You remember how the Rams were quiet, during Fisher watch? Well now they are in the news again, less than 24 hours after hearing that the Rams would hire Brian Schottenheimer as their new offensive coordinator. It is being reported by Jason La Canfora that the Rams will hire Gregg Williams as their defensive coordinator. So it turns out that the rumors of Williams joining Jeff Fisher were true.
Be sure to follow us on Twitter @TurfShowTimes for more.
Gregg Williams will bring in a blitzing philosophy to the St. Louis Rams. I also hear that he will use players to drop back often as well.
Things are getting interesting in St. Louis. Jeff Fisher is bringing in a star staff with him. While Greg Williams didn't leave the Saints in great fashion, allowing 36 points against the 49ers, can't be something to be proud of as your last game, the Rams will be happy to have him.
Also, Jason La Confora, just said on NFL Network that Jeff Fisher and Gregg Williams sons could end up being apart of the coaching staff. Just something to keep an eye on.
Here is Ryan's take on Gregg Williams joining the Rams.
Also, here is Ralph Malbrough on why Gregg Williams wasn't to blame on the Saints last drive.

Im fine with Fisher's son cause of Schwartz loving him
But does anyone know anything about Williams jr?

He used to do the opening on Monday Night Football until all that contreversy with his comments on Obama.
R-U ready for some football!!!
Da Rams! - January 16, 2012
I see what you did there.
Starkey - January 16, 2012
nice.
kswiss - January 16, 2012
Why does that look nothing like him?
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
I'm fine with him
sergey606 - January 16, 2012
I like his style
And love the idea of his defense with Long and Quinn able to provide a pass rush from a 4 man front (something the Saints just dont have)
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
yeah but saints aren't known for their D
so it’s like hiring a vegan to be a grillmaster at a steak house
sergey606 - January 16, 2012
Well, they do have Brees and Payton
And when they won the Super Bowl, the difference was their defense
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Yea I talks to done saint fans
Who said williams was “making chicken salad out of chicken shit” .our personnel should fit him just fine
Ram_Redemption - January 16, 2012 via mobile
good
i’m happy about that
sergey606 - January 16, 2012
Exactly what Lovie Smith did for Martz when he was with the GSOT
Da Rams! - January 16, 2012
Thats what makes this hire so good. Williams did a good job of coaching up the D.
The talent on the Saints D is nowhere near their offense, yet they played well under Williams. The Saints defense was never afraid to mix it up with other teams. Remember that NFC Championship game against Favre and Vikes? I know Favre STILL feels that one.
Da Rams! - January 16, 2012
But his D that the Rams beat in the SB was pretty tough
LARams1968 - January 16, 2012
They used to be a defensive team before Brees and Co.
Douglas M - January 16, 2012
This is awesome.
Who better to take over from Steve Spagnuolo’s 4-3 deep-zone, exotic-blitz-heavy scheme than a man who basically runs the exact same system? Williams is exactly what Laurinaitis and Chris Long need. The system fits what the Rams already have in place perfectly.
Joe Mazzi - January 16, 2012
Good to hear that.
Pekka for Predator Pontiff - January 16, 2012
I'm liking the Williams move.
The Saint D played light years better under him and knocked the snot outta people. Nice to know that snot on the field won’t just be from our own players on Sunday for a change.
Da Rams! - January 16, 2012
Saints - Rick Reiprish next!?
The question now is will Rick Reiprish join them as General Manager for the Rams? The Rams need a talented evaluator, and it doesn’t get better than Reiprish – he has the experience and the qualities needed to rebuild this roster.
alexntheknow - January 16, 2012
Who?
Midasknight - January 16, 2012
Who x 2?
Douglas M - January 16, 2012
i'm happy with the move for us but i don't know why he'd want...
to make a lateral move like this. the same job on a different team, usually coaches move-up to a dc or oc, or they move down after a head coaching gig doesn’t workout.
thejd - January 16, 2012
They are basically best friends
T.Ram - January 16, 2012
His contract was up so he was picking where he wanted to keep coordinating
He chose best bud fisher and his hometown
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Also, Gregg Williams is one of those that is an excellent coordinator and not a very good head coach so he knows his place now.
Midasknight - January 16, 2012
I really hope he stops putting one safety/linebacker on tight ends
You can still blitz, but there are beginning to be lots of tight ends who are the most dangerous receivers on their team.
loyal2therams - January 16, 2012
I think that a coverage OLB just moved up in need priority with this hire.
We will have one in the first three rounds of the draft.
Will not be defeated - January 16, 2012
Or a LB like Upshaw so that JL doesn't have to blitz
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Ok, it is now official. Are you married to Upshaw?
His name is just about all I read you type these days.
Midasknight - January 16, 2012
I LOVE Upshaw (no homo) as a player
Im sorry, he’s the player im stuck on right now. He’s just a beast
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Peter King wondering whether Jim Wasburn will come to St Louis
Get the whole band back together. I would definetly take Washburn coaching Long and Quinn
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
*washburn
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Washburn coaching Long and Quinn
With Williams calling the game plan and Fish overseeing it all, that’s a great group
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
yea
Washburn is the best line coach in the NFL IMO. It would be awesome to get him to work for us. Especially if we can get some sort of playmaking still.
markg1127 - January 16, 2012 via mobile
And if Castillo goes back to o-line coach in Philly
That means Howard Mudd is available, and maybe Washburn convinces him to fly with him to St Louis
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
i think mudd is done
I think they had to drag him out of retirement just for a year.
markg1127 - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Maybe, but wouldn't hurt to try
Even a year of coaching by Howard Mudd is better than a year under any other o line coach IMO
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Washburn alone wouldn't be too bad IMO
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
im saying get washburn just to coach the d line
markg1127 - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Yep, let's get the band back together
It did go to a Super Bowl if I’m not mistaken. Washburn+Fisher+Williams= a team only the GSOT can beat
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Boy, Fisher not wasting anytime is he? At this rate, him and the soon to be hired GM will have the entire draft board completed by Friday.
Da Rams! - January 16, 2012
Fisher selects his staff before getting a contract signed lol
VTramsFan - January 16, 2012
So here's my question:
If they Eagles move Juan Castillo back to O-line, do you see us actually getting Washburn (yes please!) and would they go after Howard Mudd?
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Nice to hear some familiar names as coordinators.
I was tired of asking, ‘Who da fuck his he?’ when Linehan and Spags were choosing staff.
Da Rams! - January 16, 2012
BTW. As a rule of thumb rookie assistant coaches, position coaches, and coordinators should be the exception not the rule.
Da Rams! - January 16, 2012
You know though, this guy could be pretty good. It is probably pretty hard to coach
a defense with players that comprise about 10% of the roster salary. Ok so 10% is probably exaggerating, but you know with breez sproles colston and that offensive line…not much left for the defense after harper and vilma.
I would suspect with the Rams this guy will have alot more to work with.
leadhead - January 16, 2012
Dam fish is not playing! Im lovin it! Makes me proud as a rams fan that we arent cutting corners anymore!
kevio3000 - January 16, 2012 via Android app
This is very good.
One reason why I wanted spags to stay was because of his defense. It created turnovers n sacks. Can’t fault the scheme because the d was on the field for 40+ mins every game. Kinda the same scheme here. I also read something saying no defense sent 8 or dropped 8 more than the saints this year.
markg1127 - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Fisher is a true head coach.
A head coach is a tactician and hires competent coordinators and assistants to handle the lower level tasks of getting the team ready for games. With Shotts and Williams, he should be able to move over the entire field during training camp to make sure the team is working as a unit, rather than spending most of his time in one specific area. It will be interesting to see who coaches special teams now.
Da Rams! - January 16, 2012
who's the QB coach?
we need a QB coach.
sergey606 - January 16, 2012
WHY
Did anyone not see his D yesterday and last yr when they got rolled by Seattle.
SHAWN .B - January 16, 2012
Not nearly the talent or pass rush
Long and Quinn blow the linemen he was getting in New Orleans out of the water
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
they were a Top 5 defense in 2010...
they just had a bad game against Seattle. Every defense will have one or two bad games a year it just so happened this happened in a playoff game.
jpcisco - January 16, 2012
This is a good hire...
in my opinion. The Saints did struggle a bit this year on defense, they ranked 24th but in 2010 they were ranked 4th in the NFL and led the league in turnovers in 09. Pretty pleased with this hire, think he will be a good fit with the Rams..
jpcisco - January 16, 2012
Saints fans all agree
This year his defensive talent was way below the previous years
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Yea I agree...
I think too many people are looking at this year and not his previous success as a DC.
jpcisco - January 16, 2012
so marts retired eh?
sergey606 - January 16, 2012
Yep
On the day it looks like the entirety of the D he beat in the Super Bowl might be headed to St Louis
King Sam Rules! - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Im VERY happy with this
living in md i had the pleasure of watching his defense while sean taylor was alive. Just know this… that defense was on par with the steelers if not better. Ive always been a fan of williams
Hibachi40 - January 16, 2012
what part of MD?
DCRamFan - January 16, 2012
gaithersburg
i take it you are in the 301 area also?
Hibachi40 - January 16, 2012
I live in Alexandria VA
but I worked in Waldorf for a few years…..yikes!
DCRamFan - January 16, 2012
Wandered over the Saints site, Canal Street Chronicles
and the majority of them have nothing but very nice, appreciative things to say about Williams. That is quite the opposite reaction we saw from the Jets
DCRamFan - January 16, 2012
It's just a NYers way
And just like Philly, loud and brash
Mudsharktoo - January 16, 2012
Williams is an upgrade, now we can turn things around.
We have room under the cap,
and an interesting draft approaching.
