Rams Have Fired Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo; Expected To Pursue Jeff Fisher

The St. Louis Rams have fired head coach Steve Spagnuolo. According to several reports, the team has now confirmed the news that Spagnuolo has been informed of his dismissal. The team will have a meeting with players at 10:30 a.m. and it sounds as though they'll have some availability for the media thereafter.

With Spagnuolo dismissed, the question now turns to whether or not owner Stan Kroenke will fire general manager Billy Devaney. After that question is answered, the team will then turn to finding suitable replacements.

Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network reported this morning that the Rams are expected to pursue Jeff Fisher, the former Titans head coach. He also said that the team may reach out to Jon Gruden, despite his recent statement that he plans to stay with ESPN in the broadcasting booth.

The Rams will have competition for Fisher with a number of other head coaching vacancies expected to open up in the days ahead. Some background on Jeff Fisher here.

As for Spagnuolo, he's expected to have plenty of suitors from teams seeking a defensive coordinator, including possible landings in Philadelphia and New York.

"the question now turns to whether or not owner Stan Kroenke will fire general manager Billy Devaney"

It would be the height of absurdity if Devaney doesn’t get the boot as well.

While the hiring of a good experienced HC is important, the right GM and a team president who can sort out this mess and get this team going in the right direction is even more important.

If Kroenke is not going to be hands-on, then he needs to hire someone who will be.

The same

goes if McD doesn’t hit the bricks as well.

Deaveny has been fired!

OK, well that's that.

I’m disappointed in Spags getting the axe, but c’est la vie and here’s to the Rams getting out of this godawful pickel they’re in.

and u lose sir
I didn't lose G

There will never be any way to tell if this was actually the best move for the team. I say it isn’t, but you’ll never be able to prove me wrong :P

But thanks for letting me use you as a punching bag all these weeks!

At least you had the guts to type your mind.
the spags is dead the spags is dead lol

dont let the door hit u on the way out loser

If they keep Mc Daniels

we will be losers again next year.

+1

I want to hear that all the coaches have been fired too

Spags....

Really that Spags has been described as a NICE guy? The same guy who when he was hired as Head Coach of the Rams removed all the pictures of the team that won the SuperBowl in the 1999 season? The same guy that fired long-time Rams Equipment Manager – Hewitt?
The same guy that refused to hire Isaac Bruce as receivers coach when Bruce offered his services?
Spags weakness was that he NEVER recognized bad play by his team. He always seemed to praise his players for showing up win or lose. He NEVER seemed to get angry about losing.
Time for changes!

Just get a decent OL and things will be good again
Nah dude, it's all Spags' fault.

Now that he’s gone, we’ll be competing for division and super bowl championships again.
