Rams on Sims' list

The Rams are one of four teams being considered by free agent OT Barry Sims. The other three are the 49ers, Ravens and the Patriots.

According to the Hashmarks post linked above, Sims established a set of criteria for signing with a new team, namely a chance to start and a chance to play in the post season, along with the right deal.

With the Rams, a starting job depends on how improved Alex Barron is. Linehan and the Rams brass has said several times that they intend to push Barron with healthy competition for his starting job, and we assumed that 3rd round draft pick John Greco would do the pushing. An experienced guy like Sims - he's 33 - would make that competition even stiffer.

Whether he starts or not, quality o-line depth is always welcome, like money, you can never have enough.

the missing...

the missing comparison between the Rams and the Al Saunders Chiefs is the dominant offensive line.
If we can improve our Oline through depth or competition, we should be up there offensively.
I’m all for signing Sims, but I don’t know if playoffs or a starting job is something we can promise.

joy kill

I hate to be a joy kill, but Sims can’t assume that the Rams will make the playoffs.

Obviously, there’s an opportunity for him to compete with Barron, a good one at that. In truth, the Rams would be better served to have Sims push Barron and Barron finally live up to his promise since he’s younger.

truly

only the pats can promise going to the playoffs, but they can’t promise a starting position.

Define "a chance to start"

Does he mean he is the starter, or he want a shot and would be fine being a 2nd stringer? Seems like whenever some says they want a “chance to be a starter” it means they actually think they’re better than what everyone else thinks they are and would settle for nothing other than actually starting.

sounds like

he wants to start

Right

My point exactly. So my question is…is he going to be happy if he gets beat out by Alex Barron? Is he then going to sulk and bitch about his playing time? Frankly, I don’t know much about the dude. But, it sounds like he wants to start and he’s being “Politically Correct” by saying he simply wants a “chance” to start.

Offensive line needs to be a point of emphasis with the Rams based on how they run their offense.
