St. Louis Rams COO and Executive Vice President of Football Operations Kevin Demoff just wrapped up a Monday afternoon press conference discussing the next steps following the firings of Steve Spagnuolo and Billy Devaney. As expected, Demoff fielded a number of questions concerning the replacements for those two, contradicting a number of items from the rumor mill.
Demoff denied a report from Peter King that the Rams already have a mid-week interview scheduled with Jeff Fisher. He said that the Rams have not yet spoken with any potential candidates for either position. Demoff laughed off the suggestion from the rumor mill that Fisher was a fit for the Rams job because he's represented by Marvin Demoff, Kevin's father.
"We're going to find the right fit for the Rams," Demoff said.
Nevertheless, he did not rule out Fisher as a candidate, or any other potential candidate for the job. Demoff stressed that the main goal was finding the right fit for the organization. He added that the right candidates would be "adaptable, smart football people" for both the coach and GM positions. There is also no formula as far as the order in which they hire a head coach and general manager; any suggestions otherwise are mere speculation.
The search process gears up in full force this week. While the Rams do not currently have any interviews lined up, they will begin that process within the next 48 hours.
Owner Stan Kroenke will be heavily involved in the hiring process. He'll get some help from a pair of Rams legends, Super Bowl-winning head coach Dick Vermeil and Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk. Those two will be part of a team of consultants involved in the search process.
"We're serious about getting this right," Demoff said of the changes taking place at Rams Park. "We're serious about building a winning tradition in St. Louis."

Love this
Get good football minds in on a brain storm
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
I don't think the fans would agree, but Martz was a decent coach
and he should get a second chance somewhere. However, I think Fisher is the top choice, but he goes to the Colts. Who will they interview for the Rooney rule?
Jcrew1179 - January 2, 2012
Idk, I think that's why we are trying to act like Fish isn't already packing his bags in a way, cause I think he ends up here, not dealing wit the Peyton Luck disaster
Guess the Giants DC, the one every one talks to for the RR. Maybe Mel Tucker or Raheem Morris, who I’d look at as DC’s, with Mel Tucker as my top choice at DC
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
I think the Faulk thing is interesting
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
He's a good football mind
Think it’s good to know what he thinks
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
well why not Warner or Bruce then
why Faulk
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Why not Faulk?
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
I get mad at Faulk many times because he seems to try and distance himself from the franchise
but he is probably a great choice to be involved
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Doesn't seem to be trying to distance himself now if he's willing to help this team like this.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
True
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Fauld said we'd go 10-6 this year..
and very much sounded like a koolaid drinker..much to my delight :)
Bralidore - January 2, 2012
He doesn't seem to distance himself from the Rams as much as Warner seems to do Brick
JoolzMF - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Warner may come around later, but Martz and by extension the Rams really screwed Warner royally.
We know now from that NFL Network show that Vermiel made martz take warner as the backup because he just had a feeling about him. Martz rode his ass but I think never liked warner. So when warner had that complicated thumb injury it was all martz needed to bench him for Bulger and not look back.
So I can see why he would like the Cardinals more than the Rams. Wisenhunt sat their franchise quarterback to give Warner his chance and stood behind him every step of the way.
leadhead - January 2, 2012
Because Faulk is one
of the best football minds.
J.E.T.music - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Summarizes what I said below
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
I think that his great football mind is highly overrated
great football minds don’t work for the NFL Network IMO
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Maybe that's just what he likes doing
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
So your saying Kurt Warner isn't a great football mind though you asked why isn't he helping this team the way Faulk and Vermiel are?
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
I'm not saying I don't want Faulk to be involved or that he isn't a smart football guy
but I’m asking why him but not Kurt or Bruce?
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Fuck I don't know.
Bruce is too busy preaching and Kurt needs to get his golf game going.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
I think Kurt is still butt hurt that they cut him when he sucked and they had another Pro Bowl qb
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Maybe they got other shit going on..
Why not Holt? Why not Andy Mccolum? Geeze they don’t come in a package deal.
Bralidore - January 2, 2012
Well gee
It’s not like the Rams (and their fans) deemed they were completely worthless as football players anymore and ran them out of town or anything.
Why would Warner or Holt (Or Bruce) want to come back to a team that showed no loyalty to them?
DiscoJer - January 2, 2012
i know right !
J.E.T.music - January 2, 2012 via mobile
I always forget Kurt's on NFL Network
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
I guess
everyone on the GSOT is wrong then because to a man they will te;ll you they have nebver been around a guy that knows the game like he does.
RWRAMS28 - January 2, 2012
Faulk is smarter IMO
Peyton will admit that Faulk is a huge reason for his success as a young qb cause it was like having a coach next to him at all times. I’m not saying he gets hired (nor do I really want him to be except maybe as Rb coach), but he’s clearly the most intelligent Ram great.
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
So he knows x's and o's but what does he know about leading men and choosing people to lead men
Warner and Bruce were the leaders of our team in the GSOT days
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
He's still smarter, that's worth something
He has an input, not a say
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
So was Faulk?
J.E.T.music - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Faulk will tell you strait up Kurt was the leader
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
whats the issue here? seriously?
Faulk has an amazing grasp of every offensive position and how defenses work.
He also serves as a link to the past.
And if you don’t think Marshall was one of the leaders on that team your delusional.
Bralidore - January 2, 2012
agreed!
hell, marshall was the one barking out the defensive formations to kurt behind him, faulk knew what was coming before anybody else on that offense! the dude is brilliant!
Mark Jaramillo - January 2, 2012
Bruce wants to coach. Warner likes what he's doing now.
This just has Faulk written all over it.
Joe Mazzi - January 2, 2012
Marshal is one of the smartest players to ever play the game not just a super star player but knows every aspect of the game of football
Rammon105 - January 2, 2012
Bill Polian anybody?
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
HELL FUCKING NO
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Why not?
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
What has he done besides drafting the best player ever Peyton Manning?
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Reggie, Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis
Ill keep going if needed
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Devanny hired guys of that caliber too and everyone wanted him gone
he never built a good offensive line and the defense is always one of the worst in the league
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Devaney did not find guys of that level
Reggie over his career runs circles around all our recievers combined. Dwight and Mathis are all around DE’s, Long and Quinn both struggle in run defense
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Dwight and MAthis aren't all around guys
the Colts are always one of the worst run defending teams. and JL55 is a blue chip quality player like Reggie
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
There DT's suck
But all the advanced stats will tell you how much better in run defense their ends are then the Rams. And let’s see JL do it a little while longer before we call him any where near as good as Reggie
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Recently Indy has had a very good overall D
By recently I mean the past few seasons
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Help win indy a super bowl and find them tons of pro bowl talent
and build a dominant bills team in the 90’s
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
I'm finding lots of reasons to like him
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
I attribute the SB to Manning
and the talent played great with Manning but can’t do shit without him
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
He lost the Lebron of the leave
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Who got Manning?
The team was built around Manning though but I blame the coaching for that more. They had no good QB to take over if Manning got injured and the defense was built to play with a lead and bring pressure.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Best player ever?
RG31 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Arguably.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
In my opinion....yes
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Id even put Tom before him
And some others..
RG31 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Jim Brown,
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Unitas
RG31 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Otto Graham
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Dan Marino
But definitely top 10
RG31 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Manning is much better than Marino.
Manning will go down as the best pure passer ever.
Rcoon1307 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Disagree
I think that goes to Marino or maybe even Brees..
RG31 - January 2, 2012
In Marino's defense,
the rules today favor the passing game so much more than when that era of quarterback played.
Not taking anything away from Brees; I’m just saying.
FailureDrill - January 2, 2012 via Android app
That's also true,
I think in today’s day and age he could have shattered his record.
RG31 - January 2, 2012
and the rules favored him much more than they did Unitas or Griese even.
LARams1968 - January 2, 2012
Deacon Jones, if you want to talk best player ever.
LARams1968 - January 2, 2012
unitas and marino suck lol
Rammon105 - January 2, 2012
YAY sarcasm.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
I think this season though is a testament to Peyton being the most valuable player to a team ever
Peyton did everything for that team. I’m not sure many other players could say that.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
And I agree
With thatch I think he’s the MVP of the league and he didn’t play a down, but best player ever is a stretch, but definitely top 5-10
RG31 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Agreed.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Or
maybe just shows how ill prepared the franchise was in the event he went down?
RWRAMS28 - January 2, 2012
Both are true
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Most other QB's couldn't have done as much for that team as he did
Him going down was huge.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
the best QB of all time is Joe Montana not Manning
Rammon105 - January 2, 2012
+1
Douglas M - January 2, 2012
I think you guys are putting the success of the teams over how good the QB is
wins and SB wins are a team stat
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
He built the Buffalo Bills of the early 90s, too.
He’s been extremely successful at building two dominant franchises during his tenures. He may not have a bunch of SB rings, but I would be satisfied with a decade of playoff teams and some appearances in the SB the way he did for those two organizations.
etp_stl - January 2, 2012
This
AfteR a decade of success, almost any franchise goes into a few down years cause you miss on one or two top picks and you don’t have as much supreme top talent to cover up for it
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Jim Kelly, Bruce Smith, Thurman Thomas, Marv Levy, Andre Reed
4 SB losses and if they weren’t in a row there was only one off year between them.
LARams1968 - January 2, 2012
They were in a row, I friggin respect that team as much as any in NFL history
They were a dynasty that never won the big one. No other team did what they did though.
dbcouver - January 3, 2012
Im sensing you wouldnt like him here? haha
RG31 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
He lost the Lebron of the league
I’d give him a look
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
But i want different scouts
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Can't build a football team that just relies on one player
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
It worked great for 10 yrs
And I hold they coulda made a Super Bowl with Peyton this year. It’s not like anyone else in the AFC is all that great
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
This is short-sided.
The “one player” thing is a recent development. They had very good talent on both sides of the ball for much of the time, but time and contracts for premier players caught up with them. In Buffalo he had a collection of talent on both sides of the ball. He’s a much better team builder than we have seen in St. Louis in the history of either NFL franchise that has resided here. The only question I have is does he still want to do it at his age.
etp_stl - January 2, 2012
Guys I'm not against Faulk being involved, I actually really support it
but I’m just asking why him and not other ex players who also have great football minds
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Not sure.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Perhaps they don't want to.
FailureDrill - January 2, 2012 via Android app
Why is the sky blue and not green?
Bralidore - January 2, 2012
Actually I know why
it’s because water is blue and the sky is blue because the water has sun shine on it that then is reflected by the sky
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Like who exactly?
Faulk is by far the smartest Ram from the GSOT era.
Also bear in mind, he was the only high profile figure that wasn’t basically run out of town. Warner in favor of Bulger. Bruce ended up going to the 49ers, and Holt to Jacksonville (in both cases, it’s not exactly like the Rams were full of quality WRs, either)
Shockingly enough, athletes kind of get bitter when they are deemed not worthwhile anymore to the team that spent most of their career with.
DiscoJer - January 2, 2012
thats the old regime ...
its there choice to continue to hold grudges, it was spags and his staff that banned these guys from the faclities, and i still dont know why, it was spags who took down every memorablia from the GSOT days, again, the kroenke made him kick rocks out of town, so again, if warner, and all these guys want to contnue to be all but hurt, and hold a grudge oh well…there problem not ours.
Mark Jaramillo - January 2, 2012
how about cause Faulk wants to help lol
Rammon105 - January 2, 2012
he seems to be the only one
then again i dont know who else they asked.
Mark Jaramillo - January 2, 2012
warners wife wouldnt let him do it...
Mark Jaramillo - January 2, 2012
that biatch lol
Rammon105 - January 2, 2012
Why not Curt Warner.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
I think that Curt Warner was a RB for the Seahawks.
I don’t think I would invite him into this process. Now, Kurt Warner might have a reason to have a say in this process.
etp_stl - January 2, 2012
Curt was a RB for us.... For one year
BUT IT STILL COUNTS DAMN IT!
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
My bad. Lol.
etp_stl - January 2, 2012
Here we go.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
That got fucked up.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Is it funny?
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Depends.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
On what?
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Well it's a Zoidberg meme.
Basically the internet finds Zoidberg funny and it says “Need a new head football coach? Why not Zoidberg?”
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Zoidberg is my choice for coach
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
This should work.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Is the Rooney rule specifically for black people or for any minority?
Cause Zoid fits the Rooney rule at the least if it’s just minorities
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Not a lot of weird lobster aliens out there.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
or carb or... what ever the hell he is...
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
No there aren't
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
No they would make a new rule that you have to interview carb-aliens before you hire you coaches now
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
*crab-aliens
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
I'm not looking to start up the "staying vs. going" debate, but ....
it sure is difficult to listen to Mr. Demoff talk about how the organization is looking to make a commitment to winning for the fans of St. Louis for a long time with the lease issue hanging over the city’s head, isn’t it?
etp_stl - January 2, 2012
Kroenke is a Missouri guy
The ENTIRE fan base would have to sleep with his daughter to make him want to leave St Louis
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
if his daughter had her dads same mustache?
were fucked!!
Mark Jaramillo - January 2, 2012
* has *
Mark Jaramillo - January 2, 2012
I thought of that when I typed it
But I still wanted to make the point
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
He was
He spends most of his time in California now
DiscoJer - January 2, 2012
Kroenke is a money guy and would sell the hole state of Missouri if it means cash
Rammon105 - January 2, 2012
No it isn't
leases expire all the time and I fully expect them to stay in STL. The Chargers will be the team in LA
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Jags IMO
The whole team and fan base seems fake in Jacksonville. Even the unis seem fake
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
I don't think the rams would go to LA since it would mean Stan would have to sell the team
and since he just got it I don’t think it would happen.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Why would it mean he would have to sell the team?
There is no reason I can come up with for that. He’s going to use the lease issue as leverage to try to get a major renovation to the Dome, major tax incentives and operating concessions from the city, or to garner public funding for a new stadium. The state of Missouri will not pass legislation to approve public funding for a new football stadium. The Chiefs and Cardinals had very little success trying to get such support from the electorate, and they have far more established histories with the state and the fan bases.
etp_stl - January 2, 2012
He's a Missouri guy
The reason he bought the team is cause it’s in Missouri
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
I'm not saying he's definitely moving the team.
I do expect to hear a lot of posturing over the next few years that indicate that, while he wants to stay in St. Louis, the team may have to move to be profitable. It’s not true, but that leverage will be applied to get the deal he wants at the end of the day. It just is going to ring disingenuous when that starts up after all of this feel-good talk about building the St. Louis fan base.
etp_stl - January 2, 2012
dont count on it lol
Rammon105 - January 2, 2012
From what I've herad
The people who are building the stadium want ownership of the team that goes there.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
He would have to sell the team
because the group wanting to brign a team to LA and have a stadium deal worked out say they want to buy a majority of the team
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
If that's true ....
then there is no concern of the Rams going to L.A. Kroenke has spent a long time positioning himself into NFL ownership. There is no way he sells out of it that fast.
etp_stl - January 3, 2012
but their lease is for 30 years and would cost a shit ton to get out of
meanwhile in SD, they have a horrible fan base, nearly every game is blackouted and their lease ends soon and they could easily break it
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
Sorry, it just doesn't cut it to me.
You cannot convince me that the Jags and Kahn are gonna stay. Kahn will want to build a winner, which you can’t do in Jacksonville. The Chargers have had plenty of winning teams in San Diego, it’s a place you can win cause it attracts players.
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Plus San Diego may not sell a lot of tickets
But the Jags average 10 fans at the games here in Florida
King Sam Rules! - January 2, 2012 via mobile
That's a healthy average.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
i think they will eventually move, but not to LA
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
i would be fine with a new stadium
In st Louis
RAMSALLTHEWAY - January 2, 2012 via mobile
be tough to get a new one
not many places to put it and taxpayers won’t want to pay for a stadium with the economy the way it is. Also no investors would invest in a team that is this bad right now and there aren’t many STL that would invest in a stadium even if they were GSOT good
Brick Top - January 2, 2012
I think the Chargers will be the team that moves, too.
The sooner that gets done, the better for St. Louis football. Until then, I think Stan is a smart business man that will attempt to use whatever leverage he has available to him to maximize the value of his team.
etp_stl - January 2, 2012
I don’t give two shits who helps pick a HC. Just as long as one is chosen. Can’t say who’s the right one until they’ve proven themselves. We thought Spags was the right choice. Is Dick gonna cry at the introduction of the new HC?
Skunkburner - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Crying is in Vermeil's contract.
RAMpage28 - January 2, 2012
Actually this is a pretty good move and I like it.
It serves 3 purposes…
1. To the fans it addresses the whole “lose culture” stigma that is attached to this team.
2. Stan is not a football guy so he has a great player and great coach perspective in the interviewing process. When they start talking football he can lean over and go “Is this guy for real? Can he do all that shit he just said?”
3. Networking kinda like number 1, but the Rams still have to recruit good players and they of course are looking for the best coaches. It looks much better if Dick Vermeil shoots a couple rounds of golf with Jeff Fisher and goes “Look, I built a team in two years that dominated the NFC West for half a decade and became NFL lore and I wasnt even there for most of it. You know it well because I bitchslapped your pathetic group of crimewave jungleballers in the superbowl.” “But I respect your coaching ability and you should sign up with me because we are going there again!”…than if Stan goes and shoots a couple rounds of golf with Jeff Fisher with that 70s burned out Vegas hustler look and goes “Do you know about soccer?!”
leadhead - January 2, 2012
Stan isn't much of any kind of guy...
Unless it involves Wal-mart (his whole supposed real estate empire basically consists of leasing land to Wal-mart for their stores)
DiscoJer - January 2, 2012
Oh well there you go even more to the point.
leadhead - January 2, 2012
what in the hell is dicks old ass gonna do? im just hoping he doesnt break down and cry during this process!
