Jeff Fisher is still thinking about his coaching options, but both teams, the Miami Dolphins and the St. Louis Rams, are proceeding with backup plans. Bernie Miklasz reported on his 101 ESPN radio show today that the Rams have requested permission to interview Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden.
Jay Gruden is this year's hottest assistant coach, after helping the Bengals get to the playoffs with rookie quarterback Andy Dalton at the helm. Dalton and the team's offense were also helped greatly by the presence of rookie wide receiver A.J. Green, the fourth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. This was Gruden's first year on the job as a coordinator. His last job in the NFL was in Tampa Bay as an offensive assistant from 2002-2008, working for his brother, Jon Gruden, then the head coach in Tampa Bay.
Gruden worked in the Arena League and the UFL between those jobs.
Gruden's credentials would certainly seem to benefit quarterback Sam Bradford. Gruden's work with Dalton speaks for itself. He also runs a version of the West Coast Offense, which the Rams used in Bradford's rookie season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are said to be interested in Gruden, but he said on Monday that he has yet to hear from them.
Because Gruden is currently a coordinator, the Bengals cannot refuse teams who would like to interview him for a head coaching job.
Jay Gruden is the brother of Jon, who would have been one of the top coaching candidates on the market had he not opted to stay in the booth for Monday Night Football.

Why don't we interview everyone possible, even manbearpig
You know fish will make his announcement midway through the interview, ending it promptly
sergey606 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
I think if they get permission
Jay Gruden is the front runner after fisher, could br a lil bias though..
RG31 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
I agree
If the Rams can’t get a good established head coach, Jay Gruden is certainly number one on my wish list.
offensive acumen and his coaching experience in the afl and ufl are very appealing.

dammit!
i wish freakin fisher would hurry his ass up already and quit leaving everyone in limbo! make your decision! if he isnt going to take the rams gig, then let them know already so they can move on (like there doing already i know).
i really dont see what the hang up is, either you want to go to a team with an established qb in bradford, the opportunity to pick YOUR OWN gm, the #2 pick in the draft, AND $40 mil of cap space the yr after….or you want the frakin sunshine, babes, and more money. if this is the case, wanting to go to miami to get paid, to get a tan, then to be honest, this dude isnt really serious about the job. let us know already fisher or kick fuckin rocks!! im tired of waiting!

Gruden is sooo young, but he's very good too.
I hope the FO is putting a Coaching staff together, who really want to work together.
And Not just throwing names at the wall to see which ones stick.
We need a cohesive staff in place, for the future.
look closer - January 10, 2012
WTF? We go from an incredibly seasoned head coach as the front runner,
to 3 first year coordinators as the other three possibilities?
David5264 - January 10, 2012
It's part of Stan Kronke's relocation plan LOL
Hopefuly there just going through the motions of evaluating the young coaching talent out there.
Sggladden - January 10, 2012
Out of everyone they've interviewed, I like him the best
Think he’d be the best fit.
But besides Fisher, this sure goes against the “experienced head coach” mantra we heard.
Eric Nagel - January 10, 2012
This is getting old.
FAST.
Joe Mazzi - January 10, 2012 via mobile
This is sure better than eveyone talking about the next coming of the all almighty.
crazy mike - January 10, 2012
Hell, why don't we interview Lane Kiffin's son?
I hear that he watches a lot of game tape with Dad and Grandpappy Monte.
Mister T - January 10, 2012
SportsCenter
Joe Mazzi - January 10, 2012
lol
Eric Nagel - January 10, 2012
What sense can it possibly make
to put every last colored egg in the same basket, shut down your draft plans for the next 2 years at the expense of Carson Palmer then completely blow up your front office?
Joe Mazzi - January 10, 2012
THAAGH RAAAAIDAHHHHSS
Joe Mazzi - January 10, 2012
Short answer?
Al Davis is truly undead.
FailureDrill - January 10, 2012 via Android app
Maybe the Raiders will hire Tom Cable
I hear that he throws a good punch.
Mister T - January 10, 2012
This is that... "interview the HOT coordinator" stuff I was talking about.
…and I don’t think I like it.
Boofer - January 10, 2012
Nothing to do with the rams but.
is anybody else getting tired of the media talking about this tebow thing. i’am. i don’t know about you i guess the the media doesn’t know that their other players on that team. last time i looked their wasn’t 1 player on the field at any given time. give other players their just do.
crazy mike - January 10, 2012
I'm going to laugh my ass off if they beat NE
I don’t see any way they can, but I said that for the Steelers game too…
Eric Nagel - January 10, 2012
That is so 10 weeks ago.
catch up to speed.
Da Rookie - January 10, 2012
Yea most of everybody is tired of it
But ESPN won’t shut the hell up, can’t wait for the pats to beat them so it can stop…. Until next season….. Fuck!
RG31 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
That's because ESPN sucks
Eric Nagel - January 10, 2012
They have been doing this for years
It’s part of the dumbing down of America. They try to keep everything relevant to a 2nd grade level.
I will say this about Tebow, he is an intriguing story due to the style of offense Denver is running with him… they have had success with an offense that’s not suppose to work in the NFL. If he ever becomes proficient at passing he could turn things upside down. But until then it’s kind of premature to be giving him as much attention as they are as far as merit… I’m sure in terms of ratings he’s a godsend to the networks.
Sggladden - January 10, 2012
WTF? Raiders sack Jackson after one season? And it's not even Al Davis's fault this time...
JoolzMF - January 10, 2012
Heard Jackson was out of control and he blamed the players for some losses.
RAMpage28 - January 10, 2012
Let the 'gutting' begin, amigo!
I hope they start with Darren McFadden or Rolando McClain
DCRamFan - January 10, 2012
Are we going to interview Chud?
Douglas M - January 10, 2012
You don't interview the Chud
The Chud interviews you.
sergey606 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
The Chud chooses.
RAMpage28 - January 10, 2012
Good news
RG3 is going pro
DCRamFan - January 10, 2012
Time to hear all the trade offers
RAMpage28 - January 10, 2012
If it's not the Browns, then I don't know what I'm willing to accept
I read an article this morning that said the Dolphins would like to trade up to get RG3, but they’ve got the 8th or 9th, depending on a coin toss. At 8 or 9 I’m not sure who we’d take, or who’d be the best available
DCRamFan - January 10, 2012
Skins might trade up for him too.
RAMpage28 - January 10, 2012
True
I’d have to check what they’ve got this year….I know they gave up a ton for McNabb, but they may actually have their picks back this year
DCRamFan - January 10, 2012
Trading that far down
The rams better get a ton
sergey606 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
they do have a 39th pick this year (#7 in the 2nd)
Who would you suggest we take at 6 in that scenario?
DCRamFan - January 10, 2012
How about Trent Richardson?
Maybe this is too high for him but Kalil and Blackmon will be off the board by #6.
Mister T - January 10, 2012
personally, I think thats a bit high for a RB
but I don’t run an NFL organization, so what the hell do I know? Specifically, for the Rams, RB is way down my list of priorities
DCRamFan - January 10, 2012
way too high
I’d fly to st. Louis with a pitchfork..
RG31 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Claiborne?
RAMpage28 - January 10, 2012
Martin IMO
RG31 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Another possibility
probably a better choice.
RAMpage28 - January 10, 2012
who's the most beastly DT this year?
DCRamFan - January 10, 2012
Devon Still
Imo- trade down if Cleveland ends up wanting RG3, take Blackmon at 4, then get Upshaw at 22, and Jerel Worthy. Or… Trade down further, take Floyd, try and get Upshaw and Worthy. Either idea, sign a T in free agency
King Sam Rules! - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Sounds good to me
Upshaw could be a beast and rather us get a T in FA if we don’t get Martin or Kalil..
RG31 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Blackmon or Floyd and Upshaw are IMO the ones we should get
Covers our two BIGGEST needs
King Sam Rules! - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Manny vs. Floyd finally gonna happen?
RG31 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Yes.
Maybe.
RAMpage28 - January 10, 2012
I hope so
Getting tired of hearing about ESPN talk about that to.
RG31 - January 10, 2012 via mobile
fuck no RG!
bottom line…i just saw what mayweather just said on espn…he said “i posponed my jail time, and pushed it back from may 5th, i already have the venue, and date, lets get it on already and give everybody what they all want to see..quit being a punk!” OUCH! BUT! heres the deal, its not manny that sdoesnt want to fight floyd, its freakin bob arum, paquiao’s promoter.
hes bringing up more excuses than ive ever seen! he just dont like floyd, because floyd dumped his 102 yr old ass 8 yrs ago, and he stil cant get over it! this dude would rather fight jaun manuel marquez for the 4TH time rg, than give floyd the chance, and thats straight up BULLSHIT!! arums the one making manny look like the pussy here.
Mark Jaramillo - January 10, 2012
Noooooooooo.....
No more coordinators w/o head coaching experience. I’d rather see a college head coach with previous NFL experience take over the job before another inexperience coordinator is offered this job. No more… please!
