The conference championships may not be until tomorrow, but draft season is in full flight.
The East-West Shrine Game (NFL Network, 4pm ET) and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl (NBC Sports, NOT NBC, 6pm ET) are both on tap today, featuring dozens of day 2 and day 3 prospects. You might want to just keep the rosters open during the game to be able to check jersey numbers (Shrine Game, Collegiate Bowl). And the Mocking the Draft game notes are always a must read (Shrine Game).
Neither game provides prospects on par with the Senior Bowl (next Sunday), but they're showcases nonetheless and could help a couple players jump up a few rounds.
After the jump, some notes and my players to watch.

As Dan noted in the MTD notes, the last two contests have featured four second-rounders, so there's talent to be scouted here. More interesting is that the Shrine Game is the first look scouts have of Canadian players versus American competition.
The most notable Canadian import this year is DT Akiem Hicks, a former LSU Tiger signee who ran aground of NCAA violations related to housing and finished his collegiate career in Regina. Keep an eye out for him today.
Along with Hicks, the East team has two of the more notable WRs in today's game - Michigan St.'s BJ Cunningham and (calm thyself, Brick Top) Illinois' AJ Jenkins. Cunningham exploded in his senior year, exceeding his sophomore and junior yardage totals combined. Jenkins, leaner and faster, had a similar jump in production in his final year. Of course that lean frame comes at an expense - he's just not strong enough to force his way into certain situations. His ceiling is somewhere in the Brandon Lloyd range, but he'll need to find a system that allows him to work as many zone routes as possible.
Lastly, get a look at Baylor NT Nicolas Jean-Baptiste. He's got a monstrous frame, and without a sufficient bowl game performance, he'll need a strong showing to help him get back into the early day 3 mix.
On the West, Rams fans should definitely be eying Arkansas WR Jarius Wright and Iowa CB Shaun Prater. Jarius Wright might be a great value consolation prize for teams who miss out on Baylor WR Kendall Wright. He's not the most athletic or crisp wideout, but you can't teach pure speed. And Jarius Wright's teammate, WR Greg Childs, has to show scouts he can stay healthy throughout the draft process to warrant a day 3 grade - keep that name in mind, Rams fans.
Prater's a nice physical corner who tackles well and plays smart defense, though limited by a lack of athleticism. Given their alma maters, Bradley Fletcher would be a decent comp...except that Fletcher's a good two inches and ten pounds bigger.
Another name on the West team that should be of interest to Rams fans is Wisconsin FS Aaron Henry. He's got a solid nose for the ball and looks comfortable as a help defender for cornerbacks.
I'll update this story with some info in a little bit. Gotta put the daughter to nap.

Does anyone know the answer to this?
I asked this question in an earlier post and got some good replies but didn’t actually get an answer so I’ll ask again here.
Who will be going to the Senior Bowl and the East West Shrine Bowl to check out the college draft candidates? The HC, OC and DC? They are hardly in the front door and don’t even have thier offices in order yet.
So? Who goes to check out all the college ?
Nbr1RamFan - January 21, 2012
Demoff announced a name of a person and department that would be scouting
when he had the press conference after firing Devaney and Spags. I wasn’t sure if it was an outside service or what though.

Scouting staff
The Rams have (around) 8 scouts on staff, so there are plenty of paid employees to scout the practices, workouts & games

sigh... while I am surrounded by 49ers fans going crazy,
I get to scout the east west shrine game

Looking Forward
To watching CB Chris Greenwood from Albion. It will be interesting to see how he matches up against a higher grade of competition.
OLB Ronnie Thorton from Southern Miss is playing on the West team along with Greenwood.
That Eas team has that CB Josh Norman. He had a good week of practice from all indications.
OG Rishaw Johnson along with Akiem Hicks and Nicolas Jean Baptiste will be prospects I pay atention to. Baptiste is pretty athletic for being over 320. He had a few PBU and a blocked PAT for Baylor.

NFLPA Game
A few players I want to see in this one:
WR Demarlo Belcher, Indiana. A big WR who was dismissed from the team.
CB Kee-Ayre Griffin, Temple
DT Chigbo Anunoby, Morehouse
WR Jared Green, Southern
C Scott Wedige, Northern Ill
OG Brandon Washington, Miami
CB Cameron Chism, Maryland
ValdezY - January 21, 2012
Does Fisher place a bigger importance on OLB's than Spags?
looking at Tank Carder
loyal2therams - January 21, 2012
I doubt it
Just not terribly important in most 4-3 systems against the pass.
3k - January 21, 2012
yeah I guess it could still be worth a mid round pick
considering our troubles against the run. We are probably stronger against the pass with the CB’s back.

I hate all those bracelets he wears, therefore he's not good :/

Lance Kendrikcs, please please develop
loyal2therams - January 21, 2012
I think Kendricks is going to be a solid pro TE...
He had a rough RC year but everyone did. I think this next year he will break out and be the player we drafted him to be.
jpcisco - January 21, 2012
Man, B.J. Coleman looked good...
I know we dont need a QB, but as a Tennessean I like seeing the local guys succeed. I think Kiper has him as a 5th or 6th round selection, would like to see him get a chance at the next level. It sounds like he had a pretty good week of practice as well.
jpcisco - January 21, 2012
haha the west's punter's name is Laurent Robinson?
loyal2therams - January 21, 2012

were you a bull rider?
…you know my address :)
sergey606 - January 21, 2012
No, just made the bad decision to hold to a roof when a scaffold fell
My doctor said I would have been better off breaking a leg or two. But 30 feet up, and a split second to decide…
The wierd part is the injury happened in a fraction of a second and I didn’t know I was hurt till I started climbing down the ladder my buddy slide under me. When I got to the ground, my arm stopped working.
Douglas M - January 21, 2012
Hey a Rams fan at the NFLPA Bowl!!
dbcouver - January 21, 2012 via mobile
How do they choose the players for this game? What criteria do they use?
Douglas M - January 21, 2012

Shrine Game
The OG Rishaw Johnson looked dominate. OLT Matt Reynolds did a nice job of protecting the QB.Jarius Wright ran great routes to beat his defenders. Those double moves were excellent. Bobby Rainey ran strong. Najee Goode had a nice game. BJ Coleman looked solid and in command throughout the game. OG Brandon Brooks , Miami(Ohio) played great as well.
