me start off with a shot of southern comfort, no chaser. The second time I drank, he made me start off with a shot of crown, no chaser. I was 16 both times.

OK just so you aren't limiting our options ; )

All things being equal Blackmon is a better pick. What I don’t know is how good Blackmon will be in the NFL. I’ll leave that decision to trained scouts and coaches.

My opinion on O line is they’re trained not born. In other words I’m not so sure we don’t already have most if the raw materials for a solid line. Unfortunately with WR the reality that you can train them… not so much.

Let’s see how free agency goes before we get too far down any one road.

I pretty much agree good sir
Draft....

Did we not hear the same things about Jason Smith prior to the 2009 draft? And about Alex Barron a few years back?
I say go after the top offensive lieman in the draft. Kalil proved himself last year and this year all season. Look at the tape Rams brass. Not just ONE senior Bowl practice. What senior isn’t about trying to improve his draft stock at the Senior Bowl so that he’ll make more money once his contract comes across the table? Not a true indicator of his talents, energy, dedication, smarts, high motor, and nastiness at the line.

Blackmon didnt prove himself?

I guess winning college football’s top WR award two years straight doesn’t mean anything.

Blackmon is the best player in the draft and will have the best career.

EXACTLY

We have to stop being taken by the guys with tons of potential but didnt play up to it in college. Fuck that. Lets get Kalil who is already a freaking hoss.

So I see Brad Childress is the new OC in Cleveland

hope he loves him some RG3

So, what it the Vikings take Blackmon

Kalil at 4 and then offensive linemen at 22??

I think the Combine is going to trash all these draft prognostication

The Combine is going to have more eyes on it than any year since it became a public spectacle

If we got Kalil and Decastro I would shat myself
Or shart yourself?

Gotta love the two for one special.

this

will not happen. if kalil is available at 3 the vikes will take him. wide reciever is seen more as a need that could be fufilled via FA

Justin Blackmon?

whats with the mocks obsession with Rams and Justin Blackmon?

For some reason they think we need help at WR

It’s like they’re not even watching our games!

lol touche

I just remember thinking throughout the college football season how I wanted Alshon Jeffery because it seemed like Jeffery/Blackmon were on par with each other and eventually resigning to Kalil/Martin because the Rams were sucking so badly. I’m just not feeling Blackmon as a future All-Pro receiver I guess.

I have a bad feeling that Blackmon

is Dez Bryant ll. Coming into the draft with a whole lot of attitude and and a 2010 DUI arrest before he is even drafted. I wasn’t a big fan of the 4 Pillar thing, but this just seems too high a pick for this quality of individual. At that bowl game, I was seeing a player that, although he did have a great game, was less about TEAM and more about ME.

I see Blackmon as average in size and speed for a NFL WR, I like begger faster WR's I dont want Blackmon
Orlando Pace played out of Ohio State

i recall him being alright lol

right but Adams isn't Pace lol
Not even close to the same player
I'm not going with an OT at 2 or 4

On Jim Hanifan said that the Rams have too very talented bookend tackles. If they coached them up to use proper technique and kept them healthy, the Rams could have one of the better OT pairs in the NFL. no offense to anyone here, but I think Hanifan knows a thing or two about offensive line talent. Now health is still a big if, but you don’t spend a number 2 to replace a number 2 at this stage in his career. Give him time to develop and use that pick for the best playmaker available. I don’t know if Blackmon is worth #4, but I’d take him at 4, plus BPA at 22 over another OT at 2. Just an opinion.

No offense taken you have company

This is turning into Suh vs Bradford, all over again.

Thank you

Seems like a difference of opinion can spawn some harsh words arounds these parts. It’s sort of silly considering we have no power over who eventually gets drafted, and draft orders will reshuffle over and over between combine and pro days. Glad to have a level
headed response. I appreciate it

Damn I was thinking the same thing

Regarding how this is turning into a Sam vs Suh time thing..

Agree about the coaching but

concussions aren’t broken bones. They keep coming back and his next one could end his season/career. I don’t think we can risk it. What happens when he’s out after game 2? I’ve also read Smith doesn’t have the heart to play in the NFL but take that for what its worth.

Hanifan can say what he wants

but the stats don’t support his claim. Unrealized potential is cold, hard reality. Jason Smith is not, was not, and will not be a NFL caliber OT. No matter who coaches him. He could possibly be a good OG. Saffold didn’t play as well against stepped up competition. He is definitely a NFL caliber OT, maybe just not a blind side OT. I wonder if the Rams’ QBs thought that they had one of the better OT pairs if only they had better coaching?

Speaking of the OL ...

didn’t the Titans let Bell walk before ? We need a LG & an all American Center. Let’s fix this OL once and for all !

Is that all we get from Cleveland?

Just their 4th and 22nd pick in the 1st round?

I would expect the Rams to get more than that if it comes down to a bidding war with so many other teams that will be drulling at the prospect of getting RG III once the Colts Whisk Andrew Luck off the board.

In MHO I think teams get desperate when the reality hits them…RG III is sitting right there, waiting to be selected… and they think “Hey, we have a chance here. We could get a bonifide franchise Quarterback and if we pass up this opportunity we will be passing up on a chance to get a truly gifted athelete who has all the qualities to become one of the true elite Quarterbacks in the league”.

Go Rams!

I want a pro bowl OL in place the next two years
