John Clayton: Draft Trades Go Through St. Louis & More On Spagnuolo's Replacement

John Clayton from ESPN was on local 101 ESPN radio on Monday afternoon to talk about, what else, coaching changes, et al with the St. Louis Rams. Clayton talked about potential candidate for the Rams head coach and general manager jobs. He also dropped a nugget about the 2012 NFL Draft that Rams fans will be excited to hear.

As far as who might replace Spagnuolo and Devaney, Clayton didn't really have anything new. He reiterated what many have been saying about the Rams job: that it's an attractive destination because the team has a franchise quarterback in place as well as a huge chunk of cap space, $40-45 million, in just a year from now.

Clayton did say that current Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith could very well be a candidate if he gets the boot in San Diego. That jives with what Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune has been reporting for weeks now. Experienced personnel will be preferred for the vacancies, particularly at head coach.

Draft enthusiasts will be particularly encouraged about something else Clayton said on the radio. Asked about the situation in Indianapolis, he felt like Andrew Luck will still be the pick in Indianapolis. Clayton said that draft day trades will come through St. Louis as teams like Washington and Miami look to trade up for Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Boy would that sixth pick be a dream scenario for the Rams
the rams will hold the draft board hostage!

i love it!! this is going to be the new yr of change in st. louis! if the new gm comes in and hits on every single pick? with RG3 dangled, and a boatload of picks coming in? that will turn this franchize around in a heartbeat! damn i cant wait.

+1

hell yes. can’t wait

Hits on every single pick????

Are you serious? You got a better chance of winning Powerball. Not a good thing to pin on a new GM.

for your information...

in 2006 while i worked for sandia national, labs here in albuquerque, me and 15 other co-workers all bought powerball tickets…we were 1 powerball # short of…get this…$329 mil!! the powerball number was 23, we had 22! DOH! the concelation prize for getting all the other numbers, we all got $11 grand each. so ya…i had a chance! lol

OH YEA!!!!!!!!
Bounty for RG3

What do you think? Two firsts and a second? Or more?

at least 2 1st's, and 2 second rounders...

hell if luck was projected to get 4 1st rounders? RG3 should fetch about the same, since he is the heisman guy ! ;)

And cause Cam was so good this year
Cam has been the best thing to happen to the rams this year

That and Barkley going back to collage. I hope our new gm is better at trades than Devaney

This is exactly what I was just thinking,

..there were so many times where it would’ve been beneficial to us if he’d made a trade but he never did except for like 6th and 7th rounders

No Barkley not declaring was...

Cause now there if more demand for RGIII and Luck. There really is no other QB that is currently 1st round worthy.

Barkley, by striking yourself from the draft, you have made the Rams more powerful than you can imagine.
