Hiring a head coach like Jeff Fisher should have several added benefits for the St. Louis Rams ability to attract free agents. It might even be enough to help keep a big free agent in St. Louis, despite his stated preference to follow his former coach.
Brandon Lloyd just finished an appearance on the NFL Network expressing considerable happiness over the news that the Rams hired Jeff Fisher to be their new head coach. Could the hiring of Jeff Fisher be enough to keep Lloyd with the team?
Update by VT: Brandon Lloyd Video is right here

Wide receiver Brandon Lloyd was the best wide receiver the Rams added to their roster since parting ways with Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce. They had him for an 11 game stretch of the 2011 season, after swapping a fifth-round pick to Denver for him.
He'll be a free agent this year, and said that he would prefer to follow Josh McDaniels wherever he goes. Lloyd credits McDaniels for turning his career around, the only coach who knows how to use him, to paraphrase.
The Rams could sure stand to keep a receiver like Lloyd. They could use the franchise tag, but that will cost about $9.5 million in salary for 2012. They have $10 million in cap space, and even if they found more via creative cap management, it would still represent a potentially intrusive chuck of it.
The New England Patriots, McDaniels' new team, could use a receiver like Lloyd, but they also have to spend some money to hang onto Wes Welker. They're expected to franchise him, which leaves the question of whether or not they would have money for both receivers. It's not like they couldn't use a downfield threat like Lloyd, though.
Ultimately, it's Fisher's call which free agents the Rams will pursue.

If Lloyd stays it would be great.
The hole at WR would get just that much smaller.

I hope lloyd stays and we draft blackmon
even in a phone interview with jackson on nfl.com he said he hopes lloyd stays with the team
holtfan - January 13, 2012
Yeah he said Sam needs a young WR too.
He also said we need to reevaluate the O-line
RAMpage28 - January 13, 2012
Is there an interview?
Do you have a link of Fisher saying this? I’d like to see it!

that is the SJ interview and underneath that is a video that says “lloyd loves the fisher hire” or something like that.

Thanks holtfan

yeah reevaluate? maybe replace the offensive line, at least 3/5s of it.

I feel stupid for saying this, but I worried more about this than them getting Fisher
Never been a big Fisher fan. I loved Lloyd this year though and would hate to see him lost.
HomerForTheRams - January 13, 2012
As i've said,
Fisher brings more than his resume. He will attract players and staff alike. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lloyd now stays on the roster. If we hired Horton, or another rookie HC, what would the odds be then? Most likely slim to none.

Llyod
Blackmon
Mark Clayton
Danny A.
Salas
and who ever wins this last spot in camp here!
this upgrades our wr like 2000%
fearsomefoursum - January 13, 2012
I like it a lot. I say give the last spot to a pure returner. Someone good.
Not someone mediocre we hold onto that can technically do the job.
HomerForTheRams - January 13, 2012
Who's Mark Clayton?
SMASH44 - January 13, 2012
That guy who was the Rams receiver
as of tomorrow
DCRamFan - January 13, 2012
I am drooling at the thought of Lloyd,Blackmon,Salas,Amendola,Pettis,DX,Kendricks,Hoomanawnaui, etc.
If we can re-sign Lloyd and bring in a talent like Blackmon I feel like we would have an very powerful offense. Think about if we add a LaMichael James or Chris Rainey in the later rounds of the draft to play a Darren Sproles type of role in our offense? If we can do that, regardless of how we finished this year, I think we would end up being favorites to win the west next year.
jpcisco - January 13, 2012
Hoomanawnaui,DX,=" injury bust" Pettis=bust
Zero chance
Thomas W - January 13, 2012
Lol, how can you already call Pettis a bust??
He played darn good towards the end of the year, he was our only reliable WR. Most of the games he started Feeley or Brandstater(sp?) was our QB. Also he had a short off-season, for a RC that is a big deal. You could see him struggle early in the year. I dont see how anyone could call Pettis a bust? He lead our team in receptions and yards for a few games. DX might not be on the roster but when he plays he is a playmaker. Hoomanawanui has had some injuries but with him it isnt always the same injury, I would be worried if it was the same kind of injury over and over but it is different injuries. Maybe the guy just has bad luck? When he plays he is a solid TE.
jpcisco - January 13, 2012
Lloyd was our only reliable receiver.
Pettis has a lot to prove. he’s gonna have to work for a roster spot.
DuhhhRams! - January 13, 2012
Pettis HATE.....
All of the dropped balls in 2010 season and again in 2011…LLoyd lots of drops, Salas lots of drops, Kendricks lots of drops, DX lots of drops, Gibson lots of drops, and Our FANS are calling Pettis a bust….Well maybe we can trade him to a team that will throw to him and WE can Look STUPID for letting the WR help that we are looking for go. Terrible amount of hate from Local reporters for the only WR other than Lloyd that looked like he could catch (when he was thrown to). The teams that are winning throw to more than 1 targeted WR per game (hello Sam & McD, bad coaching & QB decision making) and have lots of options on …..I say let Pettis HELP us prove how Stupid we were for Hiring McD, and for McD not even trying to use him….Pettis, Good luck with your next Coach or Team
sprmn4life - January 13, 2012
agree 100%, Pettis was solid when he got his chance...
Look at Laurent Robinson? Everyone was bashing him and the Rams cut him, he went to Dallas and put up GREAT numbers (54 catches,858 yards,11 tds). Made the Rams look stupid.
jpcisco - January 13, 2012
we traded our 5th round last year
and Atlanta took JaQuiz Rogers. Who beat USC twice in his three year career as a Beaver! In 2008, USC defense had 8 of the 11 starters drafted into the NFL. This kid is going to be special. Already has taken carries away from Turner. and who did we get for that trade? I’ll tell ya….5th round (where ATL took Rogers) DB Jermale Hines who played in 10 games this year…wfi…wfi….5 for Carolina 5 for Indy…. and the 7th pick from ATL DB Jonathan Nelson who didn’t make the team….God awful picks, trades …..Now we got a guy who will not let players like Rodgers and Ed Dickson TE Ravens , pass by us.
fearsomefoursum - January 13, 2012
yea I was REALLY pissed about that. I had my fingers crossed that we would land Rodgers...
dont understand why we traded that pick. He is an elusive little bastard, he will be a good complementary back to Turner. Kinda give Atlanta that Sproles type back, it seems like every good NFL team has a scat back now days. I think Fisher is going to have a solid draft this year and will build a contender here in Stl.

Lloyds gone
In the interview he made it seem like he didn’t know why they even called him. It doesn’t matter what he thinks about the hire because it won’t affect him at all.

NE needs a WR
D. Branch and Oh OH Cinco are done.
fearsomefoursum - January 13, 2012
Lloyd, the Coach chaser, probably won't fit in the New England system.
He needs to grow up, suck it up and stay Here and play ball.
JMcd might like him, but B.B. won’t!
Players must conform to Bills scheme!
He won’t be changing it for Lloyd.
This is a better fit for Lloyd.
However, Fisher may not want the headache either.
Hopefully Brandon realizes this, sucks it up and stays………Go Rams!

Does Fisher keep his former player
Jacob Bell?
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
I hope not.
Waste of money and a roster spot.
RAMpage28 - January 13, 2012
Yeah, just thought I'd bring it up.
I can’t think of any other players who used to play for Fisher or Williams.
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
Maybe if he can turn him around and keep him motivated
SMASH44 - January 13, 2012
I might be wrong, but I think the entire offensive line is a coaching issue
Last year I remember talking to Ravens fans who still loved Brown. This OLine aught to be one of the best in the league with the big buys this team has made. I hope he gives it a chance to work under better coaching before gutting it.
HomerForTheRams - January 13, 2012
Which is what I think of a lot of other issues on the team.
I watched a game online with a Wisconsin fan. He came in half way and the Rams were getting their asses handed to them early. “Shame Kendricks had to land here. So much talent wasted on such a terrible team.” Then Kendricks proceeded to drop every pass thrown to him. I can’t believe that all these players that were so talented on other teams came here and just shit themselves.
HomerForTheRams - January 13, 2012
True dat.
Steve Loney should be banished from St. Louis.
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
Too nice. I say Game of Thrones style. Heads-Spikes-Walls
HomerForTheRams - January 13, 2012
I was unaware that Brandon Lloyd
was in Roc-A-Familia, but I like it! Imagine what he could do at the halftime shows
DCRamFan - January 13, 2012
Brandon Lloyd
With the way New England utilizes Gronkowski and Hernandez at tight end and all of the catches that Welker makes, maybe the Rams are the best option for Lloyd.
Lloyd may only catch 50 passes in New England, or 90 who knows? He’ll probably catch 90 passes if he signs with the Rams.
Mister T - January 13, 2012
I just love
I just love the way Lloyd catches everything….EVERYTHING!!!!with his hands….reminds me of HOLT
fearsomefoursum - January 13, 2012
Even if he does stay
If we trade down to the 4 spot, blackmon should be the choice..
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
true
Cleveland wants Griffin III
fearsomefoursum - January 13, 2012
ok stewie
do your homework, when was the last time a team from the top 10 traded down to say a top 3 pick in the NFL draft? (I don’t know the answer) I just don’t see it happening. I know its nice to dream of lollipops and draft picks. But more realistic would be someone trading us their 17-24 pick plus their second this year and next and maybe 2014 for our number 2 pick and Blackmon will be LONG gone….I just like saying LONG…… LONG…..I’m just throwing it out there. Seems we are really talking about Cleveland with their two number 1s…..Or best case, having Wash and Clev battle for Griffin. If we choose Wash, Blackmon goes 4th overall to Clev.
fearsomefoursum - January 13, 2012
I dont pick them just because their draft picks
I pick them because I have no confidence in colt as their qb of the future, they wanted Sam a couple years back but couldn’t get him, this year they have the picks and means, I think them trading up is bigger than anybody else’s.
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
agree, Cleveland has the picks to do it..
and they want RG3. The can trade us their 1st round picks (plus whatever) and trade Colt to pick up a few more later round picks. I think the front runner to trade for 2nd pick has to be Cleveland.
jpcisco - January 13, 2012
Same thoughts
Well them and the redskins..
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
Wow, I personally didnt even think he was a first round talent but...
“Area scouts and sources” tell SI’s Tony Pauline that “a lot of teams” have Baylor’s Kendall Wright rated as the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2012 NFL draft.
“Several teams,” including one NFC club currently in the playoffs, have Wright rated higher than Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon. Blackmon is a favorite of media draftniks, but he only goes 6-foot-1, is likely to run in the 4.5s, and has a checkered off-field history. Wright will likely time in the low-4.3s and has drawn comparisons to Carolina’s Steve Smith for his combo of vertical skills and physicality. With the Senior Bowl just over a week away, Wright may be a sleeper to be drafted in the top ten.
We need a big physical WR, we already tried the speedster approach with Donnie Avery and it didnt work. Wright is only 5-10, I would still much rather have Blackmon. He can take over and dominate a game.
jpcisco - January 13, 2012
Definetely agree. Complete done with the small "speedsters."
Maybe in a completed WR corps it might be a nice finishing touch, but you still need the big guy(s) first.
HomerForTheRams - January 13, 2012
If he has Steve Smith potential you have to take a look
diehardram87 - January 13, 2012
Don't take that stuff seriously. Every year they do that and players rarely live up to it.
Do I really have to bring up Jamarcus?
HomerForTheRams - January 13, 2012
lol Just take a look
diehardram87 - January 13, 2012
Of course they should take a look into every player they can,
I just hope they don’t buy the “He has X like potential” bs. Admittedly I’m talking about something I know nothing though, don’t pay attention to college ball. Too much going on. Conferences and weird systems and governing bodies choosing who wins… nope.
HomerForTheRams - January 13, 2012
And i know about the hyperboles that fly around during draft season
diehardram87 - January 13, 2012
Blackmon won the best WR trophy twice in college....Wright had 1 good yr....Blackmon has had 3
You tell me whos a lock for top 5 pick and all around better WR?
SMASH44 - January 13, 2012
agree, if the Rams take any other WR than Blackmon and Blackmon is available...
I would be extremely pissed. It would really make me question Fisher and the new GM.
jpcisco - January 13, 2012
SJAX not ready for the booth
Anyone see him, nervous as all hell, try to talk about the Fisher Hire. Hilarious! He started listing players he spoke to, and got to ‘Drew Brees,’ which he then retracted and said ‘Oh, Jesus’ after about an awkward 10 second pause.
Love that guy…….just stay in the backfield

Brandon lloyd
Should stay, but most likely he wont. I think we gone draft blackmon, but I wouldn’t release DX I would see how he looks this offseason if he looks good and the knee looks healthy I would put him as #1 receiver and put blackmon as #2 receiver. If Lloyd stays then I say let blackmon and DX scrap it out for #2.
