Why haven't the St. Louis Rams interviewed former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley? Say what you want about Haley, and his occasional ranty behavior, but the man knows football.
His record as a head coach over 3 years is a vanilla 19 wins versus 26 losses but, if you look closer, I think you'll find a coach that has done a decent job building a good team that was decimated by injuries in 2011. What I like most about Haley is how he responded to the loss of key players during the year. Many teams would have given up after the Chiefs' early season debacles (they lost their first two games by a total score of 89 to 10), losing their top running back Jamaal Charles, safety Eric Berry and starting quarterback Matt Cassel. Haley coached a team that everyone basically wrote off after week #2 of the NFL season, and made them competitive down the stretch before being eliminated in week #16.
The downside of Haley: He is an emotionally driven coach ( a la Rex Ryan) that oft times overshadows his genuine football knowledge, and he appears to have trouble working with others at times (see Scott Pioli).
Whatever knock you may have with Todd Haley, no one can say he isn't a pure football guy that possesses an almost obsessive work ethic and a thorough knowledge of the game.

I know this is off the wall but what do you think about...
the Rams hiring a college head coach like Chip Kelly,Les Miles,Mark Richt (sp?), etc? I know the odds of it happening are slim to none but would much rather have a high profile college coach then Haley or an assistant coach.

By the way...
I think Haley would be a horrible Head Coach. Just my opinion, it would be a step back.
jpcisco - January 11, 2012
Could be, but he is a better choice than some the Rams are currently interviewing.
Plus, he would be a “out of the comfort zone” choice by the Rams, which may not be a bad thing given past choices.
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
I agree with you 100%
My whole reason for this post is based on my dismay that the Rams are only shopping the “accepted” list of candidates, and need to be open to every possibility.
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
Yea I think a high profile college coach would be a much better choice than 90% of the candidates already interviewed...
most college coaches would jump at the chance to coach a Pro team.

im glad there not listening to you for advice Haley sucks

Reguardless of How Haley Lost His Job...
I think he’s had his taste of head coaching and would rather have a coordinator job. They said he was close to going back to ARI, and not maybe NYJ. But he’s better off not as a head coach.
Boofer - January 11, 2012
* correction *
and now maybe NYJ
Boofer - January 11, 2012
Could be, I know he went through a small bit of hell with Pioli, so he may welcome a rest from being an HC
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
...Haley?
RamsFan28 - January 11, 2012
lol
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
No thank you.
Me no want.
RAMpage28 - January 11, 2012
He'd be a wild choice, but I think we'd get more out of our players with a guy like him as HC.
Whether it’s Haley or another of his type, we need to shake up the Status Quo, and remove the losing attitude of the Rams somehow.
Who would be your choice of a paradigm shifting HC?
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
Shake up the status Quo and remove the losing attitude of the rams by hiring a guy who was just fried from his HC job
and has a losing record as a head coach. Makes sense. Ususally some one doesn’t just go from being fired mid way through the season to getting a new head coaching job somewhere else.
RAMpage28 - January 11, 2012
Is that why Sherman is being mentioned for at least 3 HC positions? He was just fired from a COLLEGE team
It’s not about where they were, it’s about how much they know about the game.
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
Sherman as bad as he is has shown that he can have winning seasons in the NFL
Haley has not except the one year the chiefs went to the playoffs and I attributed that to Charlie Weis who was their OC at the time. The minute he left they went back to losing. Some coaches are good in college and suck in the NFL and vise versa.
RAMpage28 - January 11, 2012
If an NFL team wants to be stupid and hire Sherman then it's their problem.
RAMpage28 - January 11, 2012
Fisher is the man for that job
Rammon105 - January 11, 2012
The problem we have at the moment Doug, is that the Rams organisation and future is on hold until Fisher's made his choice...
If he chooses to come here, then the post of GM is next looked at. If he doesn’t then, by my recogning, the GM position will be filled first. I’m just not certain there are many proved (and available) ex-HCs out there, which is what the Rams need at this time.

True
The only thing I really like about Haley is his passion for the game. He’s a wild man! lol
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
and a dirty lookin one at that too!
dude always has beadhead, and scraggly looking all the time.
Mark Jaramillo - January 11, 2012
lol He is kind of grubby looking, isn't he?
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
Just say no to Haley
He did a terrible job with the Chefs (excluding that POS game against us in 2010).
Ski Dawg - January 11, 2012
Doesn't shake McDaniels hand...
Hes a friend of mine
DCRamFan - January 11, 2012
I'm not sure what to make of Haley.
On the one hand, his greatest season of success as an OC came when Kurt Warner was given the freedom to do a whole lot of playcalling himself, so I’m not sure how much of the credit Haley should really be given.
On the other hand, he was smart enough to recognize that releasing some control was a good idea under the circumstances, but still had the balls to yell at Warner when things didn’t go well. And their offensive gameplans in the postseason were things of beauty, including the well-designed trick plays that gave them a leg up on their NFC competition.
So really, I don’t know what to think.
Spielman - January 11, 2012
How about Hue Jackson?lol
diehardram87 - January 11, 2012
I wouldn't mind him as a possible OC.
RAMpage28 - January 11, 2012
I've had enough of this
I know it may not be the HC and his staff’s fault but knowing that our new coach was hampered by one of the same problems our old coach was doesn’t fill me with hope for the future.
LARams1968 - January 11, 2012
The difference is that Haley didn't fold, but kept putting a competitive team on the field every Sunday
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
Maybe so but that story is getting old
LARams1968 - January 11, 2012
Haley sucks period enough said
Rammon105 - January 11, 2012
waste of ink
Rammon105 - January 11, 2012
Meh
I know where you are coming from Doug…
but I think he would best fit as a coordinator for now.
Eric Nagel - January 11, 2012
He is a nut job and after a protracted period of time, the players realize they are playing for a nut job!
leadhead - January 11, 2012
Uhhh bullshit
If you say we should hire Haley as a head coach cuz he put together a talented team that was decimated by injuries then we should have just kept spags, fuck Haley
Hibachi40 - January 11, 2012 via mobile
I'd rather have
Doug Flutie
OakCityRam - January 12, 2012
HA! Where have you been lately? I haven't seen you around much and we're going into "Fiction Post" season? lol
