2012 NFL Draft Order: Rams Pick Second, Non-Playoff Order (Mostly) Set

The top three spots in the draft were solidified in the first slate of games in Week 17. That included the St. Louis Rams, who have the second pick in the draft after a Colts loss. The Indianapolis Colts won the Andrew Luck sweepstakes, losing their final game of the season to end up with the first overall pick.

The outcome of the game tonight between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys will change the order a little too.

One of the big questions I have is whether or not the Rams can trade the second overall pick to a quarterback needy team longing for Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, assuming he enters the draft. The Vikings would love for that to happen so that they can grab Matt Kalil, but teams could also see the Vikings pick at number three as a potential target to trade up for this year.

The 2012 NFL Draft order looks like this:

Star-divide

1. Indianapolis Colts, 2-14
2. St. Louis Rams, 2-14
3. Minnesota Vikings, 3-13
4. Cleveland Browns, 4-12
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 4-12
6. Washington Redskins, 5-11
7. Jacksonville Jaguars, 5-11
8. Carolina Panthers, 6-10
9. Miami Dolphins, 6-10
10. Buffalo Bills, 6-10
11. Seattle Seahawks, 7-9*
12. Kansas City Chiefs, 7-9*
13. Philadelphia Eagles, 8-8
14. New York Jets, 8-8
15. Arizona Cardinals, 8-8
16. San Diego Chargers, 8-8
17. Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland Raiders, 8-8)
18. Chicago Bears, 8-8
19. Dallas Cowboys/New York Giants loser, 8-8
20. Tennessee Titans, 9-7

*Will be determined by coin flip

The outcome of tonight's game between the Giants and the Cowboys will also switch the order around some. If New York wins, Dallas will pick 14th and Philadelphia will have the 15th pick. If Dallas wins, Philadelphia will have the 14th pick and the Giants will pick in the 18th spot.

Lots more on the draft order at SB Nation NFL.

We're going to have a mock draft on SBNation.com tomorrow, so stay tuned for that.

Trade down with Fins for RG3?
Unless they really like Matt Moore.
From what I read Moore has done enough (won last 6 of 9) to warrant a "Starting" spot next yr

But new coach new QB I know I know but with only 2 real game changing QB’s available I think they go the “Protection” route and grab an OT this year maybe DL. RB looked good for them and they have decent wideouts to help take the pressure off and the way Moore has been playing I think they take this draft to help him out next yr. And if he doesn’t work out Barkley is still up for grabs is Bray and other one hit wonders that come up every yr. So I hope the Browns choose to trade up.

Looks like NY is well on it's way to winning.
I love it when the Cowboys lose

and even more when they lose badly

I couldn't care less about who wins this sunday night game
Is it just me or is

Doug Free overrated.

So many 8-8 teams!

Too bad we didn’t see that last year :/

Rams are so lucky

We dam trade dowm as far as 14th and still get reiff or martin or even blackmon. Awesome.
Light at the end of the tunnel

Well

Besides the losing but I’m used to that

If we coukd trade down to 14

And still get Blackmon I’d be one happy person..

Honestly

At fourteen I would walk to new york myself to announce blackmon haha.long shot but very possible.floyd is perfect tgere if reiff and martin are gone

Flpyd would be great to

He has downfield ability and he will battle for the ball in the air. I think hes the best case senario at that spot.

Kendall Wright is another WR I wouldn't mind getting

no matter if we pick early, mid, or late 1st round there is going to be a decent WR option

Either learn how to spell or use spell check and if you think Blackmon is still gonna be there at the 14th pick your'e also a dreamer.
i think cleveland will wanna trade up for rg3 shurmer has already made comments on the kid!
hopefully we can get Thad as a throw in
Both of cleveland first rounders and seconds

Would help so much this year

Will we alternate the first and second pick with the Colts in later rounds

since we have the same record?

We did that with the second/third pick back in 2009 with KC.

Does anyone else

Look at robinson and feel that as soon as we cut dx, he will do the exact same?

I was a Mizzou fan, so I saw DX catch literally everything

don’t know what happened to his hands, but maybe he can get them back. Kinda doubt it, but I’d like to see what DX does next preseason.

I just liked dx when he came in last year

Needs a coach to tap into his potentiel. Who woulda thought that out ofall rams receivers the one we cut before preseason would be the best

i think he just needs repetitions

short preseason + his injury limits the amount he can practice. I think hands are something you need to constantly work on to stay sharp, and I’m not sure if DX will ever be able to do that.

you can work in hands (like julio) but you gotta have the heart and committment

if dx has the committment, maybe his health lasts and he becomes the player we think he can be. Health is a big if tho.even though this is as healthy as he’s been in some time

I hope he stays, I doubt other teams have a place for him with his injury troubles.

I don’t think he will ever play that many downs, but maybe he could be an interesting weapon on long passing downs.

What I wouldn't give to have Victor Cruz play for the rams
Love that draft order

3,4,6,9 – all could mortgage to get #2 pick

Exactly

Vikings are best case scenario. Then we stil get kalil

Why would the Vikings trade to get a QB?

They seem set with Ponder. I can see them going for Kalil, Claiborne, or Blackmon

I dnt think they believe much jn ponder
Why do you think that?

They played him most of the year and he did ok. Just needs more weapons for him

Cause IMHO

He had been out played by webb every chance webb got. Gotta be some doubt in minny

imagine how crazy things could get if the Colts actually pick Griffin III over Luck
NOT gonna happen!

ill be honest…i wasnt at all impressed with RG3 this weekend.

My Mock Draft

We trade back to the browns for both picks in 1st round, falcons 2nd and next years 1st 4th and 6th

1st round- 4th overall morris claiborne Cb LSU:
Has been a shutdown machine, BPA in my opinion

1st round-21st overall Dont’a HighTower OLB BAMA: in the tackle box machine, great blitzer and is a force.

2nd round- 34th overall Alshon Jeffrey WR South Carolina: unproductive season drops Jeffrey to second, we get this much needed weapon for Bradford

2nd round- 53rd overall Chris Polk RB Washington: change of pace and future Running back.

3rd round-66th overall Dontari Poe DT Memphis: non stop noted and we need to plug up the middle.

4th Round- 98th overall Ben Habern Center OU: we need a center badly, Habern has had injuries…great pass blocker though….NEEDS A COACH!!!!, to help in run blocking.

6th Round- 162nd overall Will Blackwell OG LSU: great gaurd, great run blocker, okay pass blocker, but he can get COACHED up.

7th round- 194th overall Bryan Hendricks OLB Wyoming: another OLB for some special team purposes, he had 100 tackles this season with 2 forced fumbled and other awesome stats, my sleeper for future starter.

I just rebuilt the rams with 1 trade, HIRE ME KREONKE!!!!!! (696)-969-6969

Oh and some veterans on free agency, no major ones.

If Kalil makes it to 4th pick him over Claiborne
dat

Won’t happen, browns take Blackmon and vikings take kalil

I don't see Cleveland trading all that just to get Blackmon

I see them only making this trade if they decide McCoy isn’t the answer and go after Griffen. And I can see Vikings going for Blackmon to give Ponder more weapons

no, they give mccoy another chance...first year in that system
And that's why I don't see that trade

Blackmon will be there if we trade with Washington or Miami, because they will take Griffen and Vikings will take Kalil

If that is the case then the Browns must have hired Billy D to be their GM because that trade makes no sense.

no we definitely need more offense than that.

No need to draft a change of pace back in the 2nd round, Bradford will still get killed, and I doubt Jeffrey will drop that much because of unproductivity. That’s not what the scouts look at, and I get the feeling the combine will boost his stock again. We need a guaranteed contributor to the offense, and I don’t see one in this group.

whose better...wright or jeffery???
Hitting BPA, OLB, WR makes tons of sense

dunno if Jefferey is going to fall that far though.

then if jeffery isnt available we take wright from baylor

But some mock drafts show him in the second….I love my 21st pick so much

wright might not be there either, but you know what mocks this early are too hard to know anyways

I hope you are right, because your top 3 guys would do a lot for the team

whats good about where we are is, the top second is technacily (excuse my spelling) is the bottom 1st

I think he drops.

Really? We draft a 260lb ILB and call him OLB and hope he can produce? Not the right pick for the team IMO.
If I call you repeatedly will you call the cops?
thats made up number...i dont care

I’m not dumb

What about OT?

What about a C that has no injury history so we can count on him playing most of the season? See Hoom’ or DX if you have any doubts about drafting a player who can’t stay healthy. Pass on Jeffrey too, if you’re gonna get a WR, might as well make Blackmon your #1. Also, while I’m at it, isn’t Hightower an ILB? He’s like 260lbs so how come you draft an ILB and ask him to play outside? Why not Zach Brown at OLB?

Random moment

I’m currently playing dead space 2 and there is a TST in here. It’s just that it happens to be some sort of public transit system.

My mock right now

1. Trade back with Cleveland, get Martin
1. Floyd
2. Best DT
2. Best OLB
3. G
4. Scat back

dont'a hightower!!!!!!!!!
chicken!!!!!!!
Dont'a Hightower is a better prospect than Floyd and so he would be best available
Disagree

Especially considering our needs, Floyd would make a better impact, but if he drops to the second I could see us picking him with our first second round pick.

Alshon will already do us that favor
Highly doubt he drops that far..
i think he does
well there are a decent amount of elite WRs in the draft

Blackmon, Jefferey, Floyd, and Wright. One of those 4 might get pushed out of the 1st.

Wouldnt call Wright Elite..
Optimus Prime does
Dont'a or Floyd depends on what you think needs more improving

32nd ranked Rush D or 32nd ranked PPG

Defense wins Divisions
At least a few guys on offense are coming back from injuries and we drafted 2 WRs last year

that’s not good but as far as OLB goes, we have crap like Brady Poppinga.

yes, if we dont resign Lloyd.....

Then I’ll change my mind….

Poppinga sucks same with Leber.
that was what I was trying to say, he's my second least favorite player on the team

behind (of course) Justin King

Justin King has... "potential" At being a whipping boy.
Defense kept us in game, offense lost it for us

Offense no doubt..

We are ranked 8th against the pass!

Then again that’s only because we are so bad against the run….

Exactly

And with our best three cbs back, our defense should be fine with a few upgrades, our offense sucks and needs the most attention..

Any chance Hightower (smith HA! police academy) Drops to the 2nd round

4-3 OLB’s usually aren’t picked that high.

Defense is need, plus i said alshon will drop to second

Or atleast one of the Recievers do

Yea but in the reality probably wont happen

and we can’t just can’t on luck.

yeah we can, why not

I rather be lucky then good…its a risk I would be willing to take

Yea and risk not getting a bonafide 1

I’m good…

do you like fishsticks?
ummm? why yes i do! xD
What are you a gay fish?
do you like putting fishsticks in your mouth?
Yea, im not gay...
I bet we could pull that fishsticks joke on Doug

He lives under a fuckin rock.

Haha well with his men women you wouldnt be far off..
there probably won't be that many picks between our second 1st round pick and our first 2nd round pick

so the risk isn’t that high.

I like Floyd, but I don’t think he’ll even be there when you want to take him.

Well we will just have to see..
alshon in second
Not gonna happen..
It is
Everybody has a dream..
Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream

And it happened, Obama had a nightmare, and it happened…..Dreams come true.

I was actually going to copy and paste the "I have a dream" speech

But it looked long and took up a lot of space.

So as not to waste it

I am going to paste it on the bottom.

Not getting the Obama part but I get the jist..
It looks big on the bottom too....
Obama. is. a. horrible. president.
Disagree but dont feel like arguing..
me too
Sounds good..
Mmmm.... Yes... Indeed....
D:
Turn that D: Upside do... Um... Sideways

:D

Well I will argue, if you think Obama is a bad President and would vote for one those protect the wealthy idiots, then I would say you don't have enough sense to pick anything , including draft picks. Read something besides sports you idiot.
I agree but wasnt going to take it that far xD
Love this mock

Rather have reiff tho but you covered all needs. Make a fan post?

Hmm nice idea
With 2 1sts, 2 2nds,2 3rds..I like

Reiff and floyd
hightower And dt
Lewis and dt
Lamichael

Two dts?

And I would be down with this..

Yea two young high motor fat boys

Wnt See anybody run through that!

Yea, cant argue that
No way the rams could fuck up a trade down in this draft

…right?

From my limited time here

And the constant bitching of many, I think they can…

But our luck is changing..no more billy and spags!

Forreal if we could get aj for gm and norv as oc..that would put us on the map

Like the road map?
As long as that road is...

Success street. Zing

Boom! That shit just got responded to!
Eh

Not believing it til it happens..

Dream I kno
The "I have a dream speech" In it's entrity.

WAIT WAIT WAIT! I already tried this…

You gotta put more emphasis on the eeeeaaam part

If your gonna quote the king (not justin)

Justin King speech in its entrity.

I’m sorry. Wait I’m making millions to be a shitty CB! I’m not sorry! BITCHES!

we said the same thing when they had shaw/zygmunt kicking rocks outta st. louis too!
I dont like lamichael

Pass and get an interior lineman in the 4th

Just as a change of pace back plus a kick/punt returner

A la reggie bush

bush is thicker and taller

Besides, he is injury prone….

Darren Sproles?
ohhh

i see now….He needs to add weight or he dies with one DT or Linebacker hit

Not asking james to be barry sanders lol

Just catch some screens and return some kicks

Ok sproles

Perfect comparison

yeah

More weight needs to be added

im on phone

Someone copy and past and do it for me….don’t take credit for what isnt yours!!!!

Thanks

Sorry too lazy....
pretty please
Fine....
gracias
That's fine I just posted that shit for you.
thanks

:D

Aj smith for gm .. Norv turner for OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR

Quote me

quoted
could you imagine if we pulled that off
I'd be like BLAM! FIRE AJ Smith!
I would cry deeply
Not fans? Lol
I like Norv

AJ in the other hand…eh ..eh….not so much

Same here.
if you look at the free agents we got coming up

He would probably ditch em’

Draft.....

What what I’ve read so far the Rams are very high on Kalil from USC as their cornerstone Left tackle to protect Bradford…. But so are the Vikings. So it seems that if the Rams do trade down to a team that is begging for RG3 the Rams then will lose out on Kalil to the Vikings. So this just may be the worse case scenario for the Rams right now, Stuck at number 2 if they really want Kalil. The Vikings then will have the best shot at trading down for a boat-load of additional draft picks for a team needing a QB.

I think it’s time the Rams trade Steven Jackson for draft picks. He’s going on 30 and we all know the history of backs turning 30. Not much left in the tank. Trade Jackson while he still has value. Then draft a RB in the third round. RBs aren’t as valuable as they once were since their carries are limited in today’s NFL. Teams need two now to share the load.

Sadly, I feel Jason Smith is a bust. Time to say g’bye to him. So an offensive line with Kalil and Saffold as young studs looking promising.
Rams should go back to the West Coast offense since Bradford seemed to thrive in that. Draft a fast WR in the 2nd round. Alshon Jeffery from South Carolina should be a target. But he most likely will be gone in the first round.

Gonna be an interesting off-season for the Rams. New HC and GM. Probably a new Offensive Coordinator as well.

that's what happens...

when you draft a converted TE and make him your cornerstone LT; we’re not even having this conversation if they pick the right guy the first time. ughhh. grrrr.

and Shurmur fucks us over one last time
