Brian Leonard done

After getting just two touches through five games and some work on special teams, the Rams shut down Brian Leonard for the season for more shoulder surgery.

I certainly wish the kid the best and a speedy recovery, but it's a stark reminder of just why the Rams have depth issues. Leonard, as we've discussed before, was a second round pick that the Rams could used to address other, more pressing needs than running back, or full back. Other players available for instance include, Miami starting center Samson Satele or the hero from last night's MNF game, cornerback Eric Wright. Both players would have bulked the depth at positions where the Rams desperately need quality help.

As you can see, his stats on the year leave something to be desired. Last season, Leonard played in all 16 games starting in 7. He picked up 303 yards on 86 carries and caught 30 passes for 183 yards. He has yet to score a TD in the NFL.

Water under the bridge though...this year's draft was a significant improvement over previous drafts and, hopefully, the first sign of better things to come for the franchise.

I didn't vote because

For me, as you discussed Van, the Brian Leonard pick isn’t about whether he’s a bust or not; it’s about a wasted pick. Drafting at HB/FB with Steven Jackson; maybe they were concerned about being able to resign SJ, but if that’s true, is Brian Leonard a suitable replacement?
