Rams RB Coach Sylvester Croom Interviews For Same Job With Jaguars, Per Sources

With all the hoopla associated with the St. Louis Rams hiring new coaches, it's easy to forget that they could lose some good assistant coaches in the process. Of all the Rams' assistant, running backs coach Sylvester Croom stands apart for his experience and track record of success. Now, they may be close to losing him.

According to sources cited by Alfie Crow, a fellow SB Nation contributor and editor of the network's Jaguars' site Big Cat Country, the Jaguars interviewed Croom for the running backs coaching position.

Croom's contract is up in February, along with all of the Rams' other assistant coaches. New head coach Jeff Fisher will fill out his own staff, and the running backs coach could depend on who he hires to be his offensive coordinator.

Croom joined the Rams staff in 2009, after a tenure as the head coach at Mississippi State where he was the first African-American coach in SEC history. He interviewed for a job on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama last February.

Steven Jackson was already established as an elite running back when the Rams hired Croom in 2009, but under Croom's tutelage he became the team's leader. He also made the Pro Bowl twice, in 2009 and 2010, but not as a starter.

Jackson's an established player, and he isn't likely to suffer from Croom leaving. Croom hasn't gone anywhere yet, so there's always the off chance Fisher keeps him around based on his reputation.

One guy I hate to see leave

How about bringing in Marshall Faulk?

I thought all the assistant coaches were fired too? We need a receivers coach, someone who's played the position.
For a minute there I thought you said good position coaches

Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Seriously I guess Croom isn’t a huge problem, in fact I don’t know if he’s good, bad or somewhere in between. I have no idea about him. I know I like Elmendorf as a DBs coach. And I’m pretty sure I know how I feel about our O-line coach. When we hear something about the O-line opening I’ll be all ears. I guess I’ll be all eyes, not ears.

well as long as our QB coach doesn't leave
Oh quick thought on this RB coach

Cadillac and Norwood
SJax doesn’t need much coaching. So idk if i’ll miss him
