Restricted free agent CB Kevin Dockery is visiting the St. Louis Rams, according to this report from Pro Football Talk. Adam Schefter reports the same thing.
Dockery plays Spagnuolo's style of physical, man coverage well. He's been mostly a nickel corner with the Giants, including the two years Spags spent there as defensive coordinator. This could be a good add for the Rams, upgrading their nickel spot between a healthy Bradley Fletcher and Ron Bartell, and making a decent replacement should one of those guys have to miss some time.
This continues the Rams theme of upgrading their depth via free agency, a smart course, if rather unsexy.
Dockery was not offered a RFA tender by the Giants.

You're kidding me?
This guys been in the league for four years and he can’t afford a suitcase or a decent duffle bag?

Garbage bag, Nice Jacket, Walking papers after 4 years in the NFL... Priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a good depth pick up to go with 1.Suh and 2.Tebow.

I agree!
When I saw the picture I had a coaching vision……..handing him a suitcase………..

you can take the man out of the ghetto
but if you can get his luggage on the plane and the plane goes down, that luggage may be the only luggage to survive the fall.

Whats the matter? Was he a former teammate of Tatum Bell?

Supposing he can play as you say VR
I have no problem with that signing. It’s a good pickup to help the defense. A good OLB and some Mid round defensive lineman and they can go all out for offense in the draft…
Eric Nagel - March 18, 2010
Supposing of course, we sign him.
Eric Nagel - March 18, 2010
exactly.
my hope would be that they don’t sign him with the intent of making him a starter.
he is an upgrade over most the replacement CBs that trotted through here last season, no?
Ryan Van Bibber - March 18, 2010
If by replacement CB's you mean
King Justin and the Quincinator, then yes!
Eric Nagel - March 18, 2010
We need CB depth
Without having to give up a draft pick as compensation, it’s like getting a free draft pick. At least I have CB depth on our needs list. I’d take him for back-up money.

I like this move a lot
Habte E - March 18, 2010
i sorta like the move also, at least the guy was good enough for Spags in NY, and he can’t be worse then what we are used to, can he?
peteyweestro - March 18, 2010
One Question
Who is the dipshit to snap a photo of a guy getting laid off LMAO… oh wait… tehnically he’s not gone yet… but still, what a freakin’ pic LOL
VTramsFan - March 18, 2010
I was about
to ask why we were thinking about signing the homeless guy in that photo. He looks like he sleeps on a burned out couch left in an alley, and begs for car wash tokens of Vandeventer.
mooseknuckles41 - March 19, 2010
I figure the pic was taken when players were cleaning out their lockers.
Wasn’t there one of Bulger (and he’s still on the roster)?
Tackle Box - March 19, 2010
All kidding aside...
…if the Rams can sign the fiesty Dockery, I agree that he will be a good pickup and lessen out need to draft help in the secondary. In one of one my 2009 football magazines I looked under the comments for Dockery and he is described as “the best athlete on the team as the tough-coverage No. 3 cornerback.” Sounds like the type of grit that we need to add to this team.
