About a year ago, I asked our battalion (or have we entered brigade status?) of readers what they thought the biggest needs for the Rams were with the 2010 season behind us.
It's that time again.
After the jump, you'll find a form where you rank each position from 1-10 (10 meaning we desperately need help, 1 meaning no changes are needed whatsoever).
How do you grade the Rams offensive tackles? Rodger Saffold has the look of a capable young player, but should Jason Smith be in the team's long-term plans? Guard and center are also going to be interesting positions to analyze?
How about defensive tackles and outside linebackers? Are they both 10's? I'll definitely be watching how the safety votes come in...
What about the specialists? Do Donnie Jones and Josh Brown still deserve our confidence?

im really confused on how to fill this out
are we ranking them each individually on whether that need is a level 1-10
and is 1 the least and 10 the most needed or is it like…oh thats our number 1 need, this is our 2nd need etc..
Lexxi - January 26, 2012
nvm i guess i missed the jump? or maybe i got here before it was redone lol
Lexxi - January 26, 2012
10 meaning we desperately need help, 1 meaning no changes are needed whatsoever
So if you’re good with our DE rotation, that’s a 1. If you think we need 2-3 new outside linebackers, that’s a 8, 9 or 10
3k - January 26, 2012
Hey
3k, I graded mine with 10 being we need no help and 1 needing lots of help. Sorry!
I confused myself. That cool?
KeSt - January 26, 2012
can you go ahead and re-do it?
Cause once we get a ton of responses, I come up with some data sets. If you want yours included, it’d be easiest to just re-do your answers.
3k - January 26, 2012
This is one of those Florida polls, isn't it?
Douglas M - January 26, 2012
I'd mention hanging chads
but I’m not going commando today
3k - January 26, 2012
A quick off top question?
I’ve read we will have $40 mil in CAP in 2013, and have $10 mil now?
Can we make deals with FAs that pay say the league minimum this year, and more next year so we can access some of the 2013 CAP room now?
Douglas M - January 26, 2012
Now your thinkin like a democrat
atta boy
dbcouver - January 26, 2012
What do you think about picking guys off the wire this time of year?
Remember him. I’d take him as the first in a series of open door experiments this off season. Played his ass off at Pitt, just hasn’t found his nitch yet.
dbcouver - January 26, 2012
What about Jackie Slater's kid in New England? He's an FA this year
Douglas M - January 26, 2012
can he block like his Pa
I’ll take him then. We don nee no stankin safeties though.
dbcouver - January 26, 2012

samtheram8 - January 26, 2012

samtheram8 - January 26, 2012
dannys is...
going to be in the uk for the superbowl to try generating some interest in the wembley game
samtheram8 - January 26, 2012
I think a return guy is something that we've been missing and it's been overlooked IMO
That cheerleader didn’t do that hot, Danny wasn’t exactly lights out and that Hood guy had a TD but other than that hasn’t done anything.
sergey606 - January 26, 2012
I hear we can get Williams cheap!
OakCityRam - January 26, 2012
which williams?
sergey606 - January 26, 2012
49ers ball dropper
OakCityRam - January 26, 2012
I don't think they're letting him go. Isn't he just a Rook and could be a decent WR and returner
Though I heard he has concussion problems
sergey606 - January 26, 2012 via mobile
I was just joking dude
OakCityRam - January 26, 2012
looking at last yrs needs...
im a little sick that none of those needs were addressed. dahl was a great addition to the line, but i didnt expect the others to perform so poorly that it would require another addition.
unleash-the-beast#39 - January 26, 2012 via mobile
actually they "addressed" the needs
We needed an OLB, they signed Pop and forgot who else…but they didn’t do that well.
We needed a RB, they signed Caddy-fumble and Norwoody.
We needed a OL, they got Dahl, which was the only good sign.
So IMO it wasn’t that they didn’t address them, they just signed some shit FAs
sergey606 - January 26, 2012
guess i should have said that they didnt “successfully” address those needs, and hear we are a yr later still needing help at all those positions…sigh….
unleash-the-beast#39 - January 26, 2012 via mobile
and that other sack of crap called an olb was ben leber
unleash-the-beast#39 - January 26, 2012 via mobile
Oh yeah
I guess I was too busy not remembering his name
sergey606 - January 26, 2012 via mobile
got him mixed up with the other Ben
Dover
dbcouver - January 26, 2012
i just saw the most depressing news in my life as a rams fan
rams had the worst value at offensive lineman in NFL HISTORY. not sure if it was just someone’s opinion or if it was calculated… but the guy i talked to made it sound like their were stats to show this… dam
Ram_Redemption - January 26, 2012
Wouldn't doubt it at all.
We had one of the highest paid O lines, with one of the worst outcomes. I don’t even know how it’s possible to fail so hard.
DuhhhRams! - January 26, 2012
Coaching
mcihaelT - January 27, 2012
Jordan Poyer.
sergey606 - January 26, 2012 via mobile
I definitely think we could use a new punter and kicker
Donnie has definitely regressed and Brown can’t hit the broad side of a barn. Drop both of them and go cheap
clwxz5 - January 26, 2012
I felt a lot better about this team until I filled that out.
Only four positions graded at a 4 or lower, and one of them was Kicker!
Joe Mazzi - January 26, 2012
LB,DE and QB?
Douglas M - January 26, 2012
Exactly. I think I had more 9's and 10's than < 5's.
I REALLY want a new starter at DT or OLB taken in the 2nd round.
Joe Mazzi - January 26, 2012
I gave Mikell a 3. He had a solid year that would have been waaaay better if the CBs weren't adding to his work load
Douglas M - January 26, 2012
Would you consider him the FS or SS? I could never tell with they way Spags shuffled them around.
I just lumped them together and said 5 for both.
Joe Mazzi - January 26, 2012
Dahl and Butler drag the whole scale down.
Joe Mazzi - January 26, 2012
+1111 Totally agree
Dahl is good in run situations, but in pass coverage he’s a slower safety version of Justin King.
Douglas M - January 26, 2012
I'd say Mikell is FS. I gave SS a 10
Douglas M - January 26, 2012
he is a FS
I gave a SS a high one too
sergey606 - January 26, 2012
Why don't you do a post on SS and FS possible picks?
SS, once again, one of our biggest D needs
Douglas M - January 26, 2012
Where does Darian Stewart fit in?
I like that kid. I’d be happy with Stewart and Mikell as our safeties going into next year.
DuhhhRams! - January 26, 2012
Ditto.
Stewart will never be a top safety in the league, but I think he’s serviceable enough that we can focus on some other positions.
Joe Mazzi - January 26, 2012
I also agree about Stewart
He’s the one bright spot from the Spags regime, besides the obvious names
sergey606 - January 26, 2012
I know I will probably get ripped, but I'm not ready to give up on Josh Brown yet.
I mean he watched the QB get the crap knocked out of him play after play. I’d be nervous and screw up kicks too. He was good in the past. Lets see what the new staff can do with him.
David5264 - January 26, 2012
You are probably right. I think many may have graded them lower more by salary than performance
The urge to find more CAP room by going to cheaper ST alternatives is a valid one
Douglas M - January 26, 2012
I agree, but we have nothing to lose by keeping him another year.
Next year is where we will have a bunch of cap money clear and I would really rather build on that egg and get a few big name F.A’s next year to compliment this years draft.
David5264 - January 26, 2012
Biggest Need...
…is a Strength and Conditioning Coach! Our IR team could have beaten our starting team this year!!
GothamKnight - January 26, 2012
How many times do I getta vote?

dbcouver - January 26, 2012

Pretty sure jswirb took over chop's duties.
But at least ’chop wrote lengthy write-ups and replied to our comments.
sergey606 - January 26, 2012

use spaces in between terrible points, or
CAPSLOCK, OR
strikethrough, ormispelings?
DCRamFan - January 26, 2012
he used CAPS i know that
he made similar points to nastradouche, no strikethroughs though and sometimes meespeling stuf, but who doesn’t
sergey606 - January 26, 2012

sergey606 - January 26, 2012 via mobile
Does anyone think Illinois Mike is ever going to be healthy?
Will he be a Ram in 2012? Do you want him to be a Ram in 2012?
DCRamFan - January 26, 2012
When he retires. Not sure anymore, depending on FA and Draft. I want to want him, but not sure anymore – I’m sure he’ll tear it up on the next team he’s on.
sergey606 - January 26, 2012
unfortunately, I don't think we can anticipate him staying healthy
He’s serviceable for half a season at best. I’m not sure if Fisher/Schotty plan on using 2 TE sets or not, but if they do I’d like to see us get someone in FA. Drafting someone, in my opinion, isn’t a priority, but I think that a solid TE (assuming they want 2) in FA could make a big impact on our offense……… if in fact we have an offense in 2012
DCRamFan - January 26, 2012
Dude, we were supposed to use this "2 TE set" under McD
besides NE, no one uses it IMO, or at least can’t use it. Kendricks and some TE in the later rounds or FAs (that aren’t Finley or other spendy ones) are the ones we’ll keep. Shit, I thought Bajema could block, he couldn’t even do that well this year.
sergey606 - January 26, 2012
Unfortunately, the dude's got "UhOh" written all over him..
Joe Mazzi - January 26, 2012
Never get into politics on FB, god damnit.

ramdude - January 26, 2012

11 as in one more than 10
The item of greatest needs
ramdude - January 26, 2012
my aplogies
these Fat Tire Amber Ales are delicious. Though I did not see a ‘wins next season’ category above, the aforementioned brew allowed my mind to wander freely. I’m gonna go drive now
