Its official: Steve Spagnuoulo and Billy Devaney have been fired by the St. Louis Rams after a disappointing 2-14 season.
Kevin Demoff, the Rams' Executive Vice President of Football Operations & Chief Operating Officer, held a press conference announcing their releases.
Taking over personnel decisions and scouting in the interim will be Vice President of Player Personnel Mike Williams.
The organization has a short list of possible candidates for both the GM and head coaching positions, but they haven't scheduled any interviews. Former Rams head coach Dick Vermeil and Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk have been recruited to help on the selection process.
As far as the coaching staff goes, all will be gone by February, when their respective contracts end. The only exception is Josh McDaniels - he is under contract through next year. Both McD and the Rams will take their due diligence to peruse their options. At the end, the new head coach will be deciding on his coaching staff.
It's been a busy day, worthy of a look back at all that happened.

EddieP - January 2, 2012
rex ryans brother
for hc?
Rando - January 2, 2012
That dude is no better than Spags
Does not adjust his losing strategy during the game – just keeps doing stuff that doesn’t work. The results have been there for everybody to see.

Heres the latest rumor.
The St. Louis Rams hope to hire former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher along with a young general manager, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network who cites league sources.
The Rams have had Fisher atop their wish list for a head coach for some time as a replacement for Steve Spagnuolo, who was fired, along with GM Billy Devaney on Monday.
Several league sources indicates that the Rams have compiled a list of general manager candidates that includes up-and-coming personnel names, with the goal being to hire Fisher, have him participate in the interviewing process of the general manager and form a tandem that would satisfy the veteran coach.
According to the sources, Atlanta’s Les Snead, Kansas City’s Ray Farmer, Seattle’s Will Lewis and Tennessee’s Lake Dawson are among the top candidates for the position, with Dawson having worked with Fisher when he was coach of the Titans. Rams Chief Operating Officer Kevin Demoff is involved in the process with owner Stan Kroenke, and has been helping to put together candidates.
Da Rams! - January 2, 2012
I would be happy with Fisher
but we do need someone to bring some pop and stability to our O so the OC would be an important hire
gorams77 - January 3, 2012
I just hope it happens quick. Would love to have a coach in place before
the superbowl.
David5264 - January 2, 2012
Dolphins and Rams to interview Fisher this week.
Da Rams! - January 2, 2012
Sweet. Is there some type of minimum? Don't they have to interview a
minority or something like that per league rules?
David5264 - January 2, 2012
The Rooney Rules still in place.
Fortunately ALL teams interested in hiring coaches and managers must interview minority candidates, not just the Rams. Level playing field.
Da Rams! - January 2, 2012
some rules just seem stupid,
i have nothing against minorities, interview the people who benefit the program most, dont waste time with people who wont. i dont care if it happens to be everyone you interview is a minority or no one is.
Rando - January 2, 2012
The Rooney rule is why Tomlin is a coach
They were gonna hire Russ Grimm, but Tomlin wowed them in the interview. Shows it does have a reason. They only talked to Tomlin cause of the rule. As for our minority candidate: WHY NOT ZOIDBERG?!?!
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
YEAH!
Why not Zoidberg?
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
affirmative action!!!!!!
only 6% of college coaches are of color though, so I think there is some bias in the football world that necessitates this rule.
loyal2therams - January 3, 2012
Finally some agreement!
King Sam Rules! - January 3, 2012 via mobile
peyton manning is surprised by the colts firing...
if the colts draft luck what is the chance manning requests a trade/follows the polians (not saying that would be in ANY way to the rams, although bradford learning from him would be awesome it isnt realistic.)
Rando - January 2, 2012
I thought he already said he would ask for a trade if they draft Luck
ChrisL951 - January 3, 2012
there were rumors,
but i dont know how true they were, if they were based off of any facts, i feel like it just gained some steam..
Rando - January 3, 2012
gaah blackmon is terrible if you import him to madden
he is a 73 overall with B potential and fumbles literally once in three catches
loyal2therams - January 3, 2012
I was wondering that today
Rando - January 3, 2012 via mobile
Yeah, and madden thought Gerald McCoy was better than Sug
Ans that Colt McCoy was as good as Sam or Matt Ryan
King Sam Rules! - January 3, 2012 via mobile
*suh
King Sam Rules! - January 3, 2012 via mobile
I hope to God we hire Bill Polian
He did a great job at Indy. Frankly I think someone hit the panic button over there. One bad year without their QB and the ax falls? I don’t think so, that team has put together some wins in recent years
JordansDad - January 3, 2012 via mobile

JordansDad - January 3, 2012 via mobile
