St. Louis Rams Will Interview Jeff Fisher This Week

The St. Louis Rams will interview Jeff Fisher this week for the head coaching job. That's what Peter King said on the debut episode of NBC Sports Talk on the NBC Sports Network, formerly Versus, on Monday.

Fisher has been the subject of rumors for some time, but this is the first confirmation that the Rams will actually interview Fisher for the head coaching job. The vacancy in St. Louis in considered to be one of the premier coaching vacancies in the league this year. The Rams have a franchise quarterback in place as well as a good salary cap situation that will, for now, leave them with an estimated $40-45 million in cap room come 2013.

Through various media whispers it's been suggested that Fisher wants a coaching job with a team that has a quarterback in place. Read: he doesn't want to go through a complete rebuild. A quick turnaround would be mutually beneficial, allowing the Rams to re-establish a winning footprint in St. Louis.

Wasnt thiw guys career of 17 fairly average?

Why is everyone clamoring over him?

He has a history of wnning
he had 5 winning seasons out of 17

Fact

THIS

So that is well below half of his career, why is he so important, just a flavor of the month?

OK

How about a history of respectability.

An average career is respectable?

I thought we wanted this team to go to the playoffs and win, not just be average..

He has an above average

shot at making are team competitive and respectable again.

Competitive and Respectible

Says almost making the playoffs every year but not getting there. It also says we won’t be winning anything significant.

This guy is a better judge of talent and knows how to utilize it.

Much better than what we’ve had the last 10 years.
This situation kinda reminds me of Vermeil. If we get Fisher and draft a LT in the 1st round in April it would be eerily similar.

but isn't it the GM that we need to be judging talent?
Yes

But once we have it, Fisher can better recognize the players talents and utilize his strength.

He wants to beat the Titans badly

and he knows the division well enough.

So he'll likely go to the Colts

I think Billick would be a good fit for the Rams.

Billick would be good you are right
Fisher is a top tier coach in the NFL do you understand that? hope so lol
He was a couple inches away from winning a Super Bowl

He would correct the ship

Almost doesnt doesnt count...
Better than alternatives

Cause Gruden and Cowher aren’t coming here. Id rather have Jay Gruden, but if we get the right coordinators with Fish, we will be going in the right direction IMO

I guess since it is the best option right now

I just hope we don’t settle for mediocrity and actually become a great team. I like the way Chris long talked in his interview.

a few inches wouldn't have WON it per say

but it would have put it into overtime.

a yard and an extra point to send it to overtime. I'm just saying.
point being that Fisher put out a Titans team that was one of the best in the NFL and hard nose nasty in fact i want that for the Rams
He's got more 8-8 seasons

Then losing. He’s also been to a super bowl and was 4 inches from winning if I remember correctly.

Which is still average

And almost doesn’t count but in horseshoes. I thought we want to go to the playoffs in win, not just be mediocre..

It's about righting the ship right now

Fish would right the ship

Yelp sounds like more mediocre seasons ahead
Rams aren't even mediocre right now

Almost every great coach has an average record if I’m not mistaken. I’ll take Fisher with the correct coordinators

ok go play with barny now its past your bed time RG
He's also had

6 seasons at 8-8, and two at 7-9.

It’s not like he was 2-14 every year.

How many playoff wins?
5-6 in postseason
And most of those wins came from the run he made to the SB..
True

Not saying he’s perfect, just stating his record.

Out of him or Gruden, I’d much rather have him, but there are others I’d much rather have instead.

If he is the best candidate then im for it

Just not getting the frenzy over him.

HES JEFF FISHER

WHAT DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND?

Let me put it this way:

If Tim Tebow was a coach, his name would be Jeff Fisher.

Ok that does it, GET HIM!!
hahaha you just killed Fisher with that Tebow SUCKS
seems like your okay with 7-9 and 8-8 seasons

This is why we loose…we have a culture of loosing and taking it alright.

We are trying to right the ship

We know Fish will do that

In this division those are playoffs berths

I’m just saying as far as a baseline goes, it isn’t that bad.

Who would u rather have?
Bigger question is how many losing seasons?
Not bad numbers if you look at them all

6 winning seasons
5 .500 seasons
142-120 in his career

lets not drink the koolaid

Kinda like we did in the offseason.

well...

vince lombardi is not walking through that door.

Important.

Fisher won’t interview for jobs he’s not interesting in. Big news.

He's gonna interview with the Dolphins

Who he’s supposedly not interested in

well...

apparently he is interested in them…

Sonofa

Literally two seconds away from posting this.

damn Ryan I swear you are a robot when it comes to typing.

Fisher

is ok but again I think someone with and offensive mind would be more suitable. Why not call up Brad Childress I mean the reason he got ran out of MN was Favre being the princess he is. Sam could go back to the WC.

Childress is completely unimaginitive and the Viking players hated him

I still say that getting Fish to run the ship and Norv to coach the offense is the best idea

o coordinator
Still no
The

players didnt hate him until Favre turned the locker room on him.

The fall out stems when in their minds he did T-Jack wrong
Until

the last year he had made improvements each year. Favre=cancer of locker room. Frazier crashed and burned this year and still kept his job. I tedn to think Chilly made the right call on the TJack deal. I mean after all we were all happy to see the Seachicks get him. It’s not like any players form that team are here anyways.

The Vikings led the league in most plays for zero or negative yards during his tenure on offense

Thats not debatable

Neither

is his consistent improvement form year to year until his last year when the Favre reared his ass.

Actually, it wasn't his ass that he reared

And I like Childress more as a talent evaluator, assistant GM kinda guy. Hes more of an even keel executive type than a coach

Fisher would be fine

Belichick sucked in cleveland…and he turned out fine. vermeil did fine in his second coaching stint.

I don't want that 80's porn star.

Really Fisher? Tell me what did he do to make him a great HC. He lasted 17 years without getting fired that was the best thing I could think of but why he lasted so long I don’t know. Belichick didn’t get 17 years in Cleveland. Fuck Fisher he will be a mistake!

He also has been to a Super Bowl
...... and lost..
And you have been to how many super bowls?
Maybe

get Martz back he has been to a SB.

Are we arguing that Fisher isn't better than Spags?

Cause that at this moment is the measurement in using. Give me the other candidates you think are better than Fisher (Gruden is not leaving ESPN, and Cowher has little interest)

Actually

I don’t think Fisher can do much more with this squad than Spags did. Now next year may be a different story. I just think we need to lean to teh O side of the ball for some balance.

Fisher and Norv is my favorite scenario

And fisher may be a defensive guy, but he doesn’t ignore offense like Spags did

WTF Does that mean
I actually went to the Patriot-Eagles SB

So I should call them up?

Hahahahahahahaha

+1000000000000000000000000000000000
That was funny shit

Look the problem with "established" head coaches

Is that there will always be something negative. If they got fired, they got fired for a reason. No coach is going to have a perfect record. Bill Cowher went 6-10 twice with the Steelers. Tony Dungy had 6-10 and 8-8 years with the Bucs.

You can find negatives on anyone.

Thank you
12 non winning seasons

I have had enough of that kind of shit. No more.

142-120

seems to be better than 10-38 though

Well then 3 non winning seems better than 12
Not when it's out of three
12 out of 17 you would be find with that

It seems that the losing is ok has gone past the team and front office and now to the fans.

We want winning seasons

Not half seasons

Yes fucking a we do.
Fisher

had 6 loosing and 6 winning records, considering whole seasons.
look, there is a guy that can win and get the team to a super bowl, isn’t that what we want?
Spagnuolo cannot, there are not many options, no lombardi or some 100-0-record-guy.

Fishers teams winning or losing seasons were never the worst team in the NFL that every one made jokes about
5 seasons were .500 season though so those aren't losing seasons
Aren't winning season's either..
as in non winning seasons a 500 record is goog enough for you
No they aren't good but you guys are acting like they are lossing records
they've already photoshopped McD into a Chiefs uni, who's gonna do fisher in a Rams uni?
McDaniels wasn't fired
i thought they reported that he was!
Nope

Watch the Press Conference.

Demoff specifically said every assistant coach, with the exception of Josh McDaniels, has been informed they will be let go.

Guess Sam lobbied hard enough
i tried watching my internet or something sucks
No, his contract goes through February. I think they are holding onto to him so another team that wants him will have to cough up some compensation
makes sense

hope he leaves too though…if they’re gonna clean the toilet why leave a floating turd?

If we add Floyd and Lloyd stays

And get a LT, and a G, and a miracle…… Why is it we still need so much help on offense?!?! Do we have anyone besides SJax and Sam

well if miami does what they said they would do...

for the #1-#2 pick, as in giving up long (which i think is bullshit), then you jump on that quick! all-pro tackle…check! wont need to draft one. btw…did any of you see alshon jeffery get kicked out of the bowl gm today? for fighting? 4 pillars?…oh wait!

They'd only consider giving up Long for Luck
so your saying that teams would be wary of RG3?
I'm saying a lock for greatness (I don't agree with that but that's how people see it) in Luck

Warrants maybe giving up Long. RG3 is amazing (I think his ceiling is maybe the highest of this class, and a little higher than Cam’s) but not a given supposedly, so he’s not worth a given all pro

lol wishful thinking sergey
I don't understand

people don’t want Fisher because he wasn’t 60-10? we aren’t going to get john madden or Vince lombardi guys, fisher is the best candidate, and he did a fine job not losing a lot in Tennessee

False

No interview was setup

link?
It's just him upset that they are interested in Figser
kevin demoff said in the presser
They never tell anything like that in these pressures

And an interview will be set up at some point

he just did
I mean they always deny who they are interviewing in these kind of pressers

Cause if you admit you are interested in Fisher, he can lobby for more and more money cause he can start a biddin war for him

gotcha
Is it possible that Sam lobbied for McD's return?

Or is it a forgone conclusion that he’s gone…

Idk

Sam might have lobbied, or they might know McD will be in demand (Pats and Chiefs) as they can trade him.

demoff said "we plan to keep mcdaniles under through his contract...in february" lol

o and on fisher. if it had not been for peyton manning.. fisher would have been winning his division for years so u have to consider that he was a good coach that couldnt get passed peyton, kinda like how jerry sloan just couldnt get passed the bulls. in the nfc west, he is easily the best coach.

fisher had some damn good teams in his tenure...

he drafted jevon kearse, steve mcnair, eddie george, to name some of the all-pro’s. and his defenses were always top 10. the guy can coach, and help in the draft.

And still 0 SBs and average records..
Which at this point would be wonderful

Unless you are happy going 2 and 14 virtually every year…

We also are in a much weaker division than he was.

Yea titans were like

The kings when they were always a late seed cause they were stuck in the division with the lakers

im gonna change youe initials RG...

to RC!! lol better suits you nowadays.

Lol nice one

Fisher coached a small-market team with limited resources to a lot of winning seasons and a Super Bowl appearance. He is respected by football insiders around the league. His final years with the Titans were hurt by the failed Vince Young experiment. He is considered to have gotten a lot out of a little in Tennessee. Is he perfect? No. No one they will get is. He is a good choice

Not sure if this is a repost, but pretty funny

For those that don't like Fisher

Who do you want as our HC?
For those that say Gruden his record is basically the same as Fisher’s:
Gruden .540 winning percentage
Fisher .542 winning percentage

Fisher is much better than Gruden!

Gruden won a super bowl with tony dungy’s team. He is a whinny little bitch. I can’t stand listening to him on MNF. He’s terrible.

Gruden is good just too full of him self acts like a spoiled brat

Fisher is a real head coach in every respect some thing we have not had in over ten years
i already see Jef in his Rams shirt hahaha
in fact when the Titans fired Fisher i said that same day i would trade him for Spags in a hart beat
