Jeff Fisher will be the next head coach of the St. Louis Rams, according to Peter King. Fisher reached his decision more than a week after interviewing with both the Dolphins and the St. Louis Rams. Since then, speculation about which team he would choose and negotiation points played out in the media, fueling a wild game speculation about where he would land with each morsel of information that found its way into the public discussion.
After years two strikes with up-and-coming coordinators, Scott Linehan and Steve Spagnuolo, the Rams sought the more experienced Fisher to help get the team on track. The Rams have not had a winning season since 2003. They haven't been to the playoffs since 2004.
Lots more details to come. Follow us on Twitter @TurfShowTimes to stay on top of all the action. Be sure to join our Facebook community too, we'll have lots for fans over there as well.
The question now is how Fisher fits into the organizational structure. In hiring Fisher, the Rams ceded significant control over the personnel side of things to him. He'll work with a relatively inexperienced GM, but the real question is how the three divisions within the organization - personnel, coaching and the financial side - will operate. In the past, Rams Park was the scene of some divisive turf wars. That improved some with the change to Billy Devaney and Steve Spagnuolo. However, the rookie head coach was given big say over the organization, even to the point of firing front office personnel that worked well beyond the on-field product.
It remains to be seen who Fisher will hire for his coaching staff, but it could include some very prominent, familiar names. Current New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has been mentioned as a possibility for his defensive coordinator. Williams was Fisher's defensive coordinator in Tennessee from 1997 through 2000. His contract with the Saints is up after they finish their playoff run.

I hope we can win a Super Bowl for Jeff now.

It's over.
Now let’s put the rest of the pieces together and get this ship turned around. Everyone jump on the bandwagon, Rams culture is about to change.

True
I went from liking Fischer to F him let him go to Miami and now “Man I LOVE Fischer” can’t wait for him to start LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ship?
This is St. Louis. We don’t have ships, we have Riverboats.

You may not like him, think he is elite or whatever...
But at least he is the 1st coach we’ve had who has WINNING EXPERIENCE.

Very excited bout this
jpcisco - January 13, 2012 via mobile
Next Month ; )
I’m actually at America’s Center today and it just struck me how this space is under utilized by the Rams. I have to think there is a way to improve the current situation instead of scrapping it for a new facility. Hopefully there are people able to think out of the box and get this lease issue ironed out. LA isn’t the answer.

OakCityRam - January 13, 2012

RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
He is according to Hogs Haven
Shanny is going to trade up for RG3 or Bradford.
OakCityRam - January 13, 2012
Yelp and thats official..
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
I've always thought it would be Snyder, not Cleveland, who we will wind up trading with before the draft.
I think we need to start living in the 7th pick world in future Mock drafts. Danny boy will come at us with a huge package that may include not just picks, but a player or two as well
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
Damnit doug
I swear if we don’t get a playmaking wr whether it be blackmon or not, I’m gonna go insane..
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
I think this off season will be really interesting if it involves Snyder
He’ll put his entire team on the table to get either RGIII or Luck if the Colts surprise everyone and go for RGIII
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
We need playmakers on the offense
Our defense will be fine with a few tweeks, but our offense is atrocious and needs a complete makeover, if they don’t get playmakers with or without fisher, we won’t win many games next season.
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
Exactly right
The only reason we lose is in the forth quarter because our offence cant stay on the field…which tires out our drfence way to much…when the rams beat the saints rams won the time of possesion battle…i bet they lost that battle in every other game
Valley Ram - January 13, 2012
I agree, but we need a great DT and a beast OLB in the worst way.
I think CB can be found in FA if it comes down to it, maybe a DT too? But a DT is what will improve the D instantly, and take some pressure of the Sam
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
The only way we can take pressure off
Sam is to get him some help on the line and playmakers, defense can’t do it all.
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
You're right! :-)
I think Fisher is the kind of guy that will attack one thing, finish it, and move to the next. It’s a coin flip right now which part of the team – O or D – he will decide needs the most attention first.
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
I swear if he doesnt see Offense
Needs the most attention, then he should be fired on spot..
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
Speaking purely as a TST writer: This off season is going to be filled with surprises
The entire staff here just got a needed shot in the arm, after having to write about the current Rams during the 2-14 season.
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
I'd say the void at OLB just got a lot more significant
The Rams don’t have a Steven Tulloch on the roster.
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
Sorry, Keith Bullock..
whoops
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
Hopefully
last summer was really good, we need to return to that level
Brick Top - January 13, 2012
How do you know he has a huge package.
Ramfan4life - January 13, 2012
Jabar gafney??
Plus a 1st round and 3 rd i would be happy to trade our #2 pick
Valley Ram - January 13, 2012
lol You have a dirty mind! 8-)
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
If the Redskins want Bradford their is obviously something wrong with him ; )
LOL.
Sggladden - January 13, 2012
Can you elaborate on this?
I hadn’t heard this.
Pekka for Predator Pontiff - January 13, 2012
Im pretty sure
It was just as serious a statement as the rams drafting RG3 for keeps
Valley Ram - January 13, 2012
I heard about it in here
Somebody wrote that fisher doesn’t believe that Sam is a franchise qb.
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
I don't care who he likes or doesn't like. I don't care who comes, goes or stays.
I just want my team to be a winner.
If that means Bradford goes, then he goes. I’m a Rams fan, not a Bradford fan.
Midasknight - January 13, 2012
i'll buy that for $1
DevsLaRams - January 13, 2012
I would be cool with either
If he leaves ill still watch whatever team he goes to.
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
I know that Fisher was dead set against drafting Vince Young in Nashville.
So I wouldn’t think he’s too keen on RGIII either. Not that they’re the exact same dude, but they’re similar. Bud Adams trumped Fisher so they took VY with the 3rd pick.
Oh well, we’ll see what happens. Thanks for the info RG.
Pekka for Predator Pontiff - January 13, 2012
Anytime
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
RG3 isn't a punk like VY though.
Or so it seems.
Midasknight - January 13, 2012
I like RGIII too, he's an interesting prospect.
And you’re right about the punk thing. But he may not be going after the athletic QB is all I’m saying.
Pekka for Predator Pontiff - January 13, 2012
welp i guess the waiting is over finally
diehardram87 - January 13, 2012
YES
Let’s get to work !!
ZamRam - January 13, 2012
I'm not upset with Mrs Fisher after all!
DCRamFan - January 13, 2012
I think the problem..
was to much media exposure. Maybe the guy just had a legit tough time choosing between franchises. Everything else was all people just guessing. Shefter “he’s leaning dolphins” Glazer “would be shocked if he didn’t choose the Rams in 48 hours” it was all from sources and stuff. Maybe Fishman was just sitting in his house deciding if he wanted to wear blue and gold or teal and orange? Who knows? I think what it came down to was the guy is a midwest type of dude and that what he went with.
miketrap3 - January 13, 2012

Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
fucking do this!
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
Fisher is one sneaky bastard...
he didnt want anything to do with us when we wanted him, then we got fed up and stopped caring and he decides to sign.. touche kind sir… touche.
Rando - January 13, 2012
I think
Its going to be more important Which Coordinators we get next. Im still 50/50 about fisher but if he can bring in some good people its going to make all the difference.
Valley Ram - January 13, 2012
Right
This has been the big selling point to me all along. The respect fisher has built up around the league will hopefully mean that he can pick and choose among assistants.
mcihaelT - January 13, 2012
we overstate his respect
but i agree, I hope he can lure someone exciting and creative, preferrably from the Green Bay or Saints staff to our offense and creates a potent passing offense that suits Sam’s game for the next 10 years.
No more ‘Field Goal Fisher’ in STL for this Rams fan.
Infemous - January 13, 2012
You mean like McDaniels did?
Oski Bear - January 13, 2012
Apparatly with Fish we pretty much have all that lined up.
This should put the Rams in great shape as we move into the off season.
We’d been hurting for time if we had to go through all the interviews of one of the coordinators and then additional time they would need to put together a staff.
Sggladden - January 13, 2012
Welcome, Jeff!
You weren’t my first choice, and I’m sure Stan is overpaying you, but whatever. You’re a Ram, and that makes you family. A family of awesome porn-stache power. Go kick some ass now, ok?
Seriously.
Beelzebubba - January 13, 2012
here's a little quote from Steven Jackson's facebook..
“Just getting off a flight. Is Coach Fisher our new HC?”
Rando - January 13, 2012
you know Jackson's gonna like his run first approach
DevsLaRams - January 13, 2012

So fisher and his boring offense means
No blackmon?i can’t see him picking a reciever
Ram_Redemption - January 13, 2012 via mobile
He picked Kenny Britt
He was there when they chose kenny britt in the first round
miketrap3 - January 13, 2012
My bad I meant top 5
Ram_Redemption - January 13, 2012 via mobile
As opposed the the exciting Josh McDaniels offense ; )
LOL
Sggladden - January 13, 2012
if cj2k and kenny britt
were boring offensive player… then i guess you may have something.
Rando - January 13, 2012
Perhaps Trent Richardson?
CFB_fan - January 13, 2012
Are we seriously concerned
with a potentially boring offense? Fisher just took over the St. Louis Rams, bro. This shouldn’t be new to you.
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
Lol we were boring cause we suck
Not cayse we were just boring
Ram_Redemption - January 13, 2012 via mobile
this
Fisher has the most archaic ‘notion’ of offense in the league.
He will run Sjax up the gut all day.
We might aswell not have a QB.
Infemous - January 13, 2012
I hope so.
That’s what should have been the plan this season.
I trust Fisher will do what should be done and do it right.
People tend to forget that the Titans had the 3rd ranked offense in 1999. I don’t care if it’s boring if it works.
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
No disrespect but this is the league of what have u done for me lately
So 99 was too far away to get giddy about. Jmo
Ram_Redemption - January 13, 2012 via mobile
this.
Lately Jeff Fisher has done nothing good and as such is not worth the money and power he’s been given.
Infemous - January 13, 2012
Then who should we have gotten?
It feels like you’d shit on whoever we picked up.
Midasknight - January 13, 2012
Don't go all jswirb on us Infemous
He’s not a bad choice, plus he should bring some great position coaches with him, which we need as much or more than a great HC
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
I think you mean trent richardson lol jk
As long as we are winning I dnt care how he calls plays.i was just speculating as to who he might want with or pick
Ram_Redemption - January 13, 2012 via mobile
Yelp..... awesome...
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
This is so freaking great.
About time we restore some faith in this team.
4 pillars are definitely out of the picture now
Option27 - January 13, 2012
I am very pleased with this move!
The Rams need experience and order along with experienced coordinators. Great job! We finally win one. Now what I wanna know is was this Denver Rob guy straight out of Kroenke’s PR department? He sure had JF’s back which was interesting. Anyway, time to move on a bring this organization back to respectability.
For those who don’t like the move I am not sure which direction you wanted to head but it would have had plenty of adversary’s.
RamTeaPartier - January 13, 2012
Two thumbs up!
Oski Bear - January 13, 2012
If we are able to get another
1rst rounder in a trade with our pick I think Still or Brockers are certain to be Rams!
RamTeaPartier - January 13, 2012
This is a terrible hire.
Absolutely, positively, terrible.
We have given our roster control to a person who has absolutely no track record for being a good drafter.
He has a history of neglecting offense and a completely archaic conservative approach to offense.
As I had to do with the McDaniels hire, I will suck it up and support him, but I am telling you now that this hire is a terrible one.
All I can pray is that he learns a thing or two from John Fox and can provide structural strength while allowing the Co-Ordinators to excel.
Infemous - January 13, 2012
I would imagine he’s learned a few things being on TV every week. It’s obvious the NFL is all about offense with the rule changes, I bet it won’t be as boring as the Titans.
Danrarbc - January 13, 2012
Issue was, was that even on TV he expressed conservative and oftentimes plain wrong opinions
I’m holding out hope but I’m not hopeful lol
Infemous - January 13, 2012
I said earlier i was 50/50 about this hire
I just hope that u are very wrong in this situation…cuz eveyone would be happy lol
Valley Ram - January 13, 2012
I'm with you entirely bro
I want to be proved wrong, I really really do, just like I did with McD… although we saw how McD worked out haha!
Anyway, I’m intrigued to see the press conference and see who he brings in and see why he picked us etc.
Infemous - January 13, 2012
Apparently
Miami and fisher couldnt agree on the structure of the organization as per adam schefter’s tweet.
Valley Ram - January 13, 2012
Damn Straight!!
Now who will be our offensive coordinator? Hopefully, Fisher doesn’t give a crap about the color of the carpeting in the locker room like previous head coaches.
Mister T - January 13, 2012
I'm just sayin
I can finally say that the rams are going to stay in St. Louis since Jeff Fisher is officallly the head coach of the rams. Yes, Alright.
stllcat7406 - January 13, 2012
Let's see who he brings in now...
QA-Ram - January 13, 2012 via mobile
Hopefully he doesnt neglect the offense..

Mister T - January 13, 2012
Best thing fisher wil do is bring winners
If we bring greg williams in thats a start.our guys need to be molded by guys they respect ..not just life likr spags. This is why fisher was a good hire
Ram_Redemption - January 13, 2012 via mobile
Apparently a ping pong game with Sam wins out over a helicopter ride.
CFB_fan - January 13, 2012
Good Deal
hopefully he can bring in some good coaches and players and get this thing back on track. Cant wait to see how much we paid him tho..,
stumpf32 - January 13, 2012

the wait is finally over.
Now let’s win some games…

Can’t wait to see who gets brought in for the rest of the coaching staff.
Scrapgirl933 - January 13, 2012
The sooner the Saints lose
The sooner we should know. Greg Williams as DC would be ideal.
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
but that would required the Saints losing to the 9ers and does that really have to happen? I can wait a week on a DC if the Saints win please. Then they can lose the NFC championship game.
Christy
Scrapgirl933 - January 13, 2012
Can't help but admire the way you think
dbcouver - January 13, 2012
I'm going to have so much fun talking shit when the 9ers lose
diehardram87 - January 13, 2012
I like the hire though I'm concerned about how it affects the team bottom line and the organization's power structure.
You guys thought Spags was awful when he removed all of the GSOT memorbilla from the walls. Fisher will have a bon-fire using all of the 1999 Rams SB artifacts he gets his hands on.
Da Rams! - January 13, 2012

There a good coaches in the NFC West. At least we now have a game day manager that is on par with the rest. I hope he hires a great OL coach and feels the need for a really experienced QB coach. Congrats Stan – you got your man.
2cents - January 13, 2012
Pooch punt
OakCityRam - January 13, 2012
Can we get Cortland Finnegan too?
OGC Reds - January 13, 2012
I think a ton of players will now look at STL as a team they'd like to play for with Fisher at the helm
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
You think he makes that much of an impact?
I’m hoping he can bring a few good players our way.
OGC Reds - January 13, 2012
Fisher brings more latitude in the players he would consider coaching, so the player pool will be bigger than what Spags would have accepted
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
Cortland Finnegan is #1 on my FA wishlist
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
I sure as hell hope they didn't give him full control
But if he’s the coach, I guess I’ll have to stand behind him for now.
Eric Nagel - January 13, 2012
Any rumors on coordinators/position coaches that Fisher might target?
mcihaelT - January 13, 2012
last paragraph
Eric Nagel - January 13, 2012
Sorry
I meant other than DC, as Williams has been speculated for quite a while. As has Chuck Cecil and Dowell Loggains.
mcihaelT - January 13, 2012
I don't see Williams leaving N.O. for Fisher. Also, the Saints D isn't all that good, so I don't know why everyone thinks he'd be the best choice?
I want him to entice Gray from Tennessee for DC. Too bad there is no way Chud leaves the Panthers for another OC gig
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
What kind of ramifications could there be
for plucking away a DC who’s under contract for another team? I’d like Gray too.
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
The Patriots didn't have to compensate us for McD, so I really don't know what it might cost to get Gray
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
Williams is respected around the league and is known as having a great defensive mind
Don’t just look at this year
OGC Reds - January 13, 2012
You're right of course. No one should be rated based on his players alone - except McD lol
I truly think we are about to see a ton of Tennessee personnel in Rams headquarters
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
Thank God he decided to keep Derinda! lol
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
I also just read that he may be thinking about Dave McGinnis as DC
mcihaelT - January 13, 2012
I like the coach having personnel control
He should have personnel control. Scouts and other personnel should report to him. I’ve always thought having a coach work with a GM making the player decisions was a flawed business model.
dbcouver - January 13, 2012 via mobile
I think it is too
This isn’t baseball.
blindmouse - January 13, 2012
I'm guessing the next hire will be Lake Dawson as GM
Somebody who Fisher knows and is comfortable working with.
mcihaelT - January 13, 2012
Yes
it’s hard to coach the way you want if someone else is drafting players for a different type of football team we shall see
Jas the Mace - January 13, 2012
I'm gonna start working on my mustache right now. First day of preseason I will have a Fishstache.
crashoveride01 - January 13, 2012
yo doug
what are the players again? I thought you were just gonna grab it from the thread, I’ll email you my roster
sergey606 - January 13, 2012
Cool, I left it open in case you wanted to adjust your FF roster before game time, but I need to have a post ready for the A.M. tomorrow
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
open where? link?
sergey606 - January 13, 2012
lol I left your choices open for change. No link
Douglas M - January 13, 2012
Awesome!
Lets see who we.get as coordinators an all that implies! Only thing Fisher asks of his coordinators is that they grow a stache as kick ass as his.
STlunatic89 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
The thing that trips me out is
I just read that the only reason he took Rams job is because he couldn’t get the power he wanted in Miami so they would’ve been his first choice
So basically were giving him power to do whatever, great…
RG31 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
Or
He fins wouldnt give him more power than he would get with the rams so he chose rams so he could at least have a hand in picking a guy he can work with( GM position)
Valley Ram - January 13, 2012
So what are we thinking on Lloyd?
5/95 chance Fisher gets him to stick around, or even makes an offer to him?
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
Corland Finnegan on 101espn right now, talking Fisher.
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
No thanks
You aren’t wanted Finnegan.
Take your stupid shit elsewhere.
Eric Nagel - January 13, 2012
Haha
He said he’d welcome the opportunity to come and play for the man who “gave (him) his chance” again.
Joe Mazzi - January 13, 2012
I'm sure he would
I just hope Fisher has the common sense to steer clear from that little bitch of a man.

D'Marco just called him out on his antics.
Said Jeff Fisher won’t put up with such things in St Louis. Hope you’re both right.

Lol
He’d be a good player if he wasn’t such an idiot. I lost all respect for him when he got in a fight with Andre Johnson

I think we are about to have lots of players we won't reall gravitate too

Don't be too quick to judge
Finnegan can be a hot head, but he can back it up with solid corner play. I don’t agree with how far he took the fight with AJ a couple years ago, but the guy has fire. He’s Richie Incognito without as many penalties and with IMO much more talent. This is a guy Spags would steer clear from (four pillars) that maybe this team has needed. Someone with passion, ability, and a maybe a little bit of insanity. All good qualities in a football player.
