The St. Louis Rams added Kellen Clemens late in the season as something of a desperation move. Sam Bradford was hobbled by his high ankle sprain. A.J. Feeley, the backup, had a broken thumb. It was practice squad QB Tom Brandstater and nothing else.
Clemens made three starts for the Rams. He completed 48 of 91 passes for 546 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He had a rating of 73.8, which was the highest of any Rams quarterback last season. Clemens earned some praise for his work since he was playing behind an offensive line missing most of its already mediocre starters.
His admirable play already had some talking about the possibility of re-signing him for 2012. That possibility got big boost from the Rams new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Clemens, 28, got his start in the league with the Jets. A second-round pick in 2006, his time there coincided with Brian Schottenheimer's stint as the offensive coordinator.
In his conference call with the media yesterday, Schotty made his feeling about Clemens perfectly clear.
"I'm a big fan of Kellen," Schottenheimer said. "We were involved in the drafting of Kellen a couple years back out of Oregon. He truly did a great job for us. I think our second year there he was forced into playing some and did a terrific job."
About the possibility of bringing him back to St. Louis ...
"It does not surprise me that he came in here and played well for us here with the Rams last year because he takes his craft, he takes his profession very, very seriously and he works at it," Schottenheimer said. "Again, we'll look at all the decisions and things like that as we go, but I'm a big fan of Kellen's."
That sounds like a pretty staunch endorsement. With Feeley's contract up and him being a vestigial backup from two offensive systems ago, he's not likely to stick around in 2012. Clemens is a free agent as well. It's unlikely his three starts with the Rams will make him a hot commodity on the market. The Rams could sign him to a bargain basement deal, bring him in to compete, and not be too attached should they find a better option. Of course, with Bradford learning the ins and outs of another offense, having Clemens around could be a big help, similar to the way Feeley was in Bradford's rookie season.

Clemens makes a better back-up than AJ, the latter shouldn't even be allowed on the field and he somehow beat the saints :/

I agree.
from looking at Clemens stats, I’m assuming Schottenheimer is talking about 2007 and he’s right, although I might choose a different term than “terrific”, he did do a pretty decent job as a fill in.

hell he looked more confident out there than Sam was at the end of the season

He didn't have enough games
to be beat to death, thanks to the open door policy 0-Line.

Agree
Clemens to train Bradford on Schotty system and is an adequate back-up. Sorry AJ, thanks for your services.

I was told last night
By a very wise ‘masters’ owner that we should draft RG3 and keep Sam. If that’s the case, and clearly it is, I think we can afford to let Kellen go, as sad as that makes me

haha, well can't argue with that, if he gets that GED he'll be god.
he’s sofa king full of himself; I’m gonna start calling him Nastradouchebag.

Yes, let's sign Kellen Clemens
as our backup, cut loose A.J. and draft another Kellen (Moore) in the 7th round as our third QB.
RamTeaPartier - January 25, 2012
We will keep him.
He will help Bradford learn the new offense. And you can’t go wrong with duck backup qbs.
fearsomefoursum - January 25, 2012
i hate the ducks.
sergey606 - January 25, 2012

Wish Kelly left :(
sergey606 - January 25, 2012
Im sure well resign kellen.. i just hope they do whats right for the team in the draft.
And were not 4sure if llyod will stick around. And I know are oline is bad but are wr without llyod are worse so draft blackmon n then an oline. And then get the best cb and oline men avalible in freeagents
Ramzman18 - January 25, 2012 via mobile
Clemens as the back up.
I think he is a better backup them A.J. Freely is not very mobile and has happy feet from getting his ass kicked all those years. It would be nice if Llloyd stays around also. With a good draft the RAMS could win 8 games this year.
California Mobile CPR - January 25, 2012
Agreed
Kellen Clemens coincidentally being in that Shotty offense all that time, and now the opportunity to have him in STL to pass it on to Bradford, awesome. Hopefully they sign him, and hopefully it pays off as presumed it should. Still though, the new QB coach and a third QB (Tom B) will be needed.
SooneRams Fan - January 25, 2012
A better fit
than A.J. for the situation. Will be very helpful to the yound receivers and tight ends about where the spacing onroutes is supposed to be. A.J. played well but Clemens was a little better. I think they are very similar players. Truthfully I think that A.J. has a slightly higher ceiling, but I think he needs to be a starter to get the rhythm. I would look to Denver for A.J. Tebow will probably need to get hurt before he really embraces getting rid of the ball faster. Should be a good opportunity for A.J. to play regularly.
JD70-79 - January 25, 2012
yes.....
with the new OC he could push Bradford even more
