Misleading photo. We in no way take Justin Blackmon in this mock. Does anyone even read the caption? I had sex with your mother last night. Also, we don't take Justin Blackmon in this mock. Did I mention that? I did? Okay cool.
I'm going to be honest.
A lot of you are not going to agree with this mock. Some of you might not like the players. Some of you just enjoy disagreeing with me. Some of you may disagree with the the value of the trade, or who I have us taking in the first round. Some of you may disagree with the potential head-cases I take in rounds two and four. Some of you think we need to address certain positions higher than I addressed them.
We all have our different opinions. I would like to remind you all, however, that we can all agree on one thing. Skip Bayless is an asshole.
Hit the jump for the mock draft and the trade.

TRADE: The Rams trade the number two overall pick in 2012 to Washington for the Redskins' first, second, third, and fifth round picks in 2012 and the redskins' first round pick in 2013.
1 (from Redskins): David Decastro, OG, Stanford: Ohhhhhhhhhhhh you didn't see that one coming, did you people who only looked at the picture and didn't read the caption? I know some of you are saying "but Josh, a guard at number six overall is ridiculously high, and you suck". And I would have agreed with you, except the new rookie cap allows for teams to take players that they wouldn't normally feel comfortable taking because they don't have to pay a rookie at a less important position all-pro money. Oh and also, I don't suck and how dare you suggest that.
2: Mohammed Sanu, WR, Rutgers: Sanu has that number-receiver ability you all crave like Skip Bayless craves Tebow's private parts. Sanu has good size (6'2, 215) and he's pretty much the only reliable option on Rutgers' offense. Bradford would love this pick almost as much as Skip Bayless loves Tim Tebow.
2 (from Redskins): Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona State: Some people may disagree with this pick by saying that Burfict has the potential to be an even bigger douche than Skip Bayless, but I assure you, no one has that potential. Burfict has more potential than any other linebacker in this class, and I think that a top 10 talent is worth a shot in the second round. With Laurinaitis making sure he doesn't do anything stupid on or off the field, I think he'll be just fine. (I'm done with the Skip Bayless jokes by the way, I think that's enough- No wait, one more, Skip Bayless is a talentless douchebag whose only job is to shock people by saying stupid things on TV, and he has no soul. Okay, now I'm done.)
3: Casey Heyward, CB, Vanderbilt: Heyward is a playmaking corner, and the Rams desperately need playmakers in the secondary. He did a good job defending Alshon Jeffery, and he's shown the ability to at the very least be a reliable number two corner.
3 (from Redskins): Ka'waan Short, DT, Purdue: Short provides some much needed talent at DT to help free up Long and Quinn to rush from the outside. Short has shown flashes of brilliance (a three sack game against my Buckeyes), and would be the perfect fit for the 4-3 under tackle that we need.
4: Donte Paige-Moss, DE, UNC: Moss was considered a first round pick before the season, and then the UNC coaching staff put him behind sophomore Kareem Martin, and potential top-10 pick Quinton Coples. He has some character concerns, but I think at this point in the draft, it's worth the risk to add another first round talent to a defense that already oozes potential with the additions of Burfict, Heyward, and Short.
5 (from Redskins): Brett Roy, DT, Nevada: Another defensive lineman? Yes. Roy is undersized (280 pounds) but at the very least he's a disruptive tackle (9.5 sacks on the season). He should step in and be a valuable part of the DT rotation.
6: Chris Rainey, RB/WR/KR/PR, Florida: I'm choosing Rainey for two reasons. One is for his incredible ability to make a difference on special teams with blocked punts and returns, and the other is for his Sprolesish potential has a backup to Steven Jackson.
7: Grant Garner, C, Oklahoma State: Garner has done a phenomenal job in pass protection for Weeden this season, and while he has limited upside, he should be a solid backup and a good pass protector in the NFL. Being only 290 pounds, he could stand to gain some weight, but I don't think that will be a problem for him because all indications are that he has a good work ethic.
7 (from Browns): Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State: Moore is probably not going to end up being a starting caliber player. I do however, think he could make an excellent backup, and I at least think he's going to be better than AJ Feeley, so there you go.
I like this draft because it gives Bradford the best guard prospect to come along in quite awhile, and it also gives him two solid weapons to play with. The defensive line gets three players with a ton of pass rushing talent, and Laurinaits finally gets another linebacker to help take the pressure off of himself. The secondary gets a playmaking corner that should be able to capitalize on all of the hurried throws that opposing QB's will make while being rushed by our suddenly fearsome line. Hit me up in the comments with what ya'll think.

wow
I wonder if Mr. Van Bibber is proud of this post? How does junk like this make it onto the main page?

I'd burn my season tickets!
That is an absolutely terrible draft.

wait give me the season tickets!
Care to explain what you think is terrible?

Not a fan but at least you did a good job of explaining the picks.
papapegasus - January 11, 2012
I didn't expect too many people agree with the picks
but thank you
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
Onky thing I dont like
Is the second round wr, I’m tired of these wrs that won’t amount to nothing but a number two, we need playmakers, but nice job..
RG31 - January 11, 2012 via mobile
The thing about Sanu is
that I think if you put him on Okie state instead of Blackmon, he would put up numbers pretty similar to Blackmon. I think Sanu could absolutely be a number one receiver.
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
There is nothing about sanu
That I dnt like.you want play makers.sanu may be the top in this draft
Ram_Redemption - January 11, 2012 via mobile
Youre going a little too far with
That one, no way he’s top five playmaker in this draft. I get what you’re saying though.
RG31 - January 11, 2012 via mobile
I think the initial reaction by some will be to say there is no way we would get that in return for the #2
but I think you are right on. With only 2 top tier QBs in this pool, RG3 is going to be highly sought after. That is a pretty good guess for value, and it may end up being more. Good post. I’m sort of meh on the selections. And I think burfict will go in the first.
TransplantedRamsFan - January 11, 2012
thank you
I think Burfict slips to the second becuase I’ve been seeing a lot about him maybe even going to the third, and many teams will be worried about his character issues and how much his production tailed off this season.
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
Yes, but
I predict he will creep up. He will do damage control with his agent in interviews and blow teams away in the combine. he will rise to the first when all is said and done. Maybe top of the 2nd.
TransplantedRamsFan - January 11, 2012
I wouldn't mind Moore as a very late pick
But if that’s the next Rams draft, we are in big trouble
riotmute - January 11, 2012
How so?
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
On his twitter page Skip went on a streak where literally 26 out of 27 tweets in a row were about Tebow.
Remarkable how big of an asshole this guy is
turpinforpresident - January 11, 2012
I think at one point
he actually called Aaron Rodgers arrogant.
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
skip is a duechenugget.
no doubt about it.
anyways… burfict is an animal at linebacker and could easily be a great compliment to laurinaitis. if were lucky to land him in the 2nd then we have to pull the trigger. He is a playmaker, and we need to grab as many as we can…
StL314. - January 11, 2012
Why do people not like this draft??
I LOVE it. We will get a guard who is an absolute BEAST like Steve Hutchinson! And all the other picks are good. Short in the 3rd?? Hell yeah!! I’m just not sure if we would get that much in a trade and depend on what WRs are there in the 2nd, I might not like Sanu so much, but still GREAT JOB!!
Brick Top - January 11, 2012
I think this mock is bad ass
But im one of the few ppl that understand that wide receivers in this first half of the draft arent the only good ones. I hope we take jeff fuller in the third
Ram_Redemption - January 11, 2012 via mobile
I think thats the problem
People assume 1st round wide receiver = Calvin Johnson
Anything else is guaranteed #2 WR.
Receivers can perform like #1s if their skill set is taken advantage of and utilized properly.
TheRamsFan - January 11, 2012
Exactly nobody thinks about
Kenny britts of the league
Ram_Redemption - January 11, 2012 via mobile
+1
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
I like it but......
1. With Lloyd leaving, that puts us in a pickle next year at WR…….AGAIN!!! We really need to stop putting off getting a #1 by FA or the draft. Not that I don’t like trading for more picks, cause I do. But we have a legit #1 WR staring at us and we should take him. Or trade down again (unpredictable and not the point) and take a Floyd or Jeffrey.
2. Do you really think Moore is gonna fall to the 7th round? Cause I love love love that pick. Dude is a complete stud and he reminds me of Brees….not that he’ll be Brees, but he’s just a winner and awesome.
Again, I wouldn’t complain, but I want a better WR than Sanu.
Pekka for Predator Pontiff - January 11, 2012
yeah I think Moore will go in the seventh
he just doesn’t have the physical abilities. I’m not sold on Blackmon being this mythical nymber one receiver either, that’s why I would prefer to trade down lol
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
It's impossible to predict.
I remember the sick feeling I had when we signed SAM for $86M. It’s a HUGE gamble to take a skill guy that high. If you fail it can cripple your franchise. Or in the case of the Rams, further cripple.
But I think he’s awesome, and he needs to be in a Ram uniform. The only trade scenario I like is to trade no lower than the fourth spot. That way we can get either Blackmon or Kalil. Lower than that and the talent level starts to drop, although DeCastro is another great consolation prize.
Pekka for Predator Pontiff - January 11, 2012
Draft....
Jonathan Martin from Standford or Barrett Jones from Alabama would be a great draft pick for next season!
Ricksome - January 11, 2012
Jones is going back to 'bama :(
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
Absolutely Pathetic
If the Rams pulled a trade off of this caliber and drafted the players you suggested,we would be set back another 5 yrs.If we do trade the pick, our new coach/GM will make sure we get Blackmon or Khalil. They will make sure we draft players to build around Sam,PLAYMAKERS trust me,Remember free agency will come before the draft this year. The Rams have money to spend,so we will see how that plays out before we draft a guard with our first round pick. Are you kidding me??
long time ram fan - January 11, 2012
I sense too much homerism...
How you assume we will trade the pick and get blackmon or Khalil is very optomistic to say the least.
Given the Rams past drafts. I would be more than happy to take this one. Our defense improves and our offense if nothing else gets an improvement at guard, with likely an improvement at the WR position.
TheRamsFan - January 11, 2012
As I was reading this I was thinking "i'd be pissed if this was our draft"
Glad to see there are others who agree. First, what a fucking reach with the first pick a guard? C’mon man. Second we need a top tier reciever before anything or we are looking at another year of Brandon Gibson. There’s alot more wrong with this but I’m in my phone and my hand hurts
Hibachi40 - January 11, 2012 via mobile
It's not a reach if its top talent
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
how does drafting someone compared to Steve Hutchinson, and someone compared to Ray Lewis
set the team back five years? I’m prettys sure the majority of these players can be considered playmakers. Also, the rams will not have a lot of money to spend in free agency.
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
No thanks
There are some immediate needs you did not address:
1) No OT. Don’t like going into 2012 with Smith as our RT.
2) We need 2 OLBs not one. I like Chamberlain’s hustle, but the kid is not a starting OLB.
3) We could use 2 high pick DTs this year.
I’m still sold on Blackmon as our pick at #2, #4, or #6. Depending on who we trade with. We can either have a cadillac (Blackmon) or a pontiac (Sanu). Rather be legit and have the caddy.
No more QBs. Should be solid with Bradford and Clemens.
81 Witness - January 11, 2012
so at OT
we would skip kalil (the Porsche of OT’s) and stick with jason smith (the Hugo of OT’s). got it lol
Ram_Redemption - January 11, 2012
We don't need any more Cadillacs
Spags is still patting the last one on the head
King Sam Rules! - January 11, 2012 via mobile
I'm not sold on Blackmon at all
I think Dahl is the RT of the future.
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
redskins' first round pick in 2013.
Wont fix this train wreck overnight,we could get some good players this year, and 2 1st round picks next year would be huge.
RAMIFICATION - January 11, 2012
I like it
I think we might be taking Decastro a little high, but the fact that it is not another mock that has us reaching for Blackmon was a refreshing start.
Paige-Moss might be available even later after he blasted UNC, and Brett Roy sounds a lot like Gary Gibson.
Otherwise, I’d love this if we can sort OT out some other way (Saffold at LT and Dahl at RT for 2010?).
Will not be defeated - January 11, 2012
damn fat fingers
Saffold at LT and Dahl at RT for 2012
Will not be defeated - January 11, 2012

I definitely agree with the Saffold and Dahl thing. Roy is a much better pass rusher than Gibson btw
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
i like it
maybe change a dt instead of wr in round one
G unit Rams - January 11, 2012
Can we start by hiring a new HC?
Do you think we can get permission to talk to KSU’s Frank Martin? I love that guy? What the hell is he doing coaching basketball? He needs to head right to the NFL! Who cares if he doesn’t know a thing about X’s and O’s. And if we took your mock and drafted Moss and Burfict we would need Frank Martin to keep those whack jobs in line.
Strangely, I like pieces of your mock but don’t like many of your mid-picks. I have been hyping DeCastro since the beginning of the season so I can’t argue that selection wherever he is drafted. I watched more Stanford games than any other college and my opinion of DeCastro only improved over time. Will be an All-Pro guard in the NFL for many years. I also like Sanu at #2 but then I think you fizzle out a bit. If you could switch out Burfict, Moss, Roy and Heyward for Brandon Boykin, Chris Polk, Levy Adcock and Trumaine Johnson then I would be onboard………………..
BTW, didn’t the douche Moss tear an ACL in his Bowl game? Although I could possibly be sold on Burfict, there is no way I would ever consider Moss. I too like Short from Purdue and would definately go for Moore as Bradford’s backup.
RamTeaPartier - January 11, 2012
thanks for the opinions
I don’t like Polk and Adcock as much as other people do though
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
Draft
Draft RG3, we can use two good QB’s.
JW Coop - January 11, 2012
So buckeyefan -
Here is a new name to ponder! A new mock draft out has DT Brockers from LSU taken in the Top 10 if he declares. That is a name that just has not been mentioned at all in mock drafts. He did get his name called quite a bit in the Bama game. Where do you have him slotted?
RamTeaPartier - January 11, 2012
Brockers would be great
he’s definitely a top 20 pick, but I doubt he declares this year
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
Bleh.
DeCastro is good—right where he should go. Sanu is Blackmon without the wow factor. I like Demps from Fla. better than Rainey. Don’t like Burfict at all at any selection. Not so much that he’s a bad player or guy—we just don’t have enough reputable LB vets. (other than JLo) to make him a great professional. We’d end up releasing him and he’d be great for the Ravens or Bears—just not our guy. I think our DTs should be more the “immovable object” because we have good athletes at DE. This mock makes me feel the same way as our last draft. Bleh.

Great Post! rec'd - I don't like many of the picks, but you raised the best point I've seen in any Mock to date...
… I think we will see quite a few positions drafted higher because of the new CBA rookie salary structure. It could also meant their are teams other than RGIII dreaming teams that could want to move up to fill a vital need?
Now… It’s time to admit Skip Bayless is actually your alter ego, and that cheap beer causes you to go all Jekyll & Hyde… :-)

thanks for the rec!
if Skip Bayless was truly my alter ego, someone should just put me down lol
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
I actually think that is the most realistic trade scenario...
I think as fans we would love to see an instant return on our draft pick via a trade with any team holding multiple 1st round picks THIS year. It just doesn’t seem realistic. Shurmer really has a lot of time invested in McCoy and feels he is a very good compliment to the offensive scheme. They have been trying like heck to put other pieces of the puzzle around him (Greg Little was drafted last year to give Colt a big target). It seems that they may not be so inclined to give up on McCoy so quickly unless those concussion issues are more like Bobby Crosby.
Seeing De Castro and Martin in person at the Stanford vs Oregon game, I can tell you those two were incredibly impressive. They constantly won the line of scrimmage and created huge running lanes. In the second half, Oregon had their D-line take their hands out of the ground and started with a running head start at the line to build momentum at the point of contact…still did very little.
I’d still like to see LB Hightower grabbed in the 2nd round if available over any WR.
CaliRamMan - January 11, 2012
I think Cleveland has their sight set on Trent Richardson, so I see them trading down if they can, not up, with their highest pick
Greg Little has been their version of Pettis this season. If they are going to make a run at any player, it will be Blackmon. I can also see the Browns going for O with the majority of their picks.
Douglas M - January 11, 2012
I would LOVE to have Hightower
I just think he’s a sure-fire firstrounder after the Teo dropped out of the draft, and his play in the NC game
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
Yea, I think so as well.
I just keep seeing him fall into the 2nd in mocks.
CaliRamMan - January 11, 2012
Don't know that Was will give up quite that much, but...
… if it happens, I like your draft overall. If I had it my way, however, there would be a few slight wrinkles, although the flavor would be similar:
1) Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa (Like DeCastro, but LT is more pressing need)
2) Mohamed Sanu (I, like you, think Sanu can be every bit as good as Blackmon)
2) Lavonte David, OLB, Nebraska
3) Casey Heyward
3) Kawaan Short
4) Doug Martin, RB, Boise St (Don’t know that he’ll fall this far)
5) Ryan Miller, OG, Colorado
6) Mychal Kendricks, ILB, Cal (Can play OLB)
7) Grant Garner
7) Chris Rainey (I see Rainey falling to 7th)
You didn’t mention FAs, which obviously affects the draft. I wish the team had the money ($10 million, I think) to sign some big-time FAs, but it doesn’t look likely, unless they cut some guys that won’t come with a big cap hit. For that reason, I like Robert Meachem as a cheap-ish FA WR who has the deep speed to stretch the field and open up the middle for the Rams’ plethora of possession receivers.
mcihaelT - January 11, 2012
I wouldn't bet on us making any big splashes in FA
but I could certainly see us signing someone like Meachem
Josh Wehrle - January 11, 2012
Right
For all the talk of Carl Nicks, Vincent Jackson, et al, I just don’t see the Rams having the money. Maybe in 2013, but for all the talk of how much money the team will have, Laurinaitis, Long, Bartell and Fletcher will all be FAs.
mcihaelT - January 11, 2012
Douglas M -
I too think Richardson is Cleveland’s pick if they don’t trade up for RG3.
Greg Little = Pettis??? I wish Pettis had 61 catches this past season!
RamTeaPartier - January 11, 2012
lol The thing about Greg Little is he dropped soooo many passes...
He was one of the biggest FF busts this year. Every FF guru said to pick him up at one point or another and he flopped every week but one. He needs a good WR coach, or he’ll never live up to his draft status
Douglas M - January 12, 2012
mcihealT -
I like Reiff as well. Can’t go wrong with Reiff or DeCastro. Although I am a huge fan of DeCastro, I think your scenario may work out better for the Rams if we are able to grab one of the Badgers “Big Uglies” later in the draft. I am not sure if Kevin Zeitler is soaring up draft boards or not but he clearly isn’t a big dropoff from DeCastro. I don’t think Doug Martin makes it to the 4th round but there is a chance Kawaan Short might. So……………
1) Reiff
2) Sanu
2) Boykin
3) Zeitler
3) T. Lewis or David if he lasts.
4) Short
5) B. Pierce
6) Garner
7) Moore
7) Rainey
This draft would turn our boat around quickly!
RamTeaPartier - January 11, 2012
Like it
We are mostly on the same page. Boykin would be a great, but I think he’ll be around in the 3rd. Switch David and Boykin, and that would be a solid draft. And while I like Martin better, Pierce would be a nice add in the 5th.
mcihaelT - January 11, 2012
Yep - Hightower or Upshaw
would be awesome. The only chance we will get either of those guys is if we orchestrate a deal with Cleveland and get their pick at #22.
RamTeaPartier - January 11, 2012
The Trade Compensation
Is excellent. Heyward and Short in the 3rd rounds are solid. Gamer and Moore would be great as 7th round selections.
With the potential draft order being:
1. IND
2.WASH
3. MINN
4. CLE
5. TAMPA BAY
6.ST.LOUIS
Blackmon could still be on the board. The question for me is: Will The Bucs or Browns select Blackmon? INDY will get Luck, Wash selects RGIII, Minn gets Kalil. I think Tampa will take Claiborne. This leaves Cleveland; who may decide to take Trent Richardson and wait ubtil the second round for a QB. This leaves Blackmon for St.Louis.
In the second rounds; it would be great to get Kendall Wright if he were still on board, however that may be unlikely. Chase Minnefield,Courtney Upshaw, or Lamar Miller could be possibilities. Burfict with the other second round selection is an interesting pick. I like it. However I unfortunately do not believe that The Rams at this point, are ready to manage a personality like Burfict. I was probably the only Rams fan sorry to see Ritchie Incognito go. Burfict has that same edge and propensity for violent outburst. The Ravens, Steelers, and Packers are some of the few teams that may be able to manage a player like Burfict. The Rams IMO, are not that team.
Moss has a lot of potential; he can be a tremendous player if he chooses to be. I do not see that type of desire. Roy is too small for a 4-3 DT. He is a better fit as an 3-4 DE. IMO, The Rams need to get bigger at DT. Quite a few DT’s will be available in the later rounds or as UDFA’s: Slyvester Williams, Mister Cobble, and Josh Chapman may be available to pair with Kawann Short. I do think that getting a pair of DT’s is a solid move.
A RB like Doug Martin would have more value than Rainey IMO. Martin is bigger and has displayed more durability. Martin could last until the third or fourth rounds. With the 6th pick; Janzen Jackson is a Physical FS with speed and ballhawking ability.
Overall I think your draft is solid. You took risk and were imaginative with your player selection. Rec*

How bout these free agents:
Vincent Jackson WR ( 6-5 238 ),
Jason Jones DT ( 6-5 280 ),
Nick Hardwick OC ( 6-4 305 ).
Draft with these:
RD1- David DeCastro-OG ( 6-5 312 )
RD2-Mike Adams-OT ( 6-6 320 )
RD2-Zach Brown-OLB ( 6-2 230 )
RD3-Marvin McNutt-WR ( 6-4 215 )
RD3-Bernard Pierce-RB ( 6-0 218 )
RD4-Marcus Forston-DT ( 6-3 300 )
RD6-Jeff Demps-RB/KR/PR ( 5-7 190 )
