The top two spots in the 2012 NFL Draft order have now been decided. The Indianapolis Colts lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 19-13. That loss gives the Colts the top pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The St. Louis Rams will pick second.
Both the Colts and the Rams, who got blown out by the 49ers in their season finale, finish the season with a 2-14 record. Strength of schedule is the tie breaker in that situation, and the Colts get the top pick because of an easier schedule this season.
Most assume that the Colts will draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. They will have some decisions to make regarding incumbent quarterback Peyton Manning, who missed the season with a neck injury.
The second pick could still carry some trade value for the Rams. Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is expected to declare for the draft. If he does, teams could be willing to trade up to the second spot to pick him.

unless we somehow win right here.. oh boy
stlcardinals1522 - January 1, 2012
What the? Rams game isn’t over. Rams came alive!!
nj_rams_fan - January 1, 2012
Any chance of keeping McDaniels?
zachmann21 - January 1, 2012
WHY ?
howie43 - January 1, 2012
brandon lloyd
A full offseason.
zachmann21 - January 1, 2012
I hope not
ChrisL951 - January 1, 2012
So do we take Kalil or move down and take Floyd?
King Sam Rules! - January 1, 2012 via mobile
if our new GM doesn't make some sort of trade we should just fire him
TheBirds - January 1, 2012
Kalil is pretty special
I want to see what RG3 is worth before I make a trade
King Sam Rules! - January 1, 2012 via mobile
I think RG3 is going to be the star of the combine much like Julio Jones was this year
TheBirds - January 1, 2012
Give me a number of picks and what kind they are
Cause Kalil is a very good prospect at a position we desperately need.
King Sam Rules! - January 1, 2012 via mobile
I'd take Martin in the top 10 if we find a partner & probably be just as happy.
He did a great job keeping Luck upright and made some nice holes for the running game. He lacks a little blocking footwork, but if we had good coaches it’s very coachable for him to overcome.
RamsFan1979 - January 1, 2012
Ok, Spags shaking all the players hands
Why does that just scream “I know I’m gone” to me?
King Sam Rules! - January 1, 2012 via mobile
The rams did not get blown out
holtfan - January 1, 2012
The sad thing:
Is that that makes this seem like a win to some fans.
King Sam Rules! - January 1, 2012 via mobile
It means nobody really gave up this last game to me. ThaT means a lot to some of us, yes.
RamsFan1979 - January 1, 2012
What did Jackson injure?
holtfan - January 1, 2012
Let's hope either Kalil is worth the 2nd pick
or the Colts take Luck… either way it should be good for us
Will not be defeated - January 1, 2012
Julio Jones showing his worth
Glad I started him this week..
RG31 - January 1, 2012
Matt Flynn
over 400 yards and 6 Tds, does this show that any QB could do what Rodgers did with those weapons?
RG31 - January 1, 2012
They can do it, just not as well
Flynn will still get payed big money in the off season by some poor saps
King Sam Rules! - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Haha, Redskins? xD
RG31 - January 1, 2012
i don't think the QB market is going to be that crazy
only a handful of teams like the Seahawks, Brown, and Skins are in dire need of a a QB
TheBirds - January 1, 2012
The Fins & Jags could upgrade.
Though Gabbert was drafted last year, he’s been less than productive this season. Maybe the new owner & HC want someone else on the team. Just a thought I’m throwin’ out there.
RamsFan1979 - January 1, 2012
Matt Flynn is GOOD
Joe Mazzi - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Orton might keep Tebow out of the playoffs
kinda poetic
TheBirds - January 1, 2012
I hope he does, sick of hearing about Tebow
ChrisL951 - January 1, 2012
I think Tebows an interesting story or the guy without talent who still manages to win, and I don't watch ESPN so I don't get oversaturated w/ him
but I’m a bigger fan of Orton, the guy who always does well but never gets any respect.
TheBirds - January 1, 2012
We suck so bad...
….we can’t even suck the worst.
I’m very interested to see what that #2 pick will bring. I think it’s almost as good as the #1: Colts have to take Luck, so they won’t trade, and that will be one QB down in the draft. That will put some more heat on the teams that need a QB.
I’d also shop Sam around, sorry. Might as well just start over 100%. I don’t think there’s any way to get the same picks for him, but you still might be better in the long run w/o that salary for 5 (?) more years. I know the cap hit would be awful next year, but the lower salary of the new rookies + the cap space in ’13 might make it acceptable.
There’s a LOT of things to consider over the next few months. Good luck, new Rams front office.
Beelzebubba - January 1, 2012
I'm tired of arguing it
Might as well get him away from this ass team, even though I still don’t see it happening, Bradford to Miami!
RG31 - January 1, 2012
... least we didn't suck for Luck
Indy could have beaten the Jags today if they really wanted to. Obviously a win wasn’t something that their organization wanted today… for obvious reasons.
Da Rams! - January 1, 2012
thank god your not GM
Cuz you have a bad plan that makes no sense
RAMSALLTHEWAY - January 1, 2012 via mobile
True, but...
I guess what I mean is, I’m certainly listening to see what I’d get for anyone on this team. Bradford included. Only guys I keep for sure: JL, Long, SJax and …. no one. I’m not saying I give guys away for nothing, but if I get a good offer that helps the team, I take it unhesitatingly.
C’mon, think about Belicheat and his approach: almost everyone has their price. Hell, 2years or so ago he said he’d ship off Brady for the right package. And I believe that he would.
If there is an offer for Sam and it helps make the Rams better quicker, you cannot blink.
That is all.
Beelzebubba - January 1, 2012
id just assumed that the reason Luck was going to be worth a bounty in trade was...
because he was a very special player
and not just because a team wants whatever QB was available.
jealousblues - January 1, 2012
Someone will make an offer for our 2nd round pick,
And the FO will need to be ready with a solid gameplan, and a scematic for who we need, and how we can stay in the early rounds to get them.
look closer - January 1, 2012
As one Redskins fan said
“Please St. Louis PLEAZZZZZZZ be stupid enough, and trade Bradford to (my team) The Redskins !” excusing his grammar of course xD
RG31 - January 1, 2012
Early prediction
Colts take Luck, Rams trade down, take O-lineman
3k - January 1, 2012
Martin?
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
could be
depends on stock change between now and April
3k - January 1, 2012
Im thinking either him
Or trade down to mid first and get Floyd.
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
We must get a tackle as top priority
trade back up for floyd or alshon
Ram_Redemption - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Of Lloyd stays then yes
But of not I beg to differ.
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
i really like floyd tho
My favorite reciever in the draft. Of lloyd goes we need to make a vincent jackson our top priority and draft a guy like fuller in the second. I just cant stand to see sam or any qb hit 112 times in a season like the rams this year. Thats ridiculous
Ram_Redemption - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Thats also true
If we don’t trade back Kalil has to be our pick.
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Or
We slander kalil’s name dan marino style and get em second round haha
Ram_Redemption - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Haha sounds good
What do we say, he has a long lost son? Did it with a hookers? Didn’t pay for his gas? xD
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Think big rg
He was paying d ends not to sack the qb! Haha
Ram_Redemption - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Oh shit,
He was playing defensive coordinators to tell his dline not play well?
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Yea dude
Paid whatever d end he was facing to turm the motor down a bit
Ram_Redemption - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Rumor started haha
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
That would be my selection if we were still in the top 10.
AZ will take him in a heart beat if available. He won’t get past them IMO; they have Levi Brown who plays like Barron.
RamsFan1979 - January 1, 2012
me too
Mine too
dbcouver - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Is there any chance the Colts take RGIII instead of Luck? Wouldn't it increase our #2 value?
Douglas M - January 1, 2012
I expect RGIII to have a real impressive combine, but I don't think the Colts are the kind of team to put much stock in that
Luck #1
TheBirds - January 1, 2012
you answered your own question
If Luck is the better prospect, why roll the dice on someone with an elite ceiling? The smart play for the Colts is to take your franchise QB and build.
3k - January 1, 2012
I hope our new GM makes some sort of trade.
I’m not entirely sold on Kalil yet. Idk why. I hope we trade down and get some more picks.
Starkey - January 1, 2012
The hatred for the Rams organization is shining today
Rams got blown out. Rams players hate Spags. I have been a long time reader but the articles are terrible today.
The players played very hard for their head coach and players don’t do that if they hate him.
MyACLisBrittle - January 1, 2012
no the players don't hate Spags, and that's a reason to keep him
but we might have won the game if Spags or anyone on the sideline had prevented that fake fg from resulting in a TD by calling a timeout. I just want an intelligent head coach, I don’t care about the emotional part of the job.
TheBirds - January 1, 2012
Agreed
The players do like Spags and they believe in him. I think that’s one reason why to keep him. Another is not other HC could have come in with these injuries etc and done any better, just imo
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
IF Spags stays, then are either you or Birds believe Dev goes instead?
Even if McD stays, he’ll be gone in another year. What do we do about an OC then? I say cut ties with him as well and hire someone else and run a WC offense.
RamsFan1979 - January 1, 2012
I say they cut Devany
And as for the OC I’m form right now, on one hand Sam going to yet another offense (even if it is back to the WC) is pretty dangerous and I honestly still wanna see what this team can do with a full offseason under their belts with this offense. On the other hand Sam thrived in the WC and if we got somebody that wasn’t so conservative with it, then I’d be happy. Look at the packers, if this team could do that is be more than satisfied.
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
I think the players like Spags (assuming you are correct)...
because he doesn’t demand excellence. He lets them do whatever and doesn’t challenge them to improve.
victorian - January 1, 2012
Yea thats speculation and opinion
They pike him because they believe in him. Saying anything else is just speculation and holds little to no water.
RG31 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
Washington will deal
I’d settle for the 7th (correct?) overall pick for their 1st and 2nd and 1st next year.
81 Witness - January 1, 2012
we might be able to squeeze a few more picks out of them
considering after Griffin and Luck any team w/o a QB will be SOL.
TheBirds - January 1, 2012
I'd 'settle', but as Bird says I'd try for a couple more picks next year. At least their 3rd in 2013.
RamsFan1979 - January 1, 2012
Add their 3rd rounders for this year and next year
ChrisL951 - January 1, 2012
Luck
Good. This means all this drafting Luck nonsense is over.
CGSuddeath - January 1, 2012
Bwahahahahahaha
Oh no sir it is not. Some of us don’t use reality as a standard for discussion.
dbcouver - January 1, 2012 via mobile
trade up ;-)
